You can see where Shirakawa Ryuji Shihan got his love for aikido. Shirakawa Katsutoshi Shihan has incredible strength, fluidity, and amazing speed for his age. Aikido is a path to perfection, so I hope that the master will be still on it for a long time. Thank you sensei.

Strength? The uke is jumping and falling on his own accord. Sensei simply needs to point where to land, so to speak. Doesn't require much strength. Silly thing. But good for rolling around.

Amazing and yet also typical of Aikido practitioners. I lost two senseis. Spencer sensei died at 73, he was teaching class normally and throwing students the day before. Izumi sensei died an hour or two after competing in a kendo tournament. One of the great things about Aikido is that you can literally practice all of your life. I plan to still be in the dojo learning and having fun when I am that age too.

I've learned a few techniques observing Ryuji Sensei. things seem more difficult than they are really. what really surprised me is a feeling of power without exerting much force, it's a bit weird and will take getting used to, at least for me. something else I noticed people like me need to be careful, would be very easy to accidently cause someone a nasty injury screwing around.

It is amazing! Go find an Aikido dojo and enroll! Be aware, though, that you will spend the first half year or so learning how to move without tripping over your own feet, and how to fall without injuring yourself. Those skills are honestly useful in daily life wether you continue to practice Aikido or not. I can say without exaggeration that the trick of turning a fall into a tumble (instead of a faceplant) has saved my skin more than once.

@D L aikido is a bullshit fake martial art. I’ve never seen it used in anything other than movies and demos. I’ve done martial arts my whole life and the two biggest jokes I’ve ever seen were aikido “masters”

@D L I am a 3rd Dan in Kokondo Karate which is a branch of Kyokushin Karate, and Jujitsu plus I wrestled through high school, did MMA for 4 years and I also trained with two different Aikido “masters” and they never once did a move to someone who wasn’t totally letting them throw them. I trained at a place called Aiki Farms for a summer. Every day we did zen meditation and bio intensive farming and in the afternoons we would “train” in aikido. I have found that with a fair bit of luck some of the standing joint locks can be useful if perfectly timed but in a real self defense situation I’d much rather rely on basic grappling and striking to end the threat as quickly as possible.

@D L Japanese Jushido jujitsu is the style my sensei teaches. I was a 2nd brown belt. I’ve also trained with Sambo and if you think that’s bullshit you’ve clearly never fought your way out from 4 people hold you in joint locks.
