Stuck on shelf at the Goodwill store behind a bunch of glassware, was this broken wooden obelisk that I recognized as an antique Metronome. To the uninformed, it just looked like a wooden art piece you might place on your fireplace mantel, but I could tell that it needed some love and attention to bring it back to life. The base was missing as were the feet, and the brass internal mechanism wasn't working. Other damage to the wood needed some special attention and unique solutions, while the exterior finish was dry, cracked and stained. I also tried using a new-to-me product from Minwax called Antique Furniture Refinisher which worked great on this project. If only my old jazz band director could see the finished result, he might give me some extra credit for the woodworking even though I was just an average tenor sax player... Stay to the end to see the restored metronome in action!

Nice! I also use wood glue as a short term lubricant and long term adhesive.

Great job! I am in the midst of restoring a similar metronome. I find my main spring releases all of its stored energy all at once so currently trying to unravel that mystery. Hope for my project to come out as well as yours!

It was a learning experience for me too, but don't give up! Great satisfaction comes from solving difficult things... Best of luck on your project!
