Great seeing you again at JaxCon--only this time flying solo. That table with the colored dots belongs to Joe Hanner, member of our IPMIS First Coast Chapter and a super nice gentleman; he's a Vietnam Marine Veteran who flew choppers during that conflict. He always brings a small stash to every meeting and does some wheelin' and dealin' on the side. He's given me some great deals of several hard to find models. He has the entire collection of the Dukes of Hazzard MPC lineup, which I keep asking about 🙂. I noticed he brought one of his MPC General Lee models--the very first edition from MPC where you can see the Confederate Flag on the roof. After that they re-released it several times where they airbrushed out the roof. I didn't receive any snarky comments about my General Lee on the table. In fact, I got a few compliments.

I always feel like a kid in a candy store watching these videos, and I see so many kits that I either once owned or still have in my collection and it brings back so many memories. If I feel this way just watching this on video, what would happen the day I find myself actually attending one of these shows? I just know I'd better walk with lots and lots of cash!

Hey Matthew nice video I like when you take your time and go through the vendors this particular video I saw three kids that I wanted the 57 Nomad kit the 56 Nomad kit and the 59 Impala I would have been Overjoyed to get either or all of those kids

you ought to try the odd cars. munsters coach, paddy wagon, stuff like that. would like to see you put the quality in some of those because i really appreciate the skills you have.. much better than what i can do

I agree❤ a swap meet is on my bucket list, as ebay anymore is just a joke for what they are selling. If I had to pay 200 for a kit it would never get built. I'm lucky enough to know of an old school hobby shop I go to that has ebay quality rare stuff for cheap

Matthew, I think we all need to support local hobby shop owners more. The price comparison you mentioned here versus eBay is valid, but I think we need to be more loyal to local hobby shops to help them stay in business, certainly rather more than buying at Hobby Lobby and Ollie's, and also not just supporting the travelling show vendors. I like a good price, but not at the expense of local business owners. My local hobby store owner confided in me that the big stores are selling kits at sale prices lower than his COST to purchase those same kits from AMT, Revell, etc. That's not a fair business practice by the kit marketers. Personally, I don't ever buy online from eBay sellers, I don't want to pay their shipping fees or risk the shipping damage that frequently occurs, based on my experiences years ago when I bought a lot of diecast cars out of catalogs. Good video, interesting to see the vendors offerings and show the modeler's works. I do like to keep kit values in mind as I purchase kits for my collection. Thank you for all the time you invest providing us all the hobby news. Lol, as I've said before, you need a bigger shop to store all those kits you bring home.

In theory I agree 100%; however, here in Jacksonville it's not that easy. We have Hurricane Hobbies which for me is a 35min drive one way and the shopping center they are located in has a way too small parking lot as there are other very popular businesses like a hair salon, manicure shop, dry cleaners, and more. I've had to park behind the building next to the dumpster twice. Secondly, I wanted to pick up some staples, but they were out of NATO black Tamiya paint and they were also out of Hull Red Tamiya. I also wanted one of those crossover tweezers that hold parts for painting--also out. Next, they only carry new current models; they won't have older models like Johan or Pyro, etc. Lastly, a few of the vendors at JaxCon are indeed local hobby shops (other towns) bringing merchandise to the show. Unfortunately, if you are really desiring an older , out of print model, sometimes Ebay is the only game in town. I've had to bite the bullet a few times to get a specific model there and pay the stupid extra fees and inflated shipping. It boils down to a situation where you have to pick your battles. Break down and get it from Ebay or simply wait, sometimes years, before you ever see one for sale again. I had to do that with the MPC release of the Fall Guy 1982 GMC Pickup Truck. If you want one today, be ready to fork over about $200. Even ModeRoundUp.com wants $240 plus shipping for that kit.

@@dunhill1 there are always exceptions, but the point I made was it should be the exception, not the first thought. I say buy it local first, if possible. Also, with regard to your particular nearby shop, you could call a guy like that and he could have it for you when you get there. I can pre-order new kits from my local shop, and if I need paint, if it's a brand he carries he can get it. Older out of production kits will and do come back, but as you say the wait may be long. That fits into the exception category. However, I'll also say that some of those show vendors hoard kits, making them unavailable sooner for people like us to get them at our local shops. An example pointed out by Matthew in this video was the guy buying up all the Ollie's kits he could find so he could resell them at a few dollars above Ollie's prices. I have an Ollie's near me that seldom has kits on their shelf. The in-store employee there told me a guy comes in all the time and empties the shelf of everything they get.

You're in luck; Orlando always has the Modelpalooza there in October. 2 years ago, we drove down there from Jax and out of 9 model entries I won a single Silver Medal. Tough judging but lots of great models and vendors. Just Google "Modelpalooza"" and details will result. I may see you there in October.

Hey Mathew, I'm curious about empty kit boxes, do you keep them or toss them? I love the box art and have a hard time throwing them out but am running out of space. Do you know what other builders do also? Thanks, dig your stuff.

I know what you mean. For me, the few box that I keep because of the artwork, I cut out the top of the box and place them in picture frames, then hang them on the wall. Great for folks like me who don't have space to keep the folded empty boxes. Consider that.

What glue do you use the glue i get doesn't hold the pics together?

For styrene, the Tamiya Thin Cement is my "go to" for most building. Comes in a square shaped glass bottle and the brush applicator is built into the cap. It actually melts the contact surfaces and blends them together for a strong bond, similar to the way welding metals together. For resin parts, you'll have to use Super Glue.

I use Tamiya thin cement for bare plastic and super glue for painted parts.
