amateur's attempt to paint bare steel bumpers | HAD TO SHAVE and other updates
in this video, I remove and paint my front and rear steel bumpers. I am not a painter by any means. And this is not a tutorial. this is just me showing how I decided to paint my bare steel bumpers and how I painted them. I'll leave a list of everything I used and how I used it below.

the first step I used a wire wheel on an angle grinder - amzn.to/2MujBXU
Then cleaned the bare metal surface with denatured alcohol on a shop rag- amzn.to/30oKx3B
I used universal bonding primer on the rusty parts - amzn.to/30ehdwq
I used self-etching primer for the clean parts - amzn.to/3cEoEj3
for paint, I used rust-oleum smoke grey oil-based enamel paint mixed 24 oz of black gloss to 1 gallon of k7786 smoke grey - (smoke grey paint - amzn.to/3h0DYd2) (Black gloss paint - amzn.to/37330DU)
once the paint was mixed I reduced the paint (75% paint, 25%) with Naphtha - amzn.to/3cxlCNn
I used an HVLP spray gun to spray the paint

Man Drew those bumpers look awesome!I love that color.I have wanted to paint my XJ Battleship Grey for a long time.Would love to see you paint the whole Jeep....

Thanks Dan. Battleship grey would look awesome. That’s kinda the color I was shooting for. I think I got pretty close. Definitely going to paint the jeep this color.

I miss the beard already :( but I can see why it had to go. I love that color I think I will do something like that when my CJ frame needs to be painted.

I miss it too. I love the color too. I think it’ll look good on the rest of the jeep. Ive always love CJs. I wish I had a CJ7 or 8 to build.

Heye there, did you scrape the bumper off anything yet,? Wondering how the enamel will hold up, looking for a suitable paint for my bumper

The paint held up to scrapes pretty well but I’d recommend a couple coats of the paint though. the paint didn’t hold up to the road salt over the winter
