Amazon Interview Dos and Don'ts from an Amazon Sr. Recruiter (Things to know before the interview)

Many of my audience ask questions on how to succeed in an Amazon interview. I thought the best person to answer this would be a current Amazon recruiter who goes through the interview process all the time. Balaram Poddar, a Sr. Recruiter at Amazon, shares 3 dos and 3 don’ts that you should keep in mind when you interview with Amazon. Hope you find this helpful!

Your questions to your guests are helpful. Your videos are informative for learning how to structure my narrative. One nit: There are quite a few typos in these videos which made me question the veracity of the content. I powered through but better grammar would go a long way. Don't let it hold you back from creating content but Grammarly could help :)

Why Amazon doesn’t share the feedback after loop interview when you don’t select the candidate? It will be extremely helpful for candidate to know what are they missing so they can work on it.

great question. I would say not really. in those type of questions, I would answer it in this way. OREO. Opinion, Reasons, Evidence, Opinion (emphasize at the end) So for example, My strength is XXX (Opinion), here is the reason why (reasons), here is an example (evidence), therefore, my strength is XXX. (opinion)

Thank you so much, although it was extremely helpful there are certain key takeaways. It’s pretty evident if you are honest they seem to only want to dig deep, find faults rather than actually see how technically capable the candidate is!

Hi, What does it mean when recruiter contact you for screening then help you schedule an interview with hiring manager but then stops answering any emails from you asking about coming interview format and expectations. It was totally unpleasant experience and shock my confidence before I even had the interview thinking the decision was already made even before the interview happen. The interviewer by the way didnt even read my resume according to what he said when I asked him why he keeps asking on something thats not core skill in my resume nor in the job description. As if I was setup for failure. Is it possible that they would change their mind before the interview happens but decides to go with it as formality for some other reaons? which is unfair for the interviewee. Thx

4:40 I wonder if he would have named other formats before the interjection. I can think of at least 1 more, like SOAR. But I never heard of PAR? before, maybe SCAR. 5:05 And what are KPIs? We need to minimize using acronyms or at least explain them for those that are not familiar with that type of culture. 7:52 - 8:14 😅😄 14:07 I was eager as well; in my, "please tell me more [marketing] mode". 🤓 16:37 I've heard a number of senior leadership members never moved up because of that question even though they've been in the industry for a great number of years or got more experienced than a whole team or group. Even if they haven't really experienced any tangible failures or flaws. I guess it came down to either they were disingenuous of their responses or did not know how to tailor, convey or communicate that perfectionist complex well enough. But if they're senior enough they should know the process, right? (Amazon smirk, I mean, grin→)😏 17:45 Is the 3rd reason _Not ansering_ or _Not answering the question_ ? 18:00 - 18:08 😄😄 21:13 - 22:13 I didn't know Amazon didn't use the ATS/software tracking system or limits that feature. Although, I've heard of cases where humans actually read it. But I never knew the process of how they would sort out all those resumes manually. If they were trained to do this, I may question the accuracy of that process. As a worst case scenario, I'd like to think a weak enough resume but a (very) strong interview can still make it past the final l➿p on getting hired. #Amazon #recruiting #interview

I interviewed for a highly technical role at AWS. They only cared about the behavioral questions. They didn't care about the technical aspects. After watching Amazon coaching videos like this, I have learned that Amazon wants you to make up stories. Just lie out your butt. They are looking for good liars for technical roles, not good workers. And they wonder why they can't find anyone to fill the technical roles. A good EOT never deals with customers, because they are behind the scenes. (And don't give me the BS that doing work in-house for other departments is working for a customer. A customer pays you directly for your products or services.)
