    Starting at 2:12: key is to step back in harmony with the pressure of the attacker, putting him off balance. Once he has lost balance, defender has many options. Very clear demonstration.

    So can you find any video of the scenario that you describe playing out in real life? If you can't, it's safe to say that this is training for something that doesn't happen. People do grab in fights but they don't over extend and it's usually only after they have landed the first shot. When they do grab you, they grab high and it's not the grabbing hand that you should be worried about, it's what's coming from the other hand. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nodnmbGglrm6mdY.html

    @@baldieman64 if it has a video, it is probably not "real life". You simply won't find a video of a martial arts master using its knowledge in real life (and by real life I mean life and death situations) because they are clever than that. You can of course have a video of CCTV cameras in which people are fighting for real, but most likely they are not martial arts masters. However, your comment is good to remind us that this kind of video is dangerous (as the own video shows at the end). PLEASE, don't think that you will know how to react to violence by watching this or by training some of these techniques in the tatami.

  • @baldieman64

    @@diegoaragao9404 I have more than a passing acquaintance with Aikido and while I'm not saying that the techniques of Aikido don't work (they do, and can be devastating), I will say that the training methodology is useless, rendering the techniques useless. As for the idea that "masters" of Aikido, or any other martial can somehow miraculously transition into someone with invincible skills when threatened with real violence is laughable - as Yanagi Ryuken and pretty much everyone who has crossed hands with Xu Xiaodong have shown.

  • @diegoaragao9404

    @diegoaragao9404

    @@baldieman64 Maybe I didn't express myself clear enough. I am not saying that martial arts masters become somewhat invincible. I am just saying that they often won't need to use their technique in life and death situations. Masters don't do that. Just as an example: remember Mr. Miagyi in The Karate Kid: "To learn karate in order to don't have to use it". Only morons start to fight the world with a couple of techniques learned in the tatami and pretending to be "real and dangerous". These are not masters. I am just saying what I have experienced. I never saw a real master teaching to its students "wow, learn this technique, i will make you invincible. I am invincible btw". People that I saw saying something like that were surely not masters, but pretenders. About the Yanagi Ryuken videos, I didn't know him. Thanks for mentioning. I found his videos stupid and for me he seemed to be a "bullshit master" as it was stated in a video. A serious aikido school does not practice "no touch" while saying that it is a secret power to real violence situations. This does not make sense and anyone who does that is lying. In fact there exists "no touch" aikido, but it is a way of practice and not a fight.

    When someone trys to kill you is a little bit more complicated. I really like Aikido, but I'd like to see some examples in a sparring with someone bigger and who can punch.

    これ全部演武だから怪我させないようやってるけど、実戦だったらコンクリとかアスファルトに顔とか頭から叩きつけられるってことなんだよな。 関節も極めるんじゃなくてそのまま折るか、挫くか。 しかもこれに当て身技も加わるって考えたら五体満足では済まないよなぁ、やっぱり。 華麗で優しい柔の技しか見せてないけどそう考えたらやっぱり合気道は武術だよなぁってしみじみ思う。

    Beautiful technique, relaxed and nonviolent (uke is not hurt) and no force is used. Also, timing and use of Atemi is perfect.

    @@kenh.5903 i think you want to point the efficiency of aïkido. I have 3 of my friends that could use it, and 1 is blind (not joking). It realy depends on the situation, the level of the oponents... but honestly Shirakawa moves and techniques in a movie would be great to see. Best regards

    @@phd3365 You can fool yourself if you will, but this has been proven again and again, whenever an aikido master fights a real fighter, and not a designated spotter, he fails miserably. Sorry to burst your bubble. Aikido is beautiful to watch, I agree on that, but this is not applicable to real life fights. The best way to analyze these kind of videos is not focusing on the master, but on the sparring. Watch how he moves and how he 'helps' the master to execute the technique. Totally unrealistic.

    @@sergiotl7378 Hi Sergio, thank you for your comment. Don't worry, i don't fool myself about Aikido, i don't mind to convince anybody. I was just saying two different things : 1st - Shirakawa moves are very cool for a movie, like when you see stylized fight in some action movies. 2nd - I have said that aikido have been effective for 3 friends of mine in real trouble. One did Kotegaeshi (impossible tecnhique against knife but he broke the rist of one of the guys who tried to steal is suitcase ) One did Ikkyo against a drunk guy who tried to punch him, the last (the blind one) threw down, with Irimi-nage (the most ineffective technique of aikido) one of two guys who wanted to harass and eventualy rob him - So they leaved like cowards they were to annoy a blind old man. The efficiency of Aikido depends on multiples factors, like for all other martial in a real fight… (like the level of the oponents). At last, i think that Aikido is not the most effective martial art, Shirakawa has a very good sparring to emphasise his work, and most of the good fighter of mma, jujutsu… would kick asses of lots of Aikido masters. But also Aikido have historical foundations, used by the Kempetaï (japanese gestapo) for exemple, that was not to joke… and some techniques and principles can eventualy help if you have the opportunity to use it, even for real troubles… Best regards
