    Hey Jon, I like the Ambient Guitar Swells tutorial, especially at 4:57 into the video. You display what you say is playing harsh on the bridge. I just wanted to say that I found it beautifully inspiring. I subscribed to your channel and didn't find a full video of that (harsh) type of playing technique , so I was wondering if you have a 4-5 minute video playing just like that. I'd love to hear a continuation of it. If so how do I find it. Thanks.

    Hey, I've had the same problem with trails going on and on from having feedback settings on my pedals for good swells. I don't have the gear for it, but you can add another volume pedal at the end of your chain. A little bit of foot dancing but can be crucial to use in some parts.

    ***** Hahaha. I layer a lot of my delays. Commonly I will use an analog delay, a tape delay and a digital delay to get some of my swell tones. I obviously like the timeline and the things that it does. So if I ever wanted to layer two unique delays like the ice and the dual digital panning left and right in series I have the ability to do so. It just gives me more flexibility in my tone and doesn't restrict my creativity.

    AWESOME PEDAL BOARD!! What are the fingerings for your chord inversions?? I have the Boss GT-10, which is a digital multi-effects processor. However, there is a "manual" mode I can put it in, which resembles analog stompboxes, in the sense that I can turn effects on and off under the same patch. It's actually pretty cool. Anyway, what should the settings be for: delay? Reverb? Modulation? I can have two delays set up, too. Should I use some slight overdrive, like the TS9? We don't have a keyboardist at the moment, so I would love to create ambient noise in between songs.

    Where do you put the volumepedal? Because i heard its different if you put it before distortion or after. I want the volume to do cool swells and when i dont want the distortion to be clean when im using the volume pedal when i put it down. i want the gain to be the same all way to quiet. Also where do you have your POG and freeze in chain?

What octave pedal are you using?

    Ashley Chenga Obviously I am not Jon, but I do have some pointers. If you want to have the ultimate usefulness, I would recommend trying to get the TC Electronic Triple Delay so you could have the clean digital delay and the darker analog repeats on at the same time, but in one box. If you can't get something like that (or two different boxes), then I would recommend getting a digital delay that has some kind of modulation control (or maybe an analog like the MXR Carbon Copy). Anything with modulation will sound great with swells, but analog delays generally don't have tap tempo and aren't very clean for percussive dotted eighth type delays (again, not a rule, just a general idea). You can totally get either, but for swells, I recommend analog or digital with modulation so your swells don't sound "sterile."

  • @rhinojaxx4197

    @rhinojaxx4197

    Micah Davis Thank you so much. Helped me out a ton. I will definitely look that up TC triple Delay. I recently started building a pedalboard and as far as delay is concerned I was able to get the DD7 Boss pedal for a start. I like the dotted 8 stuff/and tap tempo feature it has (with Foot Switch). And thanks for explaning a little about analog vs digital. I lean towards the digital cause I'm a Boss fan & fell for DD7 first time I saw a demo. Modulation in pedals is a term I am trying to grasp too as I did the analog vs digital delay. So much to learn. Thanks again! Cheers from Mozambique

  • @micahdavis3625

    @micahdavis3625

    If you have the DD7 already, then I would definitely go for something like the Carbon Copy. It'll get you that darker analog modulation that'll liven up your swells. Cheers!

    +Miguel F regarding your question about does it get "redundant if you get another delay or reverb even though you already have those on your pedal board" I don't know if you caught what he was explaining when he moved onto what he calls "advance swells" but he went from one delay pedal & one reverb to an "analog delay, a 'dual delay', a really washy reverb" & an additional reverb on top of that. there's nothing really "advanced" about it you're just using more effects pedals but there is a difference in sound, if you could hear it, with more a deeper more effected sound & the chords decayed slower. it's really just a matter of preference & the sound you're going for. as far as if you mean the exact same pedal like having one electro harmonix holy grail and adding another holy grail to your board that's still a matter of preference. if you really like the reverb or delay produced by a certain pedal why not? to have two delay or reverb pedals that have different features or can do slightly different things such as looping abilities might add more tools to your sonic palette. hope this helps

    How to play pads on a guitar basically. The volume pedal makes it easier than the volume knob obviously.

    Hmmm, all those Strymons and a Visual Sound OD? I suppose you don't even need a great OD pedal with a Badcat and a Jackson amp behind you. Sounds pretty great.

    Brian Tost This was my ambient set up. I was playing a solo gig and didn't have a need for my overdrives HOWEVER don't you underestimate VS (or truetone's) overdrives. They have become MUCH better.

    Have you ever had problems with a crackle when you swell up on your volume pedal? I'm to the point where I can't do swells because when I got from heel to toe, something (presumably the vp) and I'm not sure how to fix it

    I'm having a lot more trouble choosing a volume pedal than I thought, I'm reading a lot about losing tone/volume etc when they are used, I usually just chalk it up to snobs who refuse to use pedals but it has me worried! Any particular pedals you would recommend? Awesome video and playing, keep them coming! :D

    Ive NEVER had any tone issues using my vpjr. None of the "tone-loss" issues ever effected me. But I like my tone really bright and usually my volume pedal is right in the middle of my chain so theres all kinds of buffers and blah blah blah to help it. SO! All depending on where you have your volume pedal and what pedals you have in front of it (if at all) you should be fine.

    jon carolino I might be late, but my volume pedal of choice right now is the AMT Little Loudmouth. It has a buffer in it to reduce signal loss and a built in boost in case you experience a volume drop or just want to push your amp harder. It also has a crazy small footprint, but still a good sweep. If you're worried about tone loss, check out some active pedals just in case (or put a buffered pedal in front of the vp). Hope this helps!
