Fun fact: a sonic boom is an extreme case of the Doppler effect, also, boat wakes are sonic booms

Anileh t When the siren approaches you, it makes a high-pitch sound. When the siren crosses you and is going away from you, it makes a lower-pitch sound. The volume of the siren depends on how close is the siren towards your area. Hope that clears up confusion.

When it goes towards you the pitch gets higher when its next to you hear the actual pitch of the sound when it passes you it decreases

Yes it can ! it is also sometimes referred as blue or red shift. That's actually how we know that the universe is expanding

@@Lana-qp9qv but that doesn't apply to the video cuz in order to see it on, the car should've revving up at a speed way faster than that.

I'm not sure if this theory is true, I don't think the pitch changes, I only hear the amplitude that changes (dB), not the frequency

It's true. It's proved with red shifting and blue shifting and it makes perfect sence. When I searched the dopple effect the first vid at the top was realy simple and I understood it right away.

It’s harder to tell on certain sirens (and certain sounds in general) more so than others.

It's not always easy to hear. On 2 tone sirens used in many European countries, it's much more noticeable than for the sirens used in the UK and the US
