Be careful though, since Brexit train freight has been very slow and had lots of issues!

Hey Luca, thanks very much for your videos. I’m about to begin the first mass run of the production (small and light cosmetic item). Do you use Freightos to get the quotes? How do you decide which freight forwarder is the one to go for? I don’t mind paying a little extra if it means they have good client support and professional working habits. I am just starting out this business and will have the items shipped to my address as I will be fulfilling the orders, not FBA at the moment. But later of course. Thank you again for the informative videos.

I heard of borderlinx and their online quotation system gives me what I think is a good price for air shipping. But have seen mixed reviews about them.

I personally prefer to get 2 or 3 competitive quotes from freight forwarders that I've used in the past and I know are reliable, then decide based on the price, rather than using comparison sites like Freightos. I would check out Westbound Global, they tend to have competitive prices. Just a heads up, at the moment because of Coronavirus, air freight is a lot more expensive than it usually is but things should be improving soon.

Great video thanks Luca, sorry to ask a question that's a bit off topic.. I've been doing a lot of research today regarding compliance with CE and realised how deep you have to go in order to prove what you have complies with the relevant regs/ legislation, When using a freight forwarding company to recieve your items from China do they check the documentation proving the product complies to sell in UK for you or do you actually have to read and do it all yourself, just reading up on electrical regs today it's seems EXTREMELY time consuming to ensure your chosen product is legal to Import and sell

Hey Luke, good question! Yep it is quite confusing and thats why generally I would recommend that new sellers avoid electronics or any product that requires the CE mark. To make things even more complicated, now that the UK has left the EU, the CE mark has become the UKCA mark here in the UK. Unfortunately no, a freight forwarder won't do that for you. Your two options are to use your manufacturers test reports and if you are happy with them, create your own DOC (declaration of conformity) or option two is to carry out all your own tests, which can costs thousands. What you really want to do is speak with a UKCA / CE firm who offer these services and discuss your options with them.

Hey, all air shipping has gone up a lot in price as the capacity has down due to Coronavirus. 'Westbound Logistics' tend to be quite competitive, however at the moment if you are trying to keep your shipping costs down then you may have to look at sea shipping. If you're based in Europe, you might also want to look into shipping by train as an alternative option.

Could you please recommend a good fright forwarder?

Hey, it will depend on the individual weight of your units, what your profit margins are and how quickly you need the stock in the UK. If you have the margin to be able to ship via express air courier like TNT then you may want to consider that. I would get quotes for both air and sea shipping from 2-3 different freight forwarders, calculate your profit margin with each option and then decide.

Hi, I have been reading that anything below 500kg should be sent by air because it is cheaper. Is this true? I plan to order 200 blazers (250kg) from china to the UK, would sea freight be the cheapest way to send them here?

No that's not true and it's not just about weight, it's also about volume. Sea shipping would most likely be the cheapest option. Have a chat with the guys over at Westbound Logistics, who will be able to help you with some quotes.
