AMAZING FLEX MODIFICATION - Honda Ridgeline / Passport / Pilot

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode, front Eibach lift springs (for Ridgeline) are installed. This would normally be a terrible upgrade, but when paired with New Age Performance strut extension on a Ridgeline strut, the combination is as good as it's going to get for the midsized i-VTM4 Honda platform. The beauty of this modification is that it uses the tried and true Ridgeline strut and shocks, which have been proven to be over built for this platform (in comparison, the fox shocks in a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road failed during a stress test conducted by Edmunds on the Race Track Playa in DVNP, which means the fox shocks just weren't robust enough for the Tacoma platform).
Watch this video to learn more about how you can increase total wheel travel by 4" per rear wheel. The front wheels also get more flex, but to be honest, right now I don't know by how much.

Yay for new Honda video! Seeing more Ridgelines on the road here in Wisconsin. In fact, the nearest Honda dealer is over one hours drive from me, and yet we have over a dozen gen2 Ridgelines and counting in my town of 8000 (and a few Gen1), despite the big 3 truck dealers in town and a Toyota dealer one town over. I look forward to adding this mod to mine someday.

I have to ask, at this point of trying to prove your AWD CUV point, do you now wish you just went straight 4x4 truck? As an owner myself of a 2020 Honda Passport Elite AWD with sights on getting out there on more trails, your investments seems to now exceed the up front cost of a similar "true 4 wheel drive." Looking for an honest answer as we intend to trade for a next gen Trailsport in the next 2 years (waiting to see if they upgrade enough) or just outright buy a 4WD truck. TY...

  • @JonDZ_Adventuring

Honest answer, the Passport still doesn’t drive like a 4WD truck. Daily drivability is high on my peoples list, that’s why crossovers are so popular. The point of the modified midsized Honda is that you can have something that is great onroad but also has enough capability to tackle some legit terrain. Most AWDs can’t handle this stuff. So the midsized Hondas are a literal LIFE HACK. Also here’s a cost break down of my after market mods: $1200 for the 3.5” Traxda lift kit, $337 for the Eibach springs. It’s not exactly breaking the bank.

...+ wheels/tires multiple upgrades as your undercarriage continues to evolve, + several different lift/springs configurations, + labor (the added back breaker for those of us that have to pay full boat on that portion). We absolutely enjoy the road drive/feel of our "stock" 2020 Honda Passport Elite AWD. She's no slouch. BUT next level trail prep seems unattainable versus just selling private party and going straight 4WD truck. Despite that feeling, I would like to ask you a DM question regarding up sizing the current stock wheels/tires. I've read (your website + YT comments) and seen all of your videos on the matter but there seems to be one unanswered question/concern that I did not take note of being addressed. TY.

@@CC_Marauder You love the way your stock Passport drives. Are you familiar with how a stock body on frame 4WD drives? Do you want to float around on the highway and make micro adjustments just to keep your vehicle in the center of the lane? Just so you can have an “easier time” on some of the moderate 4WD terrain I drive on? Anything beyond moderate 4WD, you’ll just put yourself in a position where you can more easily break stuff. With the 3.5” lift taller tires, I know it sounds crazy, and I wouldn’t believe myself if I didn’t actually experience it for myself, but with the 3.5” lift, taller tires with 18 inch wheels the Honda drives better than stock. Mine doesn’t because I have a RTT, but it’s still superb for what it is. It still rips at a stop light and highway passing power is decent.

The Bronco sport does not have a low gear transfer case, and only the badlands edition has the twin clutch rear differential. The Bronco sport is geared 17.9:1, the ZF9 Hondas are at 20.4:1. The Bronco sport badlands does have a nice traction control system though, I’d say it’s the best right now out of all the AWDs.
