Cory, great tip about building the tank around any puffer species. I got 2 pea puffers to start. Now have 5 pea puffers and 3 amazon puffers. If they even get remotely hungry, the amazons start praying on guppies (which i removed), cherry shrimp (most removed) and they even horas my cory's paleatus and bristlenose. I could only get frozen crill but they also steal the pallets from the cory's. Snails are on the menu from time to time, as I am starting up snail breeding in another tank. I like them a lot, so it was no problem to move almost all the other fish to another tank (which was only growing plants anyways). Curious how they will develop. They are getting pretty fat from the heavy feeding, but they are still very small in length. Thanks for the words of advice and sharing valuable information about puffer fish as ,like you said, there is not a lot of info around and even quality fish stores will give poor advice.

I have a few species only puffer tanks but I have always been interesting in Amazons due to their generally calm temperament when compared to other puffers. I was able to obtain them once at an LFS but they just did not do well at all for me unfortunately. They ended up getting ick extremely badly while in quarantine and ultimately passing despite my best efforts. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to get puffers that are not only wild caught.

I got an Amazon Puffer 2 weeks ago. He is in a 10gal quarantine tank with a few plastic plants and a fake hollow rock, i did general cure to de worm, water tests out all good temp is 77 and i cant get him to eat... i dont have access to live bloodworms so got him a bowl that put new frozen ones in every day, he has a bunch of pond snails in the tank of varying sizes, i crushed a large snail and put that in his bowl he doesnt pay any interest. His 20 gallon tank is cycled and stable it has 3 small pepper corys and a small ghost shrimp in it and i intended to add 5 ember tetras and give it a week before i put him in but now im thinking i should get him in and add other fish later...

Hey Cory, I'm a new sub and love this straightforward type of channel. Need advice-> I'm thinking on starting a 30g half moon tank with either 6-7 DP or attempt a community with 1 of these guys (mulling over species). I'll have another tank to breed feeder snails and maybe another to breed feeder shrimp. With APs, I understand the risk of getting a nasty one, but I've read over many on forums that say their teeth overgrow no matter how many snails they throw at them. Have you had this happen? Really not feeling going through dentistry with these guys.

Also, I have to move places twice in the next 2 years; Once more locally and once long distance (school). After that, I'm not sure if I'd stay put or move the following 4 years. This is one thing that's holding me back, I love the hobby and miss it but I don't want to kill/rehome everything if I have to move. How hardy would puffers be with this and how hard is it to move fish in general?

I knew a dwarf puffer in my community tank wouldn't work. So I have a community tank with 2 schools of rainbows ( 5 each, bosemani and preacox) a dwarf gourami, 10 Cory cats. Synodontis petricola, and a few other community fish. Would 3 of these work in there?

First off thanks Cory and the rest of aquarium coop! All the plants and products I have bought have been has been awesome! Your videos are great I hope to see more puffer action. These guys are my dream fish I have been preparing for them for quite some time. Have already started a rcs tank and a snail tank for the day I can finally buy them. Having only cared for salt water puffer fish in the past. I have a couple of questions. I am starting a 55 gallon tank RO water with remineralized Neutral PH GH and KH (I live in Vegas my water is almost 8.0 and off the charts in hardness) I plan to use eco complete substrate and heavy planted, carpet plants drift wood rock Easy green fluval lights etc. since I want to do this right and I don’t know when/if I’ll ever see these fish building the tank now so it will be established. My normal clean up crew are amono shrimp and rams horn snails would would recommend anything else for my dedicated amazon puffer tank? also do you see any problems with the set up?

I was thinking a heavily planted tank 40-55gallons with maybe dwarf Gourami's or various barbs, and possibly tetras. What's a great reliable source for snails and other foods for the Amazon puffers? Any small ramshorn or pond snails will do. The easiest way is to set up a small 10 gallon snail tank as they breed rapidly and would provide a constant food source. But most fish stores have them in abundance and would let them go for very cheap if not free if you ask nicely enough

@bob bob Wrong, my 5 C/Asellus will eat baby cherry shrimp but live happily with Amano's and adult cherries, completely ignore them, in fact, they're scared of the Amano's.

I have ordered two types of freeze dried krill & my puffers aren’t interested in them at all. They all go after blood worms and I have bladders & ramshorns in my aquarium but they are rarely in “hunt” mode.... despite covering 3 walls they still want to surf the glass for the most part. How did yours acclimate to the freeze dried krill? At least that would help a tiny bit with their beaks.... i cheer and dance on the rare occasion they go after snails because I cannot see myself doing any dental work. They all have plump tummies.. I just hate that stress type obsession with their reflection or whatever it is?? I have done countless hours of research on the amazons & I have tried all kinds of things... if you have any info you can pass along to me. Please let me know.. also the tank is well planted... a lot of over hanging plants, catippa leaves sometimes, plants in each corner, I move things around in the aquarium all the time to keep them interested in exploring.... any advice for helping these guys?

Hi! You can't mix these puffer with Green spooted ones? Tho to the brackish water the Greens wants.

After watching your video, I'm curious if the Amazon Puffer would do well in an African Cichlid FRY tank? Do you think the fry would be eaten or left alone for the most part?

I have two amazon puffers and one of them won't eat. I've tried ram horn snails, blood worms, rapashy with oyster shells, freeze dried krill, and even clams on a half shell. I think it's not going to make it :( my other puffer is doing great.
