As a punter i tend to bet on jockeys to win races, not horses. Many ocassions when other jocks have let me down, Ryan has been there to haul me out of the proverbial. As they say it's the singer, not the song. Brilliant, brilliant Ryan Moore !!

This reminds me of Ryan Moore's win at the Oaks with Snow Fairy. He had to weave around a ridiculous amount of traffic to find enough daylight to win.

How he got through that lot is incredible. You need a lot of luck and a horse with a turn of foot as well.

Vela Azul’s position behind the wall of horses is next to hopeless, but the long and wide Tokyo stretch run, Vela Azul’s explosive burst of speed, and Ryan Moore’s magic in weaving through traffic. Amazing win. Kind of disappointed in Yuga Kawada, placed Danon Beluga just behind the leaders where the pack is tight, causing him to make wide turns, while Shahryar is placed behind Beluga where there aren’t many runners inside of him then got startled by Mirco Demuro and Uberleben, causing him to make his spurt much earlier than he should.

One of the better rides I've seen by Ryan Moore in an international G1 of this magnitude in a long time. And how about the winner Vela Azul, who looked an average at best horse in 16 races on dirt to begin his career, winning only 2 of 16. With connections deciding on a surface switch back in March, Vela Azul in 6 starts to date now on turf has won 4 of 6 finishing 3rd in the other two, including having won the G2 Kyoto Daishoten in October and now the prestigious G1 Japan Cup.

That aside, all listed jocks have made, and continue to make a HABIT of winning in these types of finishes at the highest level. Case in point, Winston "Fanna" Griffiths, OD - the winningest Caribbean rider, has done this over and over and over.

Moore is the most overrated jockey and i'll say it again, when he gets it right, headlines galore, when he gets it wrong, and he's done it plenty of times, you lot are quiet. He's no better than the jockeys i've previously mentioned. Oh the days of proper jockeys like Eddery, Carson, Piggot etc.

@@rodneymckee8431 Japanese horses are making it almost impossible for raiders to win this race. 17 consecutive years wew. Really shocked no one is giving credit to Vela Azul the horse was ridden in a corner and fought back like a true champion. He is now 4-0-2-0 in turf races makes you wonder what he could have done if he started earlier in turf.

Put the horse in a bad position, then get it up to win, genius haha could have made it easy if he was positioned nicely

Horse racing is much better when ALL the jockeys are riding to win. Unlike in the United States, where the 'jockey worship' happens. That is why U.S. jockeys are no match for the European jockeys. The so called 'best jockey in the U S (Irad Ortiz) would not win more than a handful of races if he rode in Europe for the entire year. Yet the European jockeys come to the U S and have success.

So every jockey in the race was an apprentice then?No front runners meant it was a slow pace,they bunched up with 2 furlong to go,but the first four was spaced out from the rest at the line.Absolute brilliance again by Mr Moore .You haven't watched many races have you Mr stallion.?
