The green sand moulding skills are good in such basic conditions. I know my way round a foundry very well and you'd be hard pressed to find a foundry still using these techniques, but I very mutch doubt the casting would pass NDT die pen ultrasound or radiography.

Having been involved with the foundry industry in the UK at one point in my career I can only respect these chaps who work in such appalling and dangerous conditions.

All kinds of metals went into that smelter so there’s no telling the strength of that case.
