Amazing simple Sci Fi wall props

Ойын-сауық

Basic rundown of one of the ways I make my shop feel like I'm walking into the Star Wars Universe every day... except Sundays. I take those off.
Parts:
- Plastic food tray top (Subway)
- ABS plumbing or PVC conduit ends
- 1/8" aluminum plate, or plastic
- Kitchen cupboard door hinge
- MDF or wood
- Windsheild washer hose
- screws/bolts/nuts
You'll also need silver paint (metallic), and exterior paint.

GREAT idea!! Just one thought. If you add some spray foam sealer/insulation into the lid, you can make it more sturdy and ridged. ;)

  • @RandomGreymane

Excellent! I love it! Just thinking about it you could fill it with spray foam to remove the flexibility. I bet you could also put aluminum tape on the inside, pray it with foam, then use a screwdriver handle to dent and distress it until it cracks and shows the tape. Lots of possibilities!

These are some awesome props. The keypad one could actually be a good burglar deterrent. Put it outside your door with a scrolling display that says something scary about how an improper code entry will automatically trigger the household defense system, and burglars might think twice about trying to break in!

For weathering / distressing the outer grey paint, try a fork or metal spatula for scratches or streaks, abrasions, and for smaller wear and abrasions, try a green Scotch kitchen scrubber pad, or similar. Also try a toothbrush or a small scrub brush and see what works best. I'd think just doing glancing spots where it would be most likely to get wear, such as from touching, keypresses, scrapes from spacesuits or cargo loading, etc. -- Love the tips. I am not handy, but I'll keep this in mind.
