I was training myself for lower kicking again as I'm 50 years old. I could do high kicks in my 20's, but, my opponent can catch the kicks as I'm not as fast as I use to be. This is a great tutorial sensei. SUBBED!

I do MMA training on a regular basis for recreational and self-defense purposes, and I love using kicks. I'm more of a kicker than a puncher, I just use my hands to set up my kicks.

What is special in Eskrima/Kali/Balintawak, whatever you call it, is that even when you are more than 70 years old, you can use it because it actually never requires much kicking. Pre-Hispanic Filipino tattooed warriors usually fought in close/tight quarters; that's why its kicks are designed to hit the enemy on groin, testicles, leg, and ankle.

Great video. I like that cut kick. It is now part of what I practice on occasion. I find practicing the cut kick both low and high are both equally important; the low is great for during grappling, the high is great for when someone tries to sneak in from the front-side 45 degree angle.

If you have any videos that have good flail techniques, please, let me know. It is such an underrated weapon, in regards to training in most forms of martial arts that I've studied thus far (or maybe that's more in regards to if one practices it too fast right off the bat, the rate of serious self injury pretty much guaranteed, except if practiced with exclusively wooden equipment, rope lacing sticks or four to five, five-inch dowels together to create the "spike ball' effect).

these are unique kicks indeed. the applications are terrific. my only critique is that you have to turn the support leg towards your target when you do a side-kick or round-kick of any kind so as to get more power to the target and more importantly to avoid knee injuries like I have.

I heard that Sikaran became a separated part of Kali, with many techniques like leg wrestling and similar. Some styles look really similar to TKD and Muay Thai, while others are more traditional looking, and also wrestle the leg against the hinges like the knee, thigh and ankle.

I cant do the left scoop kick. Back injury and untreated hernia. I can do the right. I shouldn't do either though, too risky for me. I practice with my customized cane and knifes in the forest everyday. I use the cane to strike from knee's up, and to block low then I move in using the cane hook and knife. I will try some kicks using the cane and see if I can do them at all. I know I cant do that with my left leg at all though. It'd probably drop me. I can't do stomp practice with that foot either. This hurts me just to think about it. Im getting one to two hours of practice everyday. My hands are messed up too, but I handle my blades and cane powerfully and I got footwork. Im in too much pain now, gonna take a day or two completely off.

@@kalicenter well I do understand that the off leg could have an element of surprise. I just don't know if it's as effective and this notion might come from the fact that it's underrepresented in mma so we just don't know how it would translate. It's quite ironic how it's called mma when it doesn't incorporate the full scope of combat but I guess at that point it would be a fight to the death back in the Roman collosieum. Now we have seen techniques of karate and a bit of wing chun executed in ufc which is tied to kali but certainly not to the degree of real life street tactics. I'd love to see ufc represent a fighter with a kali background and pay its respect. If you haven't checked out an anime series called Baki, it's quite interesting as it tries to protray realistic mma scenes of displaying an "any means necessary" style akin to Krav maga/kali type of combatives.
