Amblyopia is an Eye Condition, in which there is partial loss of Vision without any visible organic defect of Retina.

Whenever there is some amount of loss of vision of eyes, there is definitely some organic cause, or Retina or the screen on the back side of eye may show some changes that are visible with the help of an Ophthalmoscope.
But in Amblyopia, there is no such organic defect seen.
Retina may look normal when seen with an Ophthalmoscope.
It’s also called LAZY EYES at times.
If we analyse the characteristics of Amblyopia, we will see that:
It’s mostly found in Children and early young age.
Usually occurs in one eye. Rarely occurs in both eyes.
There is no redness of eye.
There can be big difference of spectacle powers of eyes. And,
There can be high spectacle powers in both eyes.
Since birth or early childhood, there can be:
Cataract or opacity of Lens inside the Eye,
Squint in one Eye, and haziness or partial opacity of cornea.
There may be family history of Amblyopia, meaning Parents or near family members may have the same eye condition.
There are mainly four types of amblyopia.
1. Strabismic Amblyopia or amblyopia because of squint,
2. Anisometropic amblyopia - due to big difference of spectacle powers,
3. Ametropic Amblyopia -- High Spectacle Power in both Eyes
4. Stimulation Deprivation Amblyopia -- due to Obstruction to light path of eye.
In this video all the four types have been discussed in details with photographs.
Parents are also advised to take care of eyes of Children, and take the children to ophthalmologist for routine eye check up.

There is no hard and fast rule. I think it's better to consult an Eye Specialist and follow his instructions. I haven't examined you. So it may not be ideal to give you any advice.

Amblyopia is a condition that is best treated below 10 years of age. At your age it's difficult. You may try vision therapy. But a good outcome is doubtful. Best wishes.

নাতি যখন 7 বছর বয়স, তখন ঠিক মত occlusion করলে এটা ঠিক হয়ে যাবে । আপনি একজন orthoptics ক্লিনিকে নাতি কে দেখান।

Hello sir, My son is 3.4 years old, his left eye is squint and lazy. His left eye number is - 11. And the right eyes is straight and the number is -1. 50. Doctor gave him contact lenses for left eye and glass for right eye. The problem is he don't wear lenses. Is there any other solution, please suggest sir.

I think your Doctor did the right thing. However, three months trial occlusion of good eye may be done. If vision improves in RE, then squint surgery may be done.
Sir i am 23 and my right rye is -3.5 and left eye is 6/6.i don't use any specs from last 8 years i got check in 8th class but i can seee clearly with one eye. Sir is it amblyopia if it is can i do lasik plss reply.

I cannot say if your right eye is having amblyopia or not since I haven't examined your eyes. You haven't mentioned what is your visual acuity in left eye. However, you may undergo LASIK. But, at your age, your spectacle power will reduce after Lasik but visual acuity is not likely to improve, if you have less vision in left eye.

@@BhaskarDeychannel sir visual acuity in my left eye is normal I can see crystal clear without specs from that but when I hide my left eye I see blurry with my right eye and when tested it was around -3.5 d in right eye. My brain over time has prefer my dominant eye I.e left eye what does it mean sir? Pllz helpp I can't understand visual acuity he checked it and write on small paper that this is your problem. I think it is anisometropic amblyopia.

@utkarshsingh6882 Now it's quite clear. You have amblyopia in right eye. So as I said earlier, after Lasik your spectacle power will reduce, but there will not be any gain in vision.

Do all amplyopic patients have squinted eye? I have amplyopia in my right eye . Now my eyes are in straight position .is there any chance for squinted eyes?

No, not all amblyopic patients have squinted eyes. Amblyopia can be without squint. If your age is above 15 years, there is very less chance of eyes becoming squinted.

Can't say without examining your eyes. What you say is confusing. Amblyopia doesn't occur at this age. There must be some other reason why you have blurry vision for one month. I think it's better that you get your eyes checked by an Ophthalmologist.

Laser treatment can reduce the spectacle power. But if the patient is more than 12 years, vision may not improve.
My child has 2 lazy eyes how do you treat that?

If your child has amblyopia in both eyes, it's possible that your child has high spectacle power, similar type in both eyes. Treatment for this type of amblyopia is to wear properly prescribed glasses constantly. This way vision of both eyes will definitely improve. But if your child has any other defect such as cataract or corneal opacity, then treatment of causative factor has to be done. Please get your child's eye examined by an Ophthalmologist. Best wishes.

As I mentioned in my video, the result of treatment of Amblyopia after 10 to 12 years, is uncertain. Since most Doctors had told you about the outcome of treatment, I hope you have already understood it. However, you may try Computerized Vision therapy. I am sorry to inform you that the outcome of this treatment, once again, is not favorable. That's why an well informed Doctor never recommends it. Only those who has purchased the instrument, recommend it. I never recommend it to anyone. But since you have requested, I am just mentioning it. Please inform me about your experience, if you gain any vision after the treatment.

Lasik may reduce the spectacle power, bu it will not correct amblyopia.

Hi, Please tell me how old is she and what is her vision in left eye with minus 6 diopter. Then only I can say whether she is amblyopic or not. If she is more than 12 years and her visual acuity is less than 6/12 with glasses in left eye, then there is a possibility that she is amblyopic.

Good. Still there is a possibility of recovery from amblyopia if she has any. Because you haven't mentioned her vision with glass in left eye, I couldn't definitely say if she is amblyopic or not. However, please consult an ophthalmologist soon. My best wishes for her.

No, not always. If, there is squint in one eye since childhood and remains untreated, the chances of amblyopia is more.
