Amazing Grace- Tim Eriksen
Музыка
timeriksenmusic.com/
Tim Eriksen sings "Amazing Grace" Western Mass. style- for Wendy and Avery M. by request.
The tune, "Fiducia," is the one most often used for this hymn in the old New England tunebooks ("American Vocalist," "The Revivalist" and scores of others).

Scott Webb My family is Scots Irish too.
The tuning is gGDGD (the fifth string is two octaves above the 4th). Hope that helps...
This touches us because it is euro american tribal music its pictish and scottish and irish and northumbrian and it calls to the marrow of our bones and brings us into the fire light, near the river where hear the water running by.

Best rendition of Amazing Grace that I've ever heard. Tim Eriksen has great talent!!
That throat-singing at the end was the icing on the cake!
Good song!! Ethernal melody!! 🌦
This tune gives the song a whole new dimension, wonderfully done!
Tim is absolutely an amazing singer!! This is my favorite version of Amazing Grace!!
So soulful, it gives me deep chills. Especially when he says the earth will dissolve like snow
man your right hand work is the best in the old time music word

thanks! The importance of the right hand is one of the main things I learned being around Dwight Diller
I've never heard this tune for Amazing Grace before. I really like it; thanks for singing it.
Tim you are one of my favorite artists. You absolutely hit it out of the park every single time. Keep up the fantastic work.
I listen to this everyday - thank you so much!
This is one of my very favorite videos. I love the tune, and the beautiful scenery.
I hope so!
Great sound, Love it
love you tim
I also like that you did this outdoors. It gives me much more of a sense of this music being rooted in a specific place than if you'd sat in a room and sung this. (Also, it's just plain beautiful there and I like to see that.)
I just love this so much ..I've listened and watched this about 20 times already
Tim, i'm really glad to see your still playing. You always did have great talent, even way way back in high school. I had alot of fun doing the lights for your concerts. Keep up the great work.
Ground shaking! Just amazing in every way! Keep it up. / From Sweden with love
our mountains are more like hills, under 1,000 feet, but they still look alright.
Dude, I love your voice - you have some mad skills going there.
you play banjo in a uniquely rhythmic way. perfect
I still love this...
Great! I hope you plan to sing with us...
Man you are way cool ...wow I listened to all types of music over the years but gave up alot as i changed my focus in life to Christ ,But you and Jamey Johnson have recently set a spark a fire in my spirit again ,thank you ...lil john el Paso tx
Tim was my TA last semester! He's awesome!
This was the first link that she sent me. Then "I Wish the War was Over". I was listening on my iPhone in the car. I was passing cars in the right lane as "Oh Death" came on. Wouldn't you know it was a funeral procession. Life is pretty strange sometimes. Again, thank you for sharing your amazing gift with the rest of us.
Just wanted to say love all these videos, they really get me inspired to sit on the porch and play when I can find a rare moment of peace! Anyhow just wanted to comment that I love the thuva-throat singing at the end of this and "Every Sound Below"!
all I can say is wow.
Great clip and take on an inspirational moment . Well captured Tim . All the best , Guy
It's an old song, most likely much before the war in origin. The version commonly referred to now is Dillard Chandler's recording for John Cohen, which we all messed with for the movie recording....
this music plus the scenery really makes me feel good inside, its like watching these videos is some kind of mind therapy for me, thanks for that! Keep up the great work man!
amazing as always Tim xoxoxox, i still have that shirt!!! :) awww :)
Dude!! That was freaking awesome. Thanks for the video.
stunning
I hope so- I haven't played there since 2010, and that was only two shows! (Stimmen Festival).
I just experienced a paradigm shift! Thank you!!!
This is one of my favorite videos.
We used to call those old tuning where three strings are tuned alike dulcimer tunings
MAGIC !!! Thank you for posting this Tim JohnH
Amazing!
LOVE IT!!!
awesome! i love that you chose that location. it is one of my favorite places in amherst ma. thanks
Oh Wow! Now that's awesome...
Big time 5 star awesome !
Thanks- yeah I use my thumb to move the tune along, though more on other songs
@abbymaeandthehomesch Of course! I'll look forward to hearing it...
See Tim at the shape note workshop coming up in Chicago on Nov 8 at the Old Town School of Music
so good
Thank you!
Wow. I only discovered Mr. Eriksen recently. His performance of "Oh Death" still haunts me. This version of "Amazing Grace" is by far the best I've yet heard.

It's a slightly older tune (at least in connection with Newton's words) and one that speaks to me too. Thanks for the note.

Awesome
(TraktoR's standing and clapping for this great playing)
Great !
@johnnyhorton2 Not yet, but I plan to record it one of these days!
Hey, man! you're just freakin' awesome! I can sazfely say Clarence Ashley, Roscoe Holcomb, Matokie Slaughter and such great musicians of the Appalachians would be certainly proud! Do you ever plan on coming down south to Brazil? There's a great a joint in Rio called The Maze, maybe you could contact them! Cheers!
I did a presentation of appalachian and civil war music for a ladies group here in Caithness recently. This kind of music really does reach the parts the other forms of music don't reach.
Wonderful performance by the one man vocal bagpipe. He also manages a bit of Mongolian throat singing here.
Excelente
That was fucking fantastic! Thank you so damn much.
Wow. Before I even saw the title I thought to myself, hmmph - that looks like the Pioneer Valley (in Western Mass). Great rendition, great area of the world.
wow, Tim, where'd you come from? I just ran across you by accident on KZread tonight when I was searching for Shape Note Singing. Love your music. Come on up to the mountains of North Georgia.
Wow, wow, wow
Tim, is this version on one of your CD's, and if so, which one? I really love this!
Simply beautiful! thank you! By the way, i think it's great that when i look up the musician, who made me fall in love with a movie, just by performing some great songs in it, is here on youtube making jokes about his hills to his fans :) i'm sorry, just like it very much! And you worked on songs together with jack white? that's just amazingly cool!
This reminds me of Tool's 'Wings for Marie'.
Like to hear you do a verse of this acapella.
Glad you like it! I'm on my way to the Czech Republic for some gigs- come on over if you're close to the border. (Details on my facebook page and website- link above).
@bkbj95 The tune you're used to for Amazing Grace didn't get added to the words until maybe 40 years after the words were written. In the meantime, other tunes were written for those words. (i.e., John Newton wrote the words, but not the tune, for that hymn.)
❤
check out the bluegrass gospel groups version of this song.. its great. tim is great to
there's a discussion earlier on in comments- basically it's gGDGD
yeah, pretty much....
@batfancy you should record it now.
see you in Jaroslaw:D in Poland
gGDgd (except there's two octaves between the first two Gs and i capoed up some (depends on the day)...
@Borussenmichel Wie recht du hast.
This is at Mt Pollux right? Tim you rock. Inspiring performance. Thanks
Overtone singing in the end of the song :) nice
Hi Tim, I'm not sure if you reply to comments in youtube but could you possibly guide me to the melody / notation for this song. A truly beautiful version. Both my daughters are learning banjo so I'm teaching them this right now while one will sing this and I play diatonic accordion with them ❤

14 years later and your incredible music popped into my head Tim. I write much better now 😌
excellent sound, what tuning you using? Great voice.
Just loved this. It was difficult to find any more information about the tune, Fiducia, but it reminds me of the tune Ralph Stanley sang 'O Death' to in 'O Brother Where Art Thou?'. I'm still a beginner on my banjo, and still finding my way around it. Could you tell me what tuning you're using please, so I can experiment with this sound? Thanks!
Do you ever do any tours in Canada ?
Sounds great. What tuning are you in? Have tab for it? Thanks!
Throat singing at end! Where did you learn to do this? Chetterdim ezhim!
you know i tuned up my banjo to this tubning and i learned the a part but ill be damned if i cant figure out what your doing on the b part
