There’s a work-around for that if you’re worried about appearances. It’s a pretty good machine for about a hundred bucks and offers a stepping stone for someone interested in starting a hobby or doing basic repairs without breaking the bank.

Also, it's marking the leather, take some sand paper to the bottom of the walking foot as it's to sharp

Hand cranked walking foot. Nice! Also good for denim and canvas.

If you use a small file even one for your finger nails on the bottom of your foot you’ll help with the marks it’s leaving. A lot of us to use the little plastic deal you use when fusing two wires together and you put a little shrink tune around the splice.. put one of those and melt it barley to get tight. Some folks I know have even cut little pieces of runner and glued them to the bottom of the feet. If you don’t do some kind of mod like that you’ll always have that range but very easy to fix. Do t put a motor on it. Most of those are for show and cause way more problems. If you can’t use a bigger needle that you want you yourself have to actually bore out where the needle goes to except a larger one there’s videos on the tube! You just have to make your set screw work and reset your timing and it will work just the same but you can even run fishing lie through it.. trust me on this one. I was one of the first when they started selling them.. good luck and God bless

I found a bunch of videos talking about how to properly calibrate the machine. There are several things you need to adjust if the top thread is breaking. There's this one guy with an eye patch, he 100% got me going. Cannot remember his name, too tired to look him up

The timing could be off. You could also have the needle in backwards or it could be the needle depth. I would start by checking the needle and then the depth. I think there is at least one video dealing with timing issues. The thread has to form a bit of a loop for the bobbin carrier to catch it.

A lot of people choose to do some work on the machines and most wind up filing down the foot, and/ or putting some sort of dampener on it. It's quite easy, and gets to be very good after that :)

I'm not sure what he's using. It could be the wax stuff. That's not good as it clogs the needle. The best is bonded nylon. You can get it in different thicknesses, but you have to get the right needle too.

Correction! Don't buy this if you don't have any patience and the ability to fix simple machines. This thing was designed in the latter part of the 1800s and it does work, but it doesn't usually work perfect out of the box.

@@steveman6789it’s not hard to tell that this machine is not for everyone. It’s a shame that it gets such a bad rap due to a lack of patience, research, or just general mechanical understanding. I have ordered one for myself but only after watching and reading up on it as much as I can. I’m sure it’ll be a bit of a pain to get it up and running and have some quirks along the way, that’s half the fun. I’m not expecting to make a living off of it, what do folks expect from a hundred dollar piece of “Chinese-ium”?
