I picked up some cheap hardwood furniture oil from a local In-Excess shop, oil based, I was surprised to see how well it restored aged or stained plastic bumpers. So thought it worth sharing. Only £3.50/L. Probably enough for 50 cars (just my guess!). If you can’t get this particular make of hardwood furniture oil, try others that you can get.
I compare it to the other product I have been recommending for this job, Ronseal hardwood furniture, which was purely oil based when I first tested it, but is now more water based for low VOC.
Why hardwood furniture oil? Because it is formulated to dry when used on furniture so that you can sit on it after a day or two. So it also dries on car plastic. It is generally uncoloured. It contains oils to rejuvenate the plastic that has aged, gone grey and it’s natural oils have evaporated.

The term hardwood furniture oil doesn’t come up with much on Amazon USA but “exterior wood oil” comes up with other probably similar products, look for “oil” (try and a test patch first, but if they are for furniture they should dry out ok):

Many people also said use a hot air gun. This obviously works for some people but it doesn’t work on fairly old plastic, as there is little oil left in the plastic to rise up from the action of the heat. It also risks melting the plastic! Or blistering the paint! Obviously best avoided. I tried the hot air gun method on my old Discovery (see the original bumper blackening video here: • How to Blacken Car Bum... ) and it didn’t work. So no comments on using hot air guns please.
