    244 Kilos (should be around 480-490ish pounds) only, much lighter than most Harleys. Mostly due to the usage of a lightweight tube subframes the engine as a structural stressed member of the frame. But i agree with you it looks heavy AF - much beefyer than most competitors in the ADV market.

    It is definitely prettier in real life, though. But I hear you, the aesthetics aren't for everyone. Putting the headlight to one side, there are a number of things I would like to see in the next evolution put on there as standard without having to upgrade after-market. But, the serious ADV-ers love it and it's capabilities. If you get chance, watch Matt Laidlaw's video where he went into the desert for Pan America training, it is a good watch and as always he gives a comprehensive overview of the bike with his team.

    I think the Pan America front end looks good, and I am the pickest motorcycle person ever. I hate every bike made today, I think they are all unacceptably ugly and also geared incorrectly. There should be a class action lawsuit for not giving people appropriate highway gears (super tall overdrive gear) on modern motorcycles---it seems intentional to burn twice as much fuel and ruin the engine twice as fast.

  • @starseeddeluxe

    @starseeddeluxe

    Large headlights are beautiful. That vacuum cleaner front end actually has a large useful headlight. You have to compare the Pan Am to the rest of the market... The rest of the market is HORRENDOUS, see: Kawsasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, and BMW, KTM. All AWFUL. The only good looking ADV motorcycles being made today are: 1.) Pan America 2.) Honda African Twin 1100. 3.) Royal Enfield (all) 4.) Triumph (all). 5.) Indian (above average good looking).

    Even the new Africa twin has the ups on the pan am in some departments…. All harley is decent at is cruisers/baggers, they should really stick to that… the other two bikes w that same engine are the new sportster s and the nightster, same engine just de-tuned. I bought the nightster to make it into a scrambler & after some miles the overall fit n fish on the bike is nothing to write home about… I feel like the whole revmax line was a financial mistake cuz there’s a better, sometimes even cheaper bike to get.. anyways I instantly regretted not buy the Triumph scrambler 1200 instead… this is while I worked at the Harley Davidson dealership in Sarasota Fl, what a clusterfk… Harley isn’t exactly what it once was & it’s trying to rebrand by building bikes from other segments but they should really just churn that cruiser/bagger segment before it burns out due to new times/trends…

    That's actually a really good response. Personally, I love the Pan Am. I am 6ft 5ins tall so it fits my frame and rider triangle very well. I do like the electronics on it. I would have liked to see a GS style drive shaft on it rather than the chain, and add more sturdy ADV parts as standard like the windshield (and other things), maybe they will do that in the next evolution. My biggest dislike though, is the sound of the RevMax. Overall though, I like it, but I fear they may have entered the market a little late (even though in essence they were the first to do it many moons ago). Thanks again for a great comment.

    There is an audience for this bike for practical reasons. Hydraulic valves vs adjustments every 6k miles being one. The HD is better looking to me as well. For me it's the HD or Multistrada, but the HD is abt 10k cheaper. KTM 1290 is nice too and had 10 more hp, but looks worse, has worse reliability, less dealer support here in the states and again, valve adjustments every 6k miles. This idea that there aren't legitimate positives to the Pan America vs the competition dependent on your own individual needs, is foolishness. That said, I agree that they are fumbling the RevMax to an extent. I think the full 150hp should've been made available in every bike they put it in, be competitive. Look at KTM, Kawasaki H2 lineup and the M lineup from BMW. Full power in numerous styles, much more power at that. HD CVO powerplants should be the base engines for baggers/cruisers. There's no reason we can't get 120+ hp and torque out of 1900cc VTwins.
