I am fortunate to have many protective family members. They come to my rescue whether I have called them or not. It is humbling for me since I, stubbornly, don't like to ask for or accept assistance. They mean well, so I try to show appreciation, though I do feel annoyed.

That's not really true in general. If an elephant baby has lost his mother, it will almost not be accepted by another mother. I suspect these females are afraid to have not enough milk for their own baby. There are examples where a whole herd leaves a single baby behind. Of course most babies die then. Nature can be very, very hard. The reality is often different than many shown scenes that remind us more of a Walt Disney harmony...

I agree! I saw a video last year of a bunch of scum in India/Southeast Asia maybe. They found a baby Elephant eating some crop they planted. So they threw lit tar on the baby and mother,,! They cheered and chased them while the mother tried to put her baby out!! It is permanently etched into my heart and brain! I will never forget that image. The year before I saw a bunch of Indians who poured gasoline on a baby and we're placing vets if the mom could put it out! They are here on YT. I don't recommend watching them. They made me so angry! The Indian people and some of Southeastern Asia have abused and treated these animals so harshly in order to "train them"! This is why my kids never went to a single Circus show. They love Cirque du Solie! And I'm so glad! They petitioned their school, when they were younger, to stop going.

Hi Jay, it is not just poachers, tribal people shoot elephants in their crops. Elephants cover a lot of ground when foraging. Poaching is probably worse in Africa while problems associated with people encroaching on elephant land is more found in Thailand. I see elephants every time I ride my motorcycle outside of town. BTW: Asian female elephants rarely have tusks. They have an intelligence level comparable to Silverback gorillas.

I love watching animal herd behavior, particularly elephants’. Baby gets in the water, mom rushes over and curls her trunk under it, a juvenile comes to assist. Then - it would be the matriarch, right? - pushes her way in, actually knocks the younger one aside, and takes full control of the calf’s safety. When mom reaches out with her trunk to touch the baby, the matriarch pushes her trunk away and ferries the youngster out of the water. Absolutely fascinating.

How protective the adults elephant was to the baby elephant. They were immediately went help baby elephant to got out of the water. I guess alligator or crocodile normally would kill for. Elephant is such smart animal.

Very sensible animals. I remember watching a hundred or more elephants come to drink and wallow in South Africa. The first pool was exclusively for drinking and not a foot was put in it. The next larger pool was for wallowing and playing. The hierarchy was also evident. The matriarchs with babies first right down to the mad playful teenagers. When the matriarchs were finished drinking, they wallowed then formed a guard in front of the wallowing pool, feeding their babies while the rest wallowed and played. They were a solid line of big mummas facing outward toward where the humans were watching. Wonderful to watch.

Like a dance , poetry in motion, elephant yoga. You have be someone who study's elephants in the wild to truely understand each movement they make such as Trunk down touching ground, and backing up when approaching a more senior adult. And they constantly make small rumbles and other noise that cant always hear. ELEPHANT conversation and knowing your place in the herd. And yes they treat each other with far more respect then most humans do to each other, and actually family happen to be the worst offenders when it comes to being cruel and ZERO compassion, looking the other way when u need them. These guys will often take in orphaned baby's raising them and teaching them ELEPHANT edicat .❤👍👍👍👍👏👏👏🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘.
