Amel 54 Blue Water Cruiser Boat Tour: Best all around world cruiser!
While we were in Marmaris Turkey we came across this beautiful Amel 54 and we actually knew the owner. So, of coarse, I had to make a tour of this Amel 54 for all to see. She is beautiful with maybe one or two scratches, but I could not find one of them. Hope you enjoy the tour!

This is also my dream boat. I visited it first on Boot Dusseldorf in 2010 (that last models have a golden stripe instead of red one). I also prefer it more than the new one, 55 which is more "Ikea look". And let's not forget that 54 is the last boat designed by Henri Amel. Hope one day... Well thanks both captains. This Amel 54 Baron Roger is in perfect, almost new condition. I wish the captain many many safe miles.

The Amels are the most thoughtfully designed SV for cruising, live aboard and passages that I’ve ever known in my 40 years of sailing. The value of the design and construction of Amels make them worth the cost.

Thanks so much for a very info rich & expedited account of the 54. All the wannabe bloggers can learn from this. Peaches was all about the stateroom for many a good reason! A superb single hander boat ocean worthy. If i wasnt a culinary wannabe cook with a cat window view guy….this mono would be my go to globe trotter..

Those side reels of flat line are most excellent for taking a line ashore off the stern after normal anchoring. This is very common in the Med. I have been trying to replace my plastic reel on Maramu #25 for several years... Lovely boat...

Those thin flat mooringlines are called Ankarolina made on Sweden, sold everywhere. Functional way to secure boat.

Amel yatchs main points for me are the semi enclosed cockpit, no so nice for a racing spirited helmsman, but veeery nice for passages, almost like in a motoryatch. You can steer or do your watch raining, and keep dry, and having instruments and comms right at hand with your cup of coffe next to you, and seated like a captain of an aircraft carrier. The other one is the full featured angine room

Delos convinced me that the Amel is the only Blue Water Yacht just keep coming up short on Three Million or so and that pesky age another 25-30 younger would be wonderful. So it’s a good old imagination daydreams. Thanks for the update Happy sailing

My favourite Amel, so beautifully cared for - it looks brand new - I'm guessing it's one of the last 54's built to be in such great condition, a credit to Petr & his partner. Ken do you know what year or hull number Baron Roger is? thanks for making & sharing this great video & boat. Fair winds

A shallower draft, I agree is nice, and yes... better for getting into many places that are too shallow for deep draft boats. Like going into the canals of Europe, I would love to do that some day. But, also, any moving part below the water line can cause big problems. Going around the world with a hydraulic keel beneath me, would not be my first choice. And, when/if I go cruising up into the canals and locks in Europe... I think I'll be in a barge.. And, when I have to go into shallow areas at my next destination, I take my dinghy. Just wish I had a bigger dinghy! Fair winds!

3 keels, bilge keel and a keel more up front so she can go shallow and stand upright in the mud with low tides
No pumps needed the waste water from the shower and sinks flows by gravity to the grey water tanks in the keel.
Very familiar with the Super Maramu, courtesy of SV Delos, so was interested to see what the main differences were on the Amel 54 as I think whilst the Super Maramu is a pretty capable boat, there is always room for improvement, and never thought the aft cabin was particularly a good use of space; that the front cabin could be improved upon, and both heads were wet heads. I think in the 54, the aft cabin was improved upon, but there is still scope for a better use of the space, the separate shower and the head in general is a significant improvement. There is scope to adjust the pass through bunk, on the way to the master, to give it some privacy. The forward head, again, is a significant improvement, having a separate shower, and the double cabin is far better than the Super Maramu's layout. The bunks, again, I would think there are options to add a partition for some privacy for the occupants, otherwise, this is a really good layout. Some might think that a dishwasher is an unnecessary luxury. As long as you have good solar so power isn't an issue, it means you don't have to use salt water to wash your dishes, and water wise, it's far more efficient than washes dishes by hand. And a washer and dryer means the ability to stay out of marinas for as long as your fuel and food last.

The A54 is a nice world cruiser, but so is the SM. If I was sailing in really bad weather I would rather be in a Super Maramu because, I believe, the Rig on the SM is stronger than the A54. But, if I was looking for comfort I would be on the A54. Both are beautiful, and well laid out boats.

@@SailingAquarius It depends on the age. I would rather sail hard wind and sea conditions with 20 years younger standing rigging with the assumption that the manufacturer of the material is the same. Stainless steel, and especially aluminum, age like other dynamically stressed materials. For example, I would consider whether I would even expose myself to sailing across the ocean with a 30-year-old standing rigging.
Beautiful boat but i had to watch the video at 1.5 speed so you spoke at a reasonable speed your pulse rate must hover around 10bpm.
Really nice boat, but if you have a sorted Super Maramu like yours there doesn't seem to be a big reason to upgrade? I would like to know what he has against lithium batteries? Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching it.

Beneteau Oceanis and Amel are not comparable. These are completely different boat concepts. Regardless which boat this gentleman had before, Amel can be compared with for example Hallberg Rassy or Contest, and Oceanis is closer to Bavaria which was tied stb of this Amel.

Electronics on the mizzen mast. I like the fact that the 54 and the SM have no motors on the mizzen. That is the biggest factor for me. But, Z Admiral, would probably take the 55 hands down.

I am accepting offers. I have a partner, and need to see. Also on the table is parting it out, but then you have to get rid of the rest. Which can be very expensive.
It’s a wonderful boat. Just not fun to sail. But a tank. Great boat.

The Amel 54 is a traveling home. Better to have a tank when going to battle with the open ocean. "Safety and comfort at sea" was the two most important things that Henry Amel designed into all his boats, and that is why many people believe they sail like a "truck" or a "tank". You choose a sports car to cruise around the town on paved roads, you choose a 4 wheel drive truck to go off road into the mountains, and most would choose a tank to go to battle. In boat terms, the Amel SM and 54 would be somewhere between 4 wheel drive truck, and a tank. And, after 4 days at sea battling bad weather, fun sailing, NOT.
I looked at Amel's but once I realised the modern Amel's do not have an integrated keel (ie it is a bolt on keel) I walked away from the Amel as true blue water cruiser. I also do not like the unprotected rudders. Blade rudders without a skeg are just asking for trouble in a true blue water situation. However a coastal pleasure boat...then ok but for true blue water..No!

The Amel 54, and the Amel SM have Skewed rudders. And, even though they have bolts on the keels, I don't know of any Amel SM or 54 that has had a problem with the Keel. The first Amel SM was built in 1989, and not a single one had a problem with the keel. But, you might have a point for the Amel 50/60...That is an entirely new design.

If I sold my house I could buy boat like this + but my wife would kill me before. I guess you can't have everything you want.
Amel is the only sailboat whose designers had the forethought and brains to put the helm station forward in the cockpit within the protection of the dodger and bimini, also, placing it nearer the center of mass of the boat so as to experience less rocking. Putting helm stations at out in the weather, far from the main cabin and at the far end of a teeter-totter, IS STUPID!
No price and no link to the selling website? What a totally useless video.

They are very different. The Amel 54 has just a little more hard (fiberglass) top, and both front windows open to get fresh air in the cockpit. But, the cockpit on the 54 is 12 inches shorter. The 12 inches makes the aft stateroom just a bit larger. Cheers

@@SailingAquarius ...didn't know that re: the 12" in the cockpit although the engine compartment just looked smaller or at least he opening looked smaller. To my eye, your fabric dodger and its structure and the bimini look better that that on the 54, although they are similar. Do you think that the 54 would sail better than your SM?
