Amedeo Modigliani: Unravel the Life of the Artistic Genius Who Redefined Beauty! -Art History School
The Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani lived a traumatic life yet produced some of the most iconic images of the early 20th century. Learn about his life and painting in this Amedeo Modigliani biography. This modern art video covers the life and work of Amedeo Modigliani who was only 35 years old when he died. Modigliani spent most of his working life in Paris and was friends with Picasso, Soutine and many other painters. He was not just a painter, but also a sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is best known for portraits and nudes in a modern style characterized by a surreal elongation of faces, necks, and figures that were not received well during his lifetime, but later became much sought-after. His true love, Jeanne Hebuterne, bore him a child but tragically committed suicide when Amedeo died.

A quite comprehensive survey of Modigliani's life and legacy. Many of the works showcased here were new to me, and the best among the surviving pieces support Modigliani's reputation as a seminal artist of the early twentieth century. In terms of his life, Modigliani seems the quintessential example of the bohemian urban artist of the past century, often living a hand-to-mouth existence on society's margins, and his biography often seems to overshadow the actual art he made and its merits. But the art endures, and the best samples of it are worthy to be set beside any works produced in Europe in the troubled second decade of the tragic twentieth century.

Thank you for this: I didn’t know about Modigliani’s traumatic background. This has inspired me to look at his work more closely. And Jeanne - oh, that poor woman and unborn child! So utterly sad. But European life in post-war 1920 was one big hot mess for so many, this must’ve further exacerbated Jeanne’s distress.

Fascinating art history lesson. So many early works that I've never seen - elegant, abbreviated line drawings. What a shame that he died before he could do more sculpture. I've always thought that should have been his focus. Soutine would be a good subject for a video. Thank you!

Yes, his sculpture was wonderful very much influenced initially by Brancusi. It would have been great to see how it would have developed. Soutine is on my list.

This channel is always worth checking out, there's a lot stuff here that's new to me, (particularly the sculpture and the sketches,) and on whole his pictures are much better than I remember them being. The connection with Brancusi now you've pointed it out is pretty much self evident.
