I built my system in September 2011 with the 1100t - stock 3.3GHz - Turbo 3.6GHz which I haven't tried overclocking. It's running almost any game well-enough for me since I have it paired with a GTX 980 that replaced a 560 a couple years ago. The only games I can't run on it are those handful that require SSE 4.1 like Dead Rising 4 and Little Nightmares but games like Resident Evil 7 got patched and I think my average framerate in the demo was over 100fps at 1080p on high.

I decided to build my daughter a gaming rig now that she turned 8 and is getting into more gaming than just roblox and I built it with this CPU on an ASUS M5A87 mobo as the foundation. Lets just say that while paired along with a 290x and 16gb 1866 G.skill ram this PC still easily pushes 90% of todays best games at 1080P and high settings no problem at all. She will be happy for a couple years at least and it cost me about 160$ total to build and the games she wants are dirt cheap on Steam which is very nice as well. I feel bad for my friends who are stuck buying their kids new PS4 and Xbox games at 40+ on avg every month or so SMH

@@SDcharge2k12 LOL yeah it's crazy how much the tech companies are milking the average user. Hardware made nearly 10 years ago still works just fine for most software. I'm running a 1100T at 4ghz with an RX480 4gb and all my games still come in at 60fps at 1080p. My dumb self upgraded my mobo when the 990fx chipset came out thinking I would want to upgrade to the AM3+ FX chip but Nah, that thing ain't worth it pretty much garbage. Now I'm looking at the 3rd gen Ryzen and an AM4 mobo. Looks very promising and actually worth my money.

Yeah I have a Skylake build now but I bought a couple parts to put my Phenom 955 + GTX 950 build back together. I keep it at my parent's house so I have something when I visit, though I ended up putting it in my mom's office. She had like a 10 year old Dell running Vista that she wouldn't bother using cause it was too slow (took like 2 minutes to wake from sleep), and I felt bad hoarding the better PC in my room when I wasn't even there most the time. She hasn't even used it though, still does everything on her phone. Here I am visiting, using my cheap laptop. I should just take the Phenom build back into my room.

The 1055T is a sturdy strong cpu, I've had mine nearly 3years it was OC to 3.5ghz, but had to down it to 2.8ghz for the Win10 release. I recently decided to OC it again but accidentally deleted the Asus OC Profile, but manual OC wasn't too hard, just needed Multi14.0, cpufeq250 and dram1333, the rest was preset, just need to let it finish setting up :-)

@IvorStiffan Chances are for 4.2 you will need more than the stock 1.475. However there is no harm in trying it at that voltage as you can always increase it if it turns out to be unstable. Just obviously watch temperature, and don't go over 1.6 V, but there should be no reason you would need to if you have a decent chip.

@daxcastro The case depends on where its going (if under/inside a desk, will need dimensions) and what you plan to put into it (plus ease of use and cable management if you're into that). Side fan/no side fan. number of devices for future install, hot swap bays, USB 3.0 ports, eSATA, # of drive bays, do you want fan controllers, LED fan options, water cooling/radiator options, and don't forget a PSU that can accommodate a fully loaded case once everything you want in the future is in there.

@daxcastro Was gonna suggest some low profile heatsinks, but there wasn't enough difference in temps between them and your stock fan (plus your temps are higher because of case configuration/size). So I figured since space is a premium that air cooling is out since the bigger it is, the more heat it can dissipate. So I looked at water cooling as an option. But both Corsair's H50/60/70 and Antec's Kuhler H20-620/920 lines don't have clearance in your case on top or bottom of the radiator. *sigh*

Hi Linus Thanks for the quick response. The three fans are located like this 1) on top of the processor in a tower chassis 2) top of the chassis in line with the processor at a dist of 5 inches 3) back of the chassis horizontal to the processor at a distance of 3 in. Based on this info, is it possible to overclock 1055 to 4 GHz. Additional info, I use only Ubuntu.

The best processors to use for overclocking are either new top of the line ones, or slightly older ones that were top of the line at the time. This is an excellent processor. I super cool mine, and get it running stable at about 5.2 GHz. Max temperature I hit is about 20-26C. For normal liquid cooling, you can probably get around 4-4.6 GHz out of this processor, for a fraction of the price of anything that could do that without overclocking. Max temp is going to be about 50C for you.

@daxcastro You left out the only crucial piece of info other than CPU. THE ACTUAL CASE. Measure the width of the case and subtract 1 inch (+ whatever depth your side fan is if you have one) and that's the max height of the CPU cooler you can install. Anything with at least 6 heat pipes and a 120mm fan will do you. Things to think about are direction of airflow, RAM clearance, noise level of fan(s). With more details I'd be happy to give you 2 options for your setup. Also, remove double post. :)

@artooooooooooooo Are you on stock cooling? That would make a difference, more heat means you need more voltage/clock. It could just be that your chip can't run stable over 3.8, or that it needs a voltage bump to do so.

@chickenpoper I highly doubt that low of a temp unless you are using watercooling. These CPUs have incorrect sensors. The correct temp is TMPINI or something on a program called HWMonitor. The true temp is about 10c* higher than what it says on the CPU Core temp. TMPINI is the only sensor to be trusted. Mine is the same.

@CaInTerTainmenT It could be a motherboard issue, its fine. Try upping the voltage a little. If its blue screening it maybe getting too warm. Use speedfan to check the temps or bios. BSOD is fine... when its really badly overclocked often it wont boot up at all. If your multiplier is increasing the FSB to the ram it will cause memory errors resulting in BSOD. Make sure your multiplier doesnt cause the RAM to go over its operating frequency.

Just came across this video, 6 years later, lol. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. I have an AMD phenom II 1100t, with 8gb ram, and a new radeon 470. The rig still handles every game I throw at it on max, but with some games like World of Warcraft, my low end fps will dip to low 30s in excessively busy areas. I believe this is because my cpu is at the stock 3.3ghz and even turbo was turned off. I plan on overclocking it to 4ghz today, and I have a good heatsink to keep it cool. I understand changin the multilplier and voltage, but why is the voltage on the dram here set to 1.65? Isn't that a little high? Should I adjust mine if its at 1.6 or leave it? Also, should I expect any increase if in games (such as WoW) if I Oc to 4.0ghz, or just leave the turbo setting on? Thanks
