Zahara de la Sierra (Spain) is located in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, at the eastern end of the province and sits on the slopes of the Sierra del Jaral. Scanning the horizon from the top of its rock, the ancient impregnable bastion of the Kingdom of Granada emerges between mountains to offer the visitor one of the most beautiful municipalities of the Route of the White Villages.
Zahara de la Sierra is the last village located in the most outstanding western massif of the Betic Mountain Ranges. Of limestone nature, it is also the highest and steepest mountain range in the province of Cadiz, reaching at the peak of the Torreón, in the Sierra del Pinar, its highest height, 1654 m. Its municipal area, declared a Natural Park by the Junta de Andalucía in 1984, contains areas of great natural interest.
The town, an ancient Nasrid fortress, which was part of the border, is located on a hill, at the foot of the remains of the castle, forming a set of streets and white houses, staggered up the hillside, of extraordinary beauty; hence it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in the province.
