I was gifted a Bluestreak for Christmas of 1974. Finally being able to lever 8 pumps into her was quite the milestone for me. Once my cheek got very nastily pinched between the charging lever and the barrel. I put many thousands of rounds through her. She would outshoot and overpower everything else air rifle lovers had. Once I could get her up to 8 pumps, I tended to stay with 8 pumps and that’s how i wore her out/but that’s what re-build kits are for

I purchased a mid 60's Blue Streak at an auction. The metal parts were covered with some sort of dried glue . The wood was a light color, almost like ash. I cleaned the wood with 50/50 lacquer thinner and linseed oil. I increasrd the linseed oil to lacquer thinner ratio every several cleanings. It rejuvenated the walnut. The metal parts i cleaned with WD-40 . It looked almost new. It also had a Williams peep sight. My brother has my dad's which was bought new in '66. Both are fine shooting rifles.

I have a pristine model C blue streak with the Williams peep sight installed that is dated to December 1972 according to the serial #. The book "know your Sheridan" is the most helpful resource for a Sheridan owner.

Sir, this was an excellent review of this classic air rifle; thank you. I still have my first air rifle ever, a 1974 Sheridan Blue Streak that my Dad got me for Christmas back then. I tried scoping it, but was never happy with that. My rifle did not come tapped for the peep sight; but for the whopping sum of $12.95 (USD back in 1975) the factory in Racine WI sent me a Williams peep sight, and my Dad got our machinist neighbor to drill and tap the rifle for it. The peep sight still sits on it to this day, and it is an excellent addition to this fine arm. It is much easier to pump this rifle with the peep sight on it than it was with a scope on it; it also balances better. I did notice that the POI changed in windage with varying the pumps; hence, I always shot it at 6 pumps. This was my squirrel hunting rifle, and it had plenty of power for that at 6 pumps. Here are some velocity figures for you from my recent testing: with Sheridan pellets (avg 15.5 g), 6 pumps = 570 fps (11.17 fpe); with RSB (13.73 g) 6 pumps = 618 fps (11.63 fpe). At full power with Sheridan pellets, 8 pumps = 645 fps (14.3 fpe); with RSB pellets, 8 pumps = 689 fps (14.46 fpe). Since our UK friends got by with about 11 fpe (in order to stay safely under their 12 fpe limit), I figured 6 pumps would do well, and it did so for many years. I no longer hunt; I'm a plinker at heart; and I still like to plink with this gun. I still use 6 pumps all the time, partly from tradition, to remind me of days gone by, and mostly because it's sighted in very well at 15 yards with RSBs at 6 pumps. Accuracy wise, from a bench, I can always hit the bottom of 7/8" diameter plastic bottles at 15 yards. At 25 yards, I can usually hit them. With my 65-year-old eyes, I am happy with that level of accuracy. I don't shoot this rifle a lot, but I do make a point to shoot it, and to keep in lubricated; it's a family heirloom, and I want it to be in perfect shape when I pass it on to one of my nephews or grandkids; I will give it to the one who loves and respects it the most. Thanks again for the great review! Blessings to you, Dave

I got a Blue streak for Christmas in 1977. Your right, pumping the gun did help develop my upper body :-) Most of my friends had Crossman 760's so I was looked on as having the heavy artillery of the neighborhood. With 6 pumps using the standard Sheridan pellets it would punch a hole in a galvanized trash can at about 20ft.

I have the rocker safety Model C in the Silver streak. Manufactured in 1984. Long story short, I sent to Master Air rifle smith, Tim McMurray in CA, USA and had him "Steroid" the valve upgrade. I refinished the stock and added a long relief scope, more powerful and accurate than any Sheridan , Crossman, Benji ever made. The pellets available on line are amazing as I have them all. If I could post a photo I would.

My Sheridan Blue Streak was made in 1967. I still have about half a box of the original Cylinder pellets. I have tried more modern 5mm pellets and they simply are not as accurate. I still squirrel hunt with mine from time to time and it still passes through out to about 40 yards. I bought another Rifle about 1995 because I wanted a new one too. Although at 58 years old now, Pumping them is more difficult.

But years ago people already knew that the 20 caliber was a good size and also those pallets in the Yellow Boxes which were the standard pellet worked just beautifully

I inherited my Uncles Blue Streak back in 2021. He had purchased it in the mid to late 60’s. We both used it to take small game in our back yard until late ‘79. Long since lost the open sight but we did purchase the scope mount but found it useless since it interfered with pumping the rifle. I would love to find a Willams peep sight for it but I do not know if it's still available. This rifle was a tack driver up to 50 yards. I purchased about 3 packs of pellets (cleaned the inventory) from a sport store that was clearing out everything when they went belly up. (Somewhere I still have an older empty ammo can from the 60’s which were quite common until the 80’s. As well as the original owners manual.) Paid about .75¢ a pack back about 28 years ago. What I would love to find are some bullet molds for wasp waist pellets to work in the rifle. Would be well worth the money since I already do some of my own casting for pistol rounds and would not have to search the market place for the ammo. Six pumps at 500+ fps? Seems a little weak. Probably weak especially the small one on the bolt. Might be recommended to get a new seal kit for that rifle. Seals will deteriorate with age and sometimes lack of use or the use of the wrong lubricating oil. For higher power we have the new HPA rifles that are capable of taking down medium game. They are available in .30 up to .50 cal. Not only does one need to spend big money on the rifle but it’s a good idea to invest in a high pressure pump used to fill scuba tanks since they are the primary source of air for the rifles. Good video! Does anyone have a source of decent seal kits for this rifle?

I have one of the older Sheridan. The only thing I didn’t like was the rocker safety. I have put one set of seals in it in the last 50 years. When I’m through shooting I pump it once to put a little pressure so they stay pliable. Mine was the blue streak, they also made a silver streak. I also have a .177 and a .22 Benjamin, both around 50 years old. The Sheridan is by far my favorite. I bought a scope mount for my Sheridan but took it off, prefer open sights. All three of my air rifles have taken birds, rabbits and even a few raccoons.

I sure miss my Silver Streak. I made a brass patch box on the stock with a piece of foam to hold the pellets and a custom scope mount with a Lobo pistol scope. I have the exact same gun here in the UK, I bought it probably about 25 years ago for very little something like £20 and it was old then but it was more accurate than many guns of the time I bought it, the one I have is bronze but somebody I think removed the paint or whatever the covering was and polished it up, I love it for an old gun and know if needed I could walk out the door and guarantee I can come back with lunch but plinking in the garden at a target it never fails and at times can put a pellet on top of another. The only thing that ever failed was the leather cup on the plunger to pump it up, I was sitting in the garden at a table investigating what was wrong and found this leather cup had dried out and perished with age, I expected to find a small thread and nut on the end that held the leather but it didn't and thought I'll have a look on line about it but I wanted to use it that day and looking around and being in the garden the first thing that caught my eye was the Hozelock garden hose connector, I cut the smaller male end off with the O ring on and it snapped into the metal cup and fitted perfect in the air tube I used it that day thinking I'll send away for the right thing later but about 10 years later it is still in there and working

I wonder how this rifle performs after firing over 1,000 pellets, when the thread in the brass barrel is completely worn out and the barrel does not hold the caliber. If it weren't for the use of brass on the barrel, I would have bought it a long time ago, but in Poland, where I come from and where I live, it is an exotic air gun and it is not easy to buy it. Both regeneration and replacement of the barrel are impossible. The pump itself is one of the best, most durable and strongest pumping systems ever designed.

My Sheridan of late 60s still works today w the original components, including the seals which none of the parts were replaced. I was 17yo hi-SKOooler (GymNauuuuseum) at the time. I've chosen this brand vs. Crossman and any of the barrel break down type. At the time, my experience w Daisy BB guns which used spring (n little bit of air) r only good for like 100 - 200 shots. Then their strike spring gets weak and the BB Babies only spurts out despite a few lubricant squirted thru their muzzle. So, no bbl breaking type fur mir! Besides, that type was a bit mo expensive than the Daisy junk. Even datto Daisy's expensive realistic looking Winchester lever copy was junk. It just spits BBs after a few 100 shots. And, i've observed a nice Crossman bolt rifle w CO2 powered rifle of my nxt door neighbor's, paid by his Dad and i've tried it. Liked datto Gas gun. It had datto nice loud SwooshBang sound. Butto i've noticed the gas cartridge is only gd fur 20 to maybe 30 shots, then it sputters. And, i kant afford to pay doze expensive cartridges. So NO go w the Crossman's Gaz gun either! I then chkd out Crossman's pump gun. Nice. I liked datto corncob wooden forearm. U can vary the power w it. I then looked around n found Sheridan. I liked the hand pump which too, i can vary power for a short range tgt shooting, for mid range small sparrow, to far range wabbit shoots. And, on top of dattto, i've looked at the bullet design. Unlike the midget .177, it's bigger diam (caliber) of .20"diam. Unlike .177 n .22 Cal pellet design, the Sheridan's .20Cal had that (datto) unique pointed nose (streamlined) w solid nose and had a concave tail to help the air push it out, and thin ring around the tail to seal the pellet thru the grooved rifling. No, i wasn't gifted this expensive Sheridan by our Papa. We boyz had to earn the Mooney ourselves as we were dirt/dusty poor w bare feet, torn shirts n pants. He rarely bought us toys etc. We needed our wits n boody physical work (no Booty either as we get kicked in our Donkeys fur datto) to earn anyding (thing)... No contest for other than the Sheridan! I know Physics. Later on, i've mounted a scope on it and the accuracy of hitting hi pine tree perched small sparrow was consistent. Later on, i came up w an idea of exploding pellet. I placed a stack of toy pistol caps at the filed off nose, drilled a tiny hole behind the stack, put more powder inside the pellet, and sealed it w glue. I shot plant sappling trunks n broken dem (them) in twos. Datto was a testo of my exploding bullet design on top of this solid nose .20Cal. I could of done the same w the flat nosed .177 or .22. W datto test passed, i shot a bigger bird, dove. And it exploded w feathers, chest wide opened. I was flabbergasted, horrified, and stop shooting any more live birds, or animals near or up in dem Hills. I don't recommend trying this exploding bullet in a center fire or rim fire guns. The heat inside the chamber/bbl can be dangerous. Usual disclaimer on the exploding pellets/bullets. Don't u try that (datto)!

Personally I have owned two silver streaks. I was not that impressed with their accuracy though and let them go . My latest acquisition is a vintage Crossman 1400. It came to me as a non working gun that was at a pawnshop that I frequently peruse. The guy at the shop was glad to unload the “broken gun” on me for fifty dollars. On the other hand I consider myself lucky to buy a flawless vintage air rifle that needed seals replaced for a steal. It is a far better and more accurate rifle than my Sheridans and is in 22 caliber to boot. It did take some time to sort out which ammo it liked best and we settled on 14.5 grain crossman “hollow points.” Not that a hollow point is actually going to mushroom at pellet gun velocities (unless you hit a brick wall). I’m now fully engrossed in pellet gun fever and am considering one of the newfangled PCP guns.

From 1976 until 1992, Sheridans were owned and made by Benjamin. After 1992, Sheridans were made by Crosman and while good rifles, were not the same as the earlier hold down and rocker safety Blue and Silver streaks. The post 1992 Crosman made .20 caliber rifles bore the Sheridan name. The .177 and .22 rifles labeled Benjamin were the same, except for caliber but not labelled Sheridan. All Sheridans ever made are .20 caliber. Sheridans were not usually as accurate as Benjamins and Crosmans because of their cylindrical pellets. Today, Sheridans shoot very well using .20 diablo pellets such as Crosman Premiers and JSB Exacts. These rifles are at their best peep sighted. Scopes can be used, but make pumping more difficult.

Sheridan uses a spring loaded hammer to strike the valve that keeps pressure in the cylinder.

.20 cal pellets are readily available from reputable airgun vendors. You probably will not find them in the big box stores however.

I wouldn't say "readily" available, at least not in Canada. Choices for .20 caliber are disappearing quickly. Crosman, who inherited Sheridan via Benjamin had them available for some time, but no longer it seems. The friend who owns the tested Sheridans ordered a few cans through a local gun shop, and was told what he got was all the distributor had left. The choices may dwindle, but hopefully good .20 pellets will be available for years to come.

@@canuckair I just checked with D&L Airguns and Airgun source Canada (no affiliation) and they have lots of different .20 cal pellets in stock on their web sites. I did say airgun shops, NOT gun shops. most gun shops I have visited do not bother with air guns at all or at best very little.

Funny meeting you here Nibs. Anyway the C9A came after the C9. I bought my C9 with the metal trigger and trigger guard new in 1991 before Crosman bought Benj/Sheridan, so it's marked Made In Racine. The lawyer trigger on yours came out later, maybe 1994 or after. 😊

I'm not aware of any Sheridans with magazine feed. Also, all Sheridans were in .20 calibre. It's an odd combo putting a magazine onto a gun you have to pump up several times before you shoot again. But the Seneca Dragonfly fits that description.

I thought anything over 500 FPS or 5.7 joules was considered a firearm here in Canada and need a PAL (Firearms license) to own? Unless it has to be over both over 500 FPS and 5.7 joules to need a firearms license? I've heard it both ways so I don't know which is the right answer.
