Amazing KONE double deck test elevator at KONE test tower Tytyri Finland

(6-5-2017) This is an insanely fast elevator at 10 meters a second! Also the floor indicator is not to scale and the buttons display how many meters below ground you are. It has carbon fiber ropes. Watch how fast it goes on the 300 meter trip! A huge thanks to KONE and stay tuned for the full elevaTOURS adventure hopefully coming up this weekend! CONNECT WITH ME!

Trust me not to read the description...WHAT...10 metres per second??? That's mad!! Wonder how the rapid difference in air pressure would affect people in a high rise!

I suppose any speed is safe when you're in a box, my comment really relates to air pressure of rising and decending so quickly, maybe it's fine I don't know. I remember watching a film on this subject. Otis were saying that they can make lifts go at whatever speed was neccessary, but it all depends on the effects of the human body.

A few years ago Harrods upped the speed of their main lifts from 2 m/s to 3m/s, but the glass doors passing at that speed make people feel sick, so they had to remove the glass from the inner doors.

Funtime Freddy According to Otis its 8 m/s in the down direction. But anyways the the first lift that exceeded the speed of 8m/s was the Sears Tower in 1971 if I am not wrong. The first lift to reach 10m/s was built in 1978 by Mitsubishi at The Sunshine 60 Building in Tokyo, with the shaft travel distance at about 232 meters. The world's fastest lifts currently can be found at the Shanghai Tower. They were manufactured by Mitsubishi and completed in 2016. The lifts travel at a speed of 18m/s. The next fastest lift in the World would be manufactured by Hitachi at a speed of 20m/s. *Twice* as fast as these lifts.

Good evening. I am writing from Japan. What happened to the Toshiba/Kone double-deck elevator that used to be here...? The elevator at my workplace, the Toshiba double-deck elevator in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo, Japan, travels at a speed of 6 meters per second, so 10 meters per second is incredibly fast... Fun fact, the elevator was traveling faster than free falling speed, 9.8 m/s, or about 22 mph, or about 37 km/h.

Lol no, terminal velocity is around 53 m/s. 9.8 m/s^2 is a measure of acceleration. In this case, the lift is only accelerating at a speed of 1 m/s^2, far from the “free falling speed”.
