What was the little bundles of what looked like straw to be used for? The combine was just cutting the top of the crop off.

+tarfoot The bundles are used for thatching so they need the straw to be left as long lengths. I expect the price of the thatching straw makes up for the reduced productivity of the harvester.

Hi , my name is marco am from México have a farm in the state of sonora in the mayo valley, i write to you because we have a serious problem with the weed convolvulus arvensis better know as morning glory or field bindweed, watching many of the uk videos i see the fields very clean and no signs of weeds at all, i know that there are herbicides we us them but stiil weeds are a constant problema especially morning glory, so my question is if over there this weed exists?, and is so how do you control it or get ridof it, i will aprecciate any sugestion from you or any body who wants to comment thanks.

Looks like Wheat to me but leaving stalks for thatching sheaf's.

TechnoMoffat Did a bit a of research and found out it could be triticale and yes, they use that for thatching. Didn't know that :-)
