Using a slab technique and throwing is not cheating. It's being creative to make a piece efficiently and also takes additional skill to combine hand building and throwing. Beautiful plate.

Some of the mayco glazes are pretty awesome - I'd recommend Lime Shower, it comes out interesting, just need to make sure you scoop enough chips out when applying - pretty bulletproof.

OOooooh! The hedgehog is so cute! And your plates are beautiful. Interesting about the pinholes related to running hot. I have made a habit of including cone packs in every load. If something goes wrong, it's too late to stick them in after. And it's saved my load more than once, because the kiln didn't shut off when it was supposed to or it underfired as the elements were wearing out. To me, it's cheap insurance and makes diagnosing problems easier.

Thanks for watching Pat. The cones are definitely useful although the controllers on my kilns do most of the work for me. Hubby thinks it's probably the pyrometer which hasn't been changed before. More investigation to do but getting there. 😁

OMG, while watching your video and hear you talk about me I screamed out to my husband: "my pottery sister is calling me crazy!" Well.....he agrees ith you lol. Nothing makes me happier than to see somebody take something from my videos and make it their own. That piece is so good! I love the combination of a stencil and sgraffito and the sgraffity through the color blocking is beautiful! Funny thing...I am working on a large vase with also the combination of stencils and sgraffito at the moment. Well, that is I hope to finish it after this Christmas madness. Thanks for the mention my lovely pottery sis! And Sissy says hello to Cissy! Your students made some awesome pieces again, in love with that hedgehog, how cute is that? Yep I know exactly what you mean as I struggle to make plates on the wheel. I’m thinking of buying a GR Pottery form to make plates.

Enjoyed another kiln opening always inspiring. Like the plates they are beautiful . Like your sweater as well here in Florida it's way to hot . Thank for sharing looking forward to more vidoes. The reason you use a triangular or three point stilt, is one from simple geometry, (which we could consider to be technical.) Three points define a plane. If you tried to use four points,you could have some major wobbles!

You may not need to replace your elements! Your kiln temperature may just need to be offset. If you add a bit of a hold to the end you may have less pinholes. I’d suggest using witness cones on each shelf for your next several bisque and glaze firings to get a better idea of what’s going on in the kiln. I can’t imagine needing new elements after such few firings. Vacuum the kiln out as well. I had a few chunks of things on my elements and it interfered with the firings. You can test each element by using a multimeter to check the resistance. That will tell you if you need to change them or not. I bought new elements and come to find out I didn’t need to! I spent so much money on them but at least I have them for when I do need new ones! In no way is anything cheating! It didn’t matter how we get something made, we are using our two hands to do it and that’s not cheating. I think it’s hilarious that you are gifting your sister her own pot!!!! Hahahaha! Love that glaze combo. Can’t wait to try it.

Sorry for the late reply. You can use glass beads but if you mix the type and colour they may not have the same coefficient when fired so test them first! Hope that helps. Greetings from a cold cold and snowy Norway 🇳🇴 😀
