Well played laddie.
You must be an amazing teacher to be able to teach La Campanella to a Grade 5 student. The student definitely nailed all the notes well. The next thing I think you should work on him with is musicality because while he hit the notes he seems to have ignored some of the dynamics and expression which is absolutely important to playing the piano. I don't expect him to sound like a concert pianist(since he is only grade 5) but I think he should still work on the dynamics and expression. Overall I think if he continues with you he will become an amazing pianist but I just wanted to point out the musicality thing.
@markusleyer3299
4 жыл бұрын
I mean, just saying... he played it at half the tempo while close to completely ignoring phrasing and dynamics, in my opinion it is not a good decision to teach someone a piece so far out of their league, because getting they right phrasing for the piece is simply not possible for him atm, working on that needs longer than just learning to hit the right notes, in my opinion one should challenge oneself, but not shoot completely over bounds... like playing Liebestraum of Liszt without the needed dynamic control would be horrible and one does not learn the proper control, when he can barely hit the right notes when the speed is already slowed down to half.
@niravpandey4191
3 жыл бұрын
@@markusleyer3299 I agree. With a year of Piano Lessons, I could play a few ‘easy pieces’ by Chopin and Rachmaninoff. But Phrasing, Dynamics and Control takes years to master, I believe...

I'm sure 2 weeks is above average, depends on how long you've been playing the piano. What is the hardest piece you can play and how long did it take? I love your attitude towards teaching piano!! I’ve been learning piano for almost 4 years now and here’s my story: I started lessons through my school and my teacher and I were working through a book to teach me the basics. We got closer to the end and there was a simplified version of Für Elise, and I played through it. I decided quickly I wanted to learn the whole piece and printed the score and brought it in. My teacher at first was hesitant but taught me the first section. I flew through it and my teacher got me through the whole thing. We pretty much scrapped books at that point. The next year I learnt Rondo Alla Turca. Then I got a private teacher and we decided to not go through books or force me to learn pieces I didn’t like or want to learn. This year (my 4th year) I learnt Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu and (much to my teacher’s dismay) Liszt’s Transcendental Etude no 1 (your performance was extremely helpful 😊). I’ve decided to learn Chopin’s Ballade no 1 next year and at some point in the next few years I want to learn 2 pieces: La Campanella and Grand Galop Chromatique. I might take Skype lessons with you for the latter ;). My teacher will help me with clarity etc but is more Jazz focused so I will require a different perspective to learn GGC. That is my story! I’ll likely start a YT channel (like Rousseau, Zen or Kassia) I the next few years too so if that happens I’d love your criticism! Thanks for reading! -Logan

They are professional pianists who dedicated their lives at the piano, these pieces that you learned (and those I also learned) through hard work, they review the sheets quickly and then after less than a week of practice, they post the video. Instead of focusing your energy on learning pieces for your channel, I suggest you continue progressing and occasionally showing your progress over time, just like I did!

Practice jumps slowly after practicing arpeggios just to get a feel for them, just like eventually you can play arpeggios at lightning speeds, you do the same with any technical skills. There may be some sophisticated lesson books around jumps and such but all it takes is to understand how they feel and having the CONFIDENCE to do them. You'll never do a jump well if you doubt yourself.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Jaden. You are very brave to put yourself out there and share what you have learned. You have a beautiful relaxed approach and it’s OK to make mistakes as well as play it at slow tempo because this is a piece that you learn many times and it gets better as you do, so why not learn it now when you are still young enough to let it percolate throughout your life. I am also impressed by the sound you get out of this Baldwin Acrosonic. (Please correct me if it’s a different piano maker). I am very familiar with this piano having grown up. with one. You can greatly benefit from a decent grand or from at least a good studio upright as you progress. The action will strengthen your hands and give you many more expressive possibilities. Keep practicing Jaden. It has been a true pleasure. I look forward to seeing how you progress.
