Amazon Basics Gaff Tape VS. PROGAFF (Tape Review)

Wondering if Amazon Basics Brand Gaffers tape is worth it? In this video I break down the cost and quality comparing Amazon Basics Gaffers tape to the industry standard Pro Gaff Gaffers tape. on the surface, the Amazon branded tape may seem significantly cheaper, but if you do a little math, you'll quickly learn that it's actually more expensive (at least at current pricing). The tape's adhesive is also horrendous. Though I didn't have time to include it in the video, the amazon basics tape adhesive held its stick over more (re-sticks) than the Pro gaff, but pro gaff has a much stronger first stick and most people are going to stick this tape once or twice, then throw it away. Thats why, for me, pro gaff is the winner.

I say buy 3-4 rolls of 3” pro gaffe tape. No one out there will regret it. That should last for a while. Future investments should take you towards getting some wire ramps as well. Good video bro

I just looked on amazon its nearly double that of a 2" roll, I think id rather have 8 2" rolls for that haha. Cable ramps are a great idea and I've used them in the past but I find that they are too bulky and ugly for most uses,

@@allsoundmusicentertainment3736 yeah I did an outdoor event and as I was packing up... one of the local kids decided they would have a lot of fun if they rode their bike around in an oval through the parking lot, down the sidewalk and ... over my cable " making a nice bump sound " then looping back around.... Thankfully it was just my power cord but.... Yeah. one day I found a cable cover at bin five (a very brief Amazon's return store) that I got for five bucks. And then I got a thinner one from MonoPrice and later some more from Amazon. Just having one or two is nice to have in the arsenal and not that expensive. MonoPrice one is thinner and just gray well the Amazon one is thicker and has more capacity will be in the annoying yellow and black.

Gaff tape tip. I was working with one band that one of the members mentioned that it seems such a waste to put down all that tape and rip it up once a month when we did this event. And even though we were using the slightly cheaper I want to say Hosa or Peavey tape ( at the time it came in retail packaging and was I think five to $10 cheaper ) I was like yeah but it's also tape you can't get around that.... Or can you? He mentioned saving it which is some thing I didn't necessarily think of. He took some home and I took some home and that stack lasted me I think 5 years? So now I'm in the habit that whenever I am done I will pull up the tape and alternate it in a stack and then stick it to one of my cases. This then subsequently can get reused until it's either not that sticky or I go someplace and they have a really gross floor and at that point I'm like well I already got 10 uses out of it so I don't care if I throw it away. I also try to route my cabling near walls and avoid walking areas so I use more squares in sections and only do full covering where I have to because I'm going through a foot traffic area.

I too hate wasting gaff tape, but the time cost of doing this and dealing with re using the tape is just not worth it.

@@DJALEXBROWN it really depends on the use case. for the 4 x 3 strips here and there every so often along the cable length it's just a matter of running down the cable running peeling them off and stacking. For longer sections I could see that getting complicated. I've been doing this method for three years now but I'm also avoiding going through walkways so I can get away with the spot treatment. I forget what I ended up using a longer run for, I ended up splitting it into a few sections and just started getting into that stack this week.

Weird niche question. How thick is the tape and how cushioned or "squishy" is each tape? I ask, because some people use them on their grinders to cushion the support of their abrasive belts.

amazon is probably thicker, but that is definitely not a recommended use case

And be aware that gaff tape in the UK is considered to be like a duck tape which is not something you ever went around cables!

Technically speaking Gaff tape is in the same (cloth backed adhesive tapes) but I can't speak to what you do on the other side of the pond

@@DJALEXBROWN I can't speak for either I just ran across a few videos recently where they say that it's considered a generic term for duct tape. Yeah I guess duct tape and gaffers tape is essentially the same a cloth backed material, I always find duct tape hard to tear though and more plasticky feeling.
