Persephone's solo in Chant II also had other lyrics for a while and those made it to early Broadway performances (you can probably still find some slimes that use it) before being cut: When I was a young girl like you, This whole world was young once too. We set it spinning hand in hand, Me and a young man. Now you see what he's become, Hades and his heart of stone. I forgot what true love was, And then I heard poor Orpheus. Take it from a woman of my age, There is nothing love can't change. Even when the bricks are stacked, Love is blooming through the cracks. Even when the light is gone, Love is reaching for the sun. It was love that spun the world, When I was a young girl. I am especially sad that they cut that version (and changed Hades's lyrics that matched by him saying "When I was a young man"). Because it really helped mirror Hades and Persephone as what Orpheus and Eurydice would likely be in twenty years and really underlines that for all the dysfunction in their marriage, they still love each other and want to fix things.

I got chills hearing this! These lyrics are so perfect and I love how they connect the show! I love her and this show so much!

I would die to get an official recording of these. I know chant ii is in the workshop recording but I need it in every form I can get

I can forgive those parts being cut due to time and stuff. What I can't agree with was cutting the "Ambrosia Wine" verse from "Way Down Hadestown".

Yeah, what she led with was the 2014 intro to How Long, then she transitioned to Persephone’s cut verse from Chant II.

I was there on the Saturday night, it was a spectacular show 🥰
