Amaryllis Dormancy 🥶 - Get them to 🌸 rebloom 🌸
Looking to get your amaryllis to rebloom? I provide two methods for you to get those blooms! Here I am preparing them for winter where they will chill for 4 to 12 weeks. The longer you wait, the more likely you will have blooms!

Hi, Just joined I'm a new flower grower about 4 years. Neighbor gave me a red lion amaryllis for Christmas. I have a dozen now. I grew too many to keep from seed. I'm in a condo no basement garage gets to 33 degrees in the winter. Going to put mine in a paper bag and put in the veggie drawer in the refrigerator. And I learning hibiscus growing. Have to get my plant room ready for spring.

Thanks for subbing! That sounds like a good plan!
I normally cut off the leaves & the roots right at the basal plate itself. This will expose the root nodes if you removed the basal plate before air-drying them for a few days. It's only later that I place them in the veg section of my fridge. I need to keep them in for at least 8 weeks before taking them out for a few days of air-drying again before planting up. Yes, you are right that not all will bloom though :)

I've never cut to the basal plate before. I do trim the roots somewhat. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
I, um, like your tips, and will, um, like, try to get my amaryllis to, like, bloom again. I also, like, hit the like button as requested. 😉

You can do it! 💞
Have been growing amaryllis bulbs found at the big box stores for years, but treated them as annuals. But then friend gave me double variety so I began my collection 4 years ago. The bulbs I receive from Holland have a good 3 inches of roots. As large and tall as the blossom scapes are, short roots would have made them ever more top-heavy. I say leave some.. Need good roots to anchor bulb in the pots I used. Terra-cotta and glazed pottery. To force to bloom for Christmas, needs 6-8 weeks from planting to bloom (depending on variety). Plus 8 weeks in dormancy. So would to need to pull in mid August. This year, I let my bulbs grow til Halloween then put into storage. Won't pot those up until January, shoot for valentine's day...just sharing how it works for me.

This is a great idea! I bet they are beautiful!
Most videos I've seen recommend leaving the leaves on.

Do whatever works for you. I don't, so I don't think it really matters either way.
Can't u just put them in a bag n leave at room temp?
