You really need to do more ptx because Matt the new member is a true bass. He was picked by Avi as his replacement. Avi left because of family issues but he left on good terms. Listen to Sound Of Silence. Matt shows u what he can do. This song here doesn't require a lot of bass.

I’ve always felt that while their solo performances are always superb their background arrangements are superlative; simply outstanding.

Matt is the new bass. He's the one thst started the song off. Avi had to leave due to personal reasons (the pace, his mom was sick....) but helped them find Matt before he left.

Avi was a basso profundo with a contra bass register down to 4th ledger-line F#! Matt is a lyric bass. Kirstie made me cry-partly because the rhythm section dropped out for the initial part of part two of Kirstie’s solo. Avi left because the pressure of constant touring, recording and TV appearances was too taxing on him. The main reason for him leaving, though, was his mom had cancer and of course he needed to be with her. All was loving and amicable; Avi helped to pick Matt as his replacement.

Please do more reactions to this awesome group. It really doesn’t need to be done in any order because they are all fabulous from covers to originals.

Avi left a few years ago, due to personal reasons. He departed on good terms with the group, he has his own channel now. Watch his original music (Avi Kaplan): Change on The Rise, I'll get by Matt, the first guy to sing, replaced him. I believe Avi helped find him. You should react to Pentatonix: White Winter Hymnal, an early Christmas song, with Avi, they do a lot with their hands as instruments

The bearded guy was Avi he left in 2017 for personal reasons but now has his own music out which is excellent. Pentatonix has The Daft Punk Medley which won them their first Grammy Love again which is an original, they have covered Imagine by John Lennon, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, and many others. All videos between 2011 and 2017 will have Avi and from the end of 2017 to now will be Matt (which Avi helped find as his replacement)

Nice Reaction. This rendition certainly takes us on an emotional trip. Just lovely. We miss Avi but we love Matt too! Their cover of Problem and Come Along are so fun!

The video is shot at The Wayfarer’s Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. It’s just a few feet from cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean.

Their new bass, the one who had the first solo, is performing the part of a bass guitar throughout this entire song, and that is very unique. And I will say that the original bass singer is truly missed, but his replacement is phenomenal in his own right.

They sing a variety of songs. Another song that we need right now is Imagine. Bohemian Rhapsody is a rock song and they kill it in that one too. Sounds of silence and coffee in bed is also amazing. They do awesome in every song they do

MATT SALLEE (bass - vocal range F♯1-G♯5) Replaced Avi Kaplan - October 2017. Matt is an strong bass (his low range is only about 1 note higher than Avi. E1 ) The timbre of his voice is more mellow. As you listen to more of their performances you will begin to understand what a wonderful addition he is to the band.

Matt and Avi are both great, just a little different. Even though their ranges are very similar, I feel like Avi’s lower register had a slightly richer/fuller sound than Matt’s, but I feel like Matt’s higher register has a richer/fuller sound than Avi’s. Overall, I feel like Matt’s sound is a bit more versatile. He can sound like a Disney villain and/or Broadway star (“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”), or a R&B superstar (“Sound of Silence”), or a gospel singer (“Amazing Grace”), in addition to filling out the bass on any given song. Avi and Matt are both incredible, just a little different.

"The lost member of Asterix and Obelix"! 🤣 That's so funny.

It's okay to call them a band. That's what they call themselves. As others have pointed out, original bass singer Avi Kaplan left in 2017. Avi had always been kind of a low-key guy who enjoyed spending time alone in nature (he grew up in the Sequoia National Forest in California) and with his family. The constant touring and recording schedule Pentatonix kept got to be too much for him and he ended up having bad bouts with depression and anxiety. Also his mother had become quite ill with cancer. He decided to step away from the group, but helped them find his replacement Matt Sallee (the first soloist in this video) before he left. He took about a year off from the music business, during which time his mother recovered AND he managed to get himself mentally and emotionally healthy again. He has since started a solo career which has been PHENOMENAL, recording some truly amazing music. In the end, his departure worked out well both for the group (Matt has been a terrific replacement) AND for Avi, who is much happier now and making the kind of music he always wanted to make!

So you’re saying they’re no good without Avi singing bass, because something is “missing”? What?? Matt is singing bass. He’s a different type of bass than Avi. They’re different people. Matt graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, with a degree in Vocal Performance. He has extensive acapella experience, which Scott said was “crucial”. Of course, we’ve all been sad to see Avi leave-but Matt is GREAT. So, most emphatically NO. The bass is NOT MISSING. It’s just being sung by a different singer.

So good to see pentaholics pushing back on negatives on Matt. He's amazing! Avi was great for and with PTX. Stop comparing. Avi's been gone amicably about 4 years now. You can love Avi and be happy with him and his new fantastic career without bashing Matt. Someone even said Avi was a more "intelligent" base on another reaction site. One doesn't get into Berklee by being musically dumb or lacking talent. They were trained differently and Matt doesn't need to be Avi. The band loves each other. They made this decision, and Matt is truly AWESOME on the new song arrangements. Listen with headphones and an open mind to Sound of Silence, New Rules, Evolution of Arianna, Grinch, When the party's over, Happy now and all of the Lucky Ones EP and more. I hope you give Matt a chance, but if you don't, there's an old song with a refrain, "and the band played on" . . .

Great reaction. Their background parts are truly lovely. You haven't really heard anything from Kevin yet - for more complicated beatboxing, chck out some of their evolution videos (Evolution of Ariana Grande sticks out to me but that might be because I've heard it most recently). Also Daft Punk. Matt also didn't have a great showing here - Sound of Silence and New Rules x Are You That Somebody are good ones for him. You've listened to slower 'epic' songs mostly, so some other genres Rock Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf)- VERY early PTX, they formed as a complete band just a few days before auditioning for a singing competition, and this was on that competition Piece of My Heart (Janis Joplin) - same as above. Idek if this actually counts as rock lmao. They also sort of genre-bent this one Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) - much more recent, from the last album with Avi. Pretty fantastic Country Jolene with Dolly Parton (Dolly Parton) - sort of changed the feel of it, they won a Grammy for this Elvira - live at the CMAs Classical Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy - they won a Grammy for this Waltz of the Flowers EDM Daft Punk (Daft Punk) - a medley of Daft Punk songs, they won a Grammy for this Love Again (original) Pop-Rap Starships (Nicki Minaj) Can't Hold Us (Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis) Problem (Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azelea) ?????? Some weird ones that I like :P Aha (Imogen Heap) - everyone will ask you to listen to the Singapore live version. They're not wrong Making Christmas (Danny Elfman??? A Nightmare Before Christmas) Come Along (Cosmo Sheldrake) What is this Feeling? (from Wicked) - the vid can be found on Facebook. This one does have a backing band, but still a fun watch Also check out their Evolution medleys. They have a lot of upbeat pop songs too, but I'm not going to even try listing any lol

How about Daft Punk...It is techno rock if you will. cover for Daft Punk...Then they do Love Again which is a PTX original.. They do Billie Eilish, Lovely, Bad Guy, When the Party's Over. Krista Gerry, That Star Wars performance was so cool. To have Harrison Ford introduce them must have been surreal. They said that Tom Hanks personally thanked them for performing for him for the Kennedy Centers Honors. Barry Gibb happily stood to join the standing ovation when they performed at the Bee Gees tribute. They have done so many awesome things, it's pretty mind blowing when I think about it.

For Rock songs, try their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, or for electronic music, try their medley of Daft Punk songs. This last won them their first Grammy. The drum and percussion done by Kevin in Bohemian Rhapsody is better than an actual drumset. Also listen for the iconic guitar solo. You will be blown away!

You need to react to Bohemian Rhapsody. It is awesome. For a totally different look check out Def Punk. Enjoyed your reaction.

Am I crazy or was Mitch smoking at beginning of his segment? He started singing and it looked like cigarette wafted from his right side. This so n g and performances stunning. There are not words to adequately describe them. Thank you.

He does smoke (not cigarettes) but I doubt he was smoking in the video. I took it to be condensation but that takes colder weather which raises the question of when this was filmed. The same thing happened in Bohemian Rhapsody but it was very cold then.

anyone else thing Mitch looks kind of like Elvis with those sideburns and he's put on some weight bless him but the side burns the latest horrible hair trend from the 70's he's taking on . i'm kind of joking but its just what mitch does, but i do wish he'd stop trying to look like dead singers who died young its not good karma to do that!

you are right they do not sound the same without avi, he was a real bass. he gave the songs a deep sound that they needed,the new man is matt the new bass tho he is more baritone then bass.

Matt is great! He's a lyric bass, where as Avi is a basso profundo, and can go almost as deep as Avi - just a few notes difference. The main difference is that his voice is smoother. Listening to recordings of their latest concerts Matt sounds just as good as Avi when you start paying attention and can pick out his voice. He's certainly a well trained singer. He went to the renowned Berklee School of Music in Boston.

This should be sung at Biden's Inauguration.

Why ruin everything and bring politics into this reaction ?

The group isn’t a Christian group, and this song doesn’t signal political affiliation. This is the first single on a new Christmas album (We Need a Little Christmas, to be released 11/13/20).

They have a lot of music on their channel. They do a lot of covers, but they have a handful of originals. Not of the religious variety. Be My Eyes, Happy Now are two newer originals. from them.
