The chef at Pasta Eater clearly LOVES his job. It's a tough industry, especially in NYC, so to have someone speak so highly of the owner says a lot about the quality of his restaurants.

I sure hope it was worth it for Rolf’s to get that table emptied and you two on your feet. Because now over 300,000 people know which restaurant to AVOID in New York City for rude service and average food!

It's a crying shame. I lived just a short walk to Rolf's, and I really enjoyed the place. Their sauerbraten was excellent. They used to have free sandwiches at the bar during the afternoon--it was a friendly, tasty restaurant. That was 40 years ago, and it has obviously deteriorated.

So many Italians moved to and continue to move to the NJ, NYC, CT, RI region (basically the historical Italian Mob hotspots) and that has given us very quality Italian restaurants and bakeries. The culture is different from almost anywhere else in the US. We are spoiled enough that I tend to skip Italian food outside this region.

I moved to Hoboken from NYC and I have to admit, Hoboken has better real nyc style pizza than nyc. Hard to get a bad slice in Hoboken unlike NYC, where you get a 50/50 chance of good pizza.

Fun fact about the Shirley Temple: Shirley didn't actually like it! She said in an interview in 1986, "The saccharine sweet, icky drink? Yes, well...those were created in the probably middle 1930s by the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood and I had nothing to do with it. But, all over the world, I am served that. People think it's funny. I hate them. Too sweet!" She even brought a lawsuit to prevent a bottled version of it from being sold with her name!

I would only pay for the part I ate. When they take the plate away, they are taking food that you ordered and expected to eat. If not there, then at home. If they take it and put it in a box for you that’s one thing. If they throw it away they should only charge you for half. I would definitely complain, loudly!! Everything looks amazing! What is the pasta dish that they are mixing up in a bowl of some kind, it looks like cheese(?). I can only imagine how delicious the food is, I’m so jealous!😊♥️🙏🏻

I live in NYC (8 years originally born in FL)-love seeing the city in your eyes. Pasta Eater and Eataly are great choices if you want authentic Italian. I am not Italian or Italian American (I am PR, Polish, French and Swiss German third generation) but I love Italian food, especially since I have visited Italy. I have had trouble finding authentic Italian food in NYC when I am not in the mood for Italian American but Pasta Eater and Eataly have become favorites for me now that I live here. I love that market in Eataly too-so many great items even though it is expensive.

Acqua Panna's name comes from Villa Panna, a villa located by Radda in Chianti in the Province of Siena. The water there is so fresh, it was a preferred source by the famous Medici family. The villa's actually on the hunting reserve that the Medicis once used. So you know it's good stuff!

Trieste? That's a unique part of Italy! Interesting fact, it was at one point in time an independent territory as a result of a peace treaty with Italy between 1947 and 1954 as the Free Territory of Trieste. Zone A (the area surrounding the port; now part of Italy) was administered by British and American forces while Zone B was administered by the Soviet-supported Yugoslav People's Army. Each zone had its own governor. Trieste wasn't a truly independent state as its governors had to be approved by the occupying powers. Didn't help that the Soviets kept rejecting governor nominations, as well as the political split between Stalin and Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito (who wanted the entirety of Trieste). It was eventually dissolved in 1954 through the London Memorandum and split between Italy and Yugoslavia (which Zone B was given to Slovenia and Croatia respectively), and was confirmed as dissolved in 1975 through the Treaty of Osimo between Italy and Yugoslavia.

She took me to Time Square for matinee tickets to Cats on Broadway and then to Rolf's for dinner. I had the schnitzel and spaetzle as well, It was a new food and I thought very tasty. Of course the best part was the decorations!!! I'm glad that at least hasn't changed! My maiden name is Natale so of course Christmas is my favorite time of year!! For dessert, get Cheesecake or even better, Chocolate Mousse with extra Schlag. Also, since you like desserts, go to Serendipity III and try the frozen Hot Chocolate.

I want to make Spätzle, home made Spätzle and Schnitzel for you!!!! I am so sorry you had a not so nice experience at a German 🇩🇪 restaurant! In Germany, you sit for hours and eat and drink and go out for a smoke and come back and have coffee and eat and drink some more. Please don’t think all German restaurants are like that “timed”one. (Stupid) I want to cook, from scratch, for you and sit and talk and drink, no smoking, with you ❤❤❤❤

As a New Yorker of German decent it was very nice to see you try German food however there are less and less German restaurants like when I was younger, especially in Westchester. You’re absolutely right about that restaurant, you pay for the atmosphere not the food and I hope you get to try traditional German cuisine again at a better restaurant. Btw, I’m going to the first pasta restaurant you went to when I can because that looked amazing!!! Serendipity is a great dessert restaurant to try sometime.

The first (Pasta Eater) and last (Serra) places seemed to be the best, at least judging by your "I'm having a foodgasm" faces and/or "this is a religious experience" expressions. I loved the vibe of Pasta Eater, and that chef was just so adorable. If I was in New York, I think that would have to be a regular haunt. So... when are you guys moving to New York? 😉🙃

My boss took me to Rolf’s back in the mid 1990s for pork chops & to show off the decorations & it was cool to experience but in the Instagram age it has become known for its subpar food & rushed overcrowded service…I’ve heard there’s gastropub called Oscar Wilde that has similar decor with supposedly better food (more of an upscale version of Irish/English pub food like shepherd’s pie)

Australians eat like Italians...excellent quality produce cooked with perfect balance and a respect for simplicity. Please do not lay blame on us for the cake shake. There is no way that something like that would come out of Australia. Only Americans can do sugary indulgence to that level!! Sorry guys but it had to be said. Love your work and love your channel.

As a German I was really surprised when I saw the German restaurant, but then I was just shocked. Yes, we love Christmas and we have a lot of decorations everywhere, but the service and the noises... I have never seen such a noisy restaurant here. And it's really normal to just sit and talk for hours with drinks only. Also the food.... Yes, we eat Schnitzel and yes, sometimes with beans. But a traditional dish would be with Bratkartoffeln (sliced potatoes with ham and onion from the pan) or just French fries. Also you never eat Spätzle without sauce! Not like that. It is common to eat them with meat, but meat comes in the form of Gulasch (meat soup?) or Geschnetzeltes (thin strips of meat in souce). And personally I've never even thought about mashed potatoes next to a Schnitzel... I'm glad you tried a German restaurant, but this one isn't really German from what I've seen. Which is really sad. I recommend you to visit German on Christmas season and eat at a Christmas market :)
