I upgraded my phenom II x4 b55 to a r5 1600X. The performance uplift is massive, but for some newer games and daily use, the phenom II is still fine.

@@markaz2kk I certainly can't run modern AAA games, but Fallout 4, Doom '16 are fine. She doesn't like 4k HEVC, but 4k H264 is great, though taxing @60fps. However, I have no need for AV software/Windows defender - those are probably killing you..

This brings back great memories! I used to have several Prometia Mach I and Mach II GT units, as well as a couple Vapochill LS units. I would re-gas them with R504b and extend the coil for lower temps that could hold a bit higher voltage. Ran my Intel P4 2.0ghz CPU at 4.4ghz for 3 years everyday with a Mach I unit, my Intel 2.4ghz at 4.6ghz for 4 years before I upgraded, and my video editing station was a P4 2.4ghz at 4.2ghz and I left it on 24/7 for years. Instead of using paper towels to soak up moisture I would use .25” neoprene padding on front and back of the CPU, and slather a load of (non conductive) dielectric grease all over the back and front (inside the CPU socket) of the motherboard and as you did, use a high CFM fan over the CPU. You can always remove the grease with a toothbrush and alcohol afterwards. None-the-less....Great work! I really enjoyed seeing someone within the last decade using one still and hope you throw it on some newer CPUs (9900ks? 10900?).

I used my phenom x4 965 4.5 ghz at 1.515 voltage with air cooler max in bench 59 C , intensive games 49-52 C , summer 54 C. I used it like two years 7/24 after that BSOD it has never reopened again to bios but it gave me best of my times, still love it.

The only problem I found was the temperature of some of the Phenoms being a bit on the hot side. That being said the FX's were known to get a bit hot too. I guess I was just lucky with what I had at the time - an FX-4350 that used to idle at something like 12 degrees celsius!

@@ajs2120 I compared FX 6300 vs Phenom II X6 1055T. FX ran a bit warmer, but Phenom consumed much more power than FX. Also FX was noticeably faster than Phenom II X6 1055T.

1.6 vcore at 5 GHz 43 percent faster. I like the gt 2 compressor. Oc and benchmark tests were nice to see .solid data and temps

my Phenom X4 955 did 4.2GHZ with a 92mm tower cooler from an old hp prebuilt (with two fans at 4500rpm, not a daily setup). But unfortunately my motherboard would only do about 1.49v max so that limited me significantly (NB at 2500mhz)

You can use AMD overdrive to chance oc while in os. Not newest version but still. BTW using phenom x4 955 c3 with 1.37v 4ghz in daily use with 7970

Thanks for tip. As always all about luck. I made 4ghz with 1.5V and that‘s all. For higher freqs = more voltage up to 1.8V.

The best Deneb Phenom 2 Quads to overclock on were the 975 and 980. They used a much lower voltage and could easily overclock to 4.2 GHz along with a 2.8GHz NB and maintain very cool temperatures.

So good to see this in 2020, i'm still runing my 2009 PC with Phenom ii x4 955 BE 3.2Ghz and overclock to 4.2 or 4.3ghz a few times over the years when required, a hell of a strong CPU it is, i can't believe it took 9 to 10 years to this CPU to bottleneck in gaming :) best buy i did in the last decade

That's wild. one of my builds has a 965 in it, but it's in a really blah ECS board. it does have some overclocking, but it's really finicky about it. Far as i'm aware, best performance boosts of phenom overclocking were by overclocking the NB first, then memory speed where possible. I was able to hit 3.9GHz on my 965 with prime stability at 1.525vcore, but the board won't even let me select past DDR3-1600, and won't let me go past 2GHz NB speed. So, a very intel-like overclock on air.

Your Board needs a Bios-Update or buy the old Flagship-Board form Jetway. They are cheap today and not hard to find today :)

Look for those two Mainboards www.techpowerup.com/91796/jetway-releases-xblue-series-motherboards If you can't find one you can go with a Biostar-Mainboard with a TA790-Chipset. A DFI LAN PARTY AM2+ Mainboard is very good option too but you need a litte luck to find one. Or look for Sapphire-Board if you want something rare and special :) Whatever you are buying please DON'T buy Boards from AsRock, they are all junk! The AM2/AM2+/AM3 AsRock-Boards will die on overclocking!!! They have bad VRM's!!!

Been using my Phenom II X4 3.0 GHz 940 Black Edition since 10/2008. Just upgrading now. Can easily over clock up to 3.6 GHz on air cooling alone.

what's number did u have on 955 RB-C3? I have a HDZ955FBK4DGM CACAC AC and it can't reach 3.8ghz at 1.45v i must set it to 1.47v, I want overclock it to 4.0ghz but it's possible only at 1.5v. Im using Evercool Transformer 4 and Asus Crosshair II Formula with Corsair Dominator 1066mhz CL5 stick's. Procesor working stable at 1.3v 3.2Ghz, same situation 1.35v 3.6ghz. I only overclocking by multiplier

Holy crap. I got extremely lucky with my old x4 945 system, it was able to get 3.95 on air with a locked multiplier. I didn't know they could almost beat 4c/8t intel chips in chinebench15. I use to think my old system was bad but not anymore. Finally replaced it last year but I'm keeping the hardware for an xp retro gaming machine.

I remember that I bought Phenom II 555 X2 and unlocked the 2 other cores, so it was B55 X4 CPU :D

@@prathameshlotake1318 if you have good motherboard (you need to have SB710 or SB750 chipsets ), you just go to bios, enable Advanced Clock Calibration, set EC Firmware Selection to Hybrid and if you are lucky enough you will have Phenom II B55 X4 cpu :)

You should get that Mach 2 rebuilt, I bet after so many years much of the gas has run out. Also, get this man some Kryonaut! Great vid though.

Good video. I think if you tried a higher binned Phenom II you'd have better results. I have a golden 980 BE that does 4.4Ghz on air 24/7 and I've run benches at 4.7 on air in the winter

I upgraded to the FX 9590 and kept the Phenom 980 as a back up but I went through my garage and started cleaning out all of my old PC parts and I thought I threw away my Athlon 64 4000+ but I accidentally threw away my Phenom IIX4 980. I did have some proof of my overclocks but I've reformatted several times since then. I usually kept it @ 4.2 with a 2.8 NB but if I didn't o.c. the NB I could take it to 4.5 and maintain Prime 95 stability.

Nice video. I have the original asus crosshair 1. I'm thinking on getting a CPU for it and see how far I can go and have a 24/7 overclock. But it's too much time (and money on cpu and cooler)...

Very impressive but how do you deal with the moisture on the chips? Such low temp can produce a lot of humidity on the board, isn't that a bad idea? Just guessing..

For few hours running no problem. MB has heating plate from other side, this helps with freezing.

@@GHOST-tz8hz Когда-то был выбор между 960 и 1045Т, цена вопроса была 100 долларов. Зделал ставку на шесть ядер и непрогодал, разгон по шине, уравнивает всю линейку. В продаже тогда только появился fx 8150 при стоимости в 1.5 - 2 раза дороже, так что выбор был очевиден. Ещё позже оказалось что 4х ядерные модели можно разлочить до 6. В этот период я понял, AMD рулит 😀

960T разлоченный в x6 1600T @4 ГГц, можно и дальше гнать, но нужно хорошее охлаждение. Сколько он пережил с 2012 года... Сначала работал на ASUS M5A78L-M\USB3 в режиме 6 ядер @3.7 при 1.4в, кстати, у данной платы очень хорошо реализована функции LLC, под нагрузкой с параметром 32% напряжение держала как вкопанная, не повышала и не понижала, жаль что не было радиаторов на силовой части, плата рабочая до сих пор) Потом этот проц на время перекочевал на MSI 890FXA-GD65, где благополучно выпалил одну фазу =) но там была уже проблема, у той фазы уже был выпален один drmos и демонтирован без замены, под нагрузкой естественно нагрузка на фазу возросла вдвое... Но проц выжил хахаха После этого он был установлен в ASUS Crosshair IV Formula где до сих пор трудится и кстати вполне уверенно держится при просмотре 4К фильмов. К сожалению узким местом у этих процессоров является контроллер памяти...

Also... try "liquid metal" from thermal grizzly, for cryo-cooling, because thermal paste stops working when it freezes.

Liquid Metal is useless for subzero. What he needs is something like Kryonaut or GC-Extreme.

AMD Chips maintained the same look. As like intel had a ceramic Chip in the earlier times.

I have an Phenom 555 X2 that I unlocked to 4 cores on a gigabyte board. However, I think a bios update took that feature out (maybe under pressure from AMD?). Has anybody had that issue? What solutions are available?

OC je vzdy o stesti, nemam 50ks procesoru, jsou porad moc drahe.. Nejlepsi vysledek na kompresoru je 5.5 GHz, cokoliv vys je LN2.

Biostar has nothing to do with your drivers m8, AMD makes the chipset and supplies the drivers. You just need to integrate them into Win7 with a script like Integrate7, which is how i'm running Windows 7 Enterprise on a R5 2600/Crosshair VII. I agree though, bootup is slow as shit on Ryzen. My M6500, a laptop from 2010, boots into Win7 faster!
