Trust me when I say, if these American awards shows gave BTS the chance to perform like they usually do in those Asian award shows!! Everyone would be shook, I wasn’t a BTS fan till I did a marathon of their performances last month and now I’m hooked! They did a whole 40 mins performance and I was thinking I clicked a BTS concert clip, babeyyy it was an award show

I have to disagree with you here. I think that Chloe is incredibly talented but her performances and this new vibe she is putting out does seem to be either forced or unnatural. I think it's because she wants to express her sexuality but has yet to find what the GENUINE expression for her might be. So she flounders a little bit, in my opinion and tries to emulate what some of what the other girls that you mentioned do naturally - which is be sexy and express themselves but that expression is genuine. Having said that, given that Chloe perhaps grew up sheltered or in a conservative environment, I think this is a natural discovery process that she is going through and it's expected that she might overdo things. I think in time, she'll grow into what her AUTHENTIC expression of sexuality is and that will then make her seem a bit more real and less forced. That's just my opinion. But the fact that she gives me "forced" and "too much" vibes has nothing to do with other mediocre artists, the artists that you mentioned (Doja and Normani) are definitely giving us what we need but they do so in genuine, authentic ways.

@@Gsibingo It depends on what your definition of Chloe's genuine expression is. Do you have a more clear idea of what her authentic sexual expression is than she does? I kind of doubt it. You don't actually know that she isn't being authentic. You just don't like what you see, and that's fine because you don't have to like it. If it puts you off, if makes you uncomfortable, or it's too much for you, I can respect that. Not everything is for everybody. What I can't respect is making assumptions about what is and isn't authentic to a person, when you don't know them. All you can really do is take them at face value, even when it's not what you're into. But you can't tell Chloe, she isn't being true to herself, because you have no way of knowing that. That's not something that makes a whole lot of logical sense, does it? How do you know that Doja and Normani are being more genuine than Chloe is....besides the fact that they don't get "overly emotional/sexual" onstage? You don't. You only like it more, and then, and it basically stops there. So Damien definitely hit the nail on the head. You just aren't used to seeing someone give it as much as Chloe, and you're not into it. Doesn't give you the right to accuse her of being fake, though.

I completely agree. She did tone it down a bit & it paid off. This was her best performance .

After a long time of just peripherally knowing about BTS but not really totally getting the hype around them, I've recently done a deep dive into their performances AND their music, and let me tell you: I GET IT NOW. I agree with what a lot of commenters have said, I much prefer BTS' Korean music, particularly when it was hip hop heavy and a mix of all kinds of sounds and the use of song structures that don't exist in Western pop (IDOL for example is one of the most eclectic songs ever with afro influences and an explosion of sound that is super energetic and different - and their live performance of that song is AMAZING). I love girl groups too, but there's a reason BTS is the biggest band in the world and it's not just because they're good-looking and can do choreography. Their music is incredibly diverse, their body of work is extensive and varied, thematic with a lot of meaning behind it. At first glance and from far away it may not seem like much, but once you dive deep into all that they are, you can't help but be impressed. You may not become a fan, but you'll for sure be impressed. Anyways, I consider myself an ARMY now after a few weeks of checking them out. I echo everyone else's sentiment in the comments - you should definitely do a deep dive on them. :)

That’s exactly what I said like they’re music is so incredibly diverse and deep…they’re great performers and write most of their music which is not common for kpop groups

Bruno mars deserves so much more than they give him. He is the only male artist right now that gives you vocals and musicality.

I respect your opinion & your stance when it comes to BlackPink but I truly blame the camera guy for not capturing the full choreography of this performance (ESPECIALLY THE DANCE BREAK! 😭). American award shows pan out way too much & focuses on crowd hype vs Asian award shows, they want you to see the details. My personal suggestion is watch their dance practices & their MMA 2019 performance (just to understand the difference between USA Award Shows vs Asian Award Shows). This performance was so meaningful because if you know BTS' back story & you've watched them fight, fail & go against ALL of the odds, to now seeing them win the biggest award of the night.... this performance just hits differently especially to ARMY 💜

bts DO have performances where they eat up butter is just not the most hype song and it's kind of generic im ngl, but if you were willing you give them another chance i would watch a fake love or mic drop live performance from one of their concerts and not an award or talk show because they are really in their element in concerts. also yes kpop girl groups are SLAYERS!

Chloe was hands down the best performance of the night. Silk sonic and Giveon gave vocals but Chloe just did it all

BTS aren't given an equal opportunity budget wise to perform like they are known to perform back home, here in the US. If you watch their performances at their korean award shows, you will see why people go as hard for them as they do. Also not to mention how they have basically admitted to "simplifying" their music so that English listeners can give them a chance and broaden their audience. Fans know that their English songs have nothing on their korean songs, but the fact that even with their English songs they get overlooked, just proves their point.

I don't think people will ever experience BTS fully if they only watch these American award shows. For me I say watch MMA, MAMA, Golden Disk Awards. That's where the show really is. Only BTS can pull off a 37 minute award show performance and I never once got bored. That performance for is one of the best award show performances of all time. MMA 2018 was also very good.

I actually prefer BTS MMA 2018 especially when they performed Idol. Dont get me wrong Dionysus from 2019 was dope and the sets and everything but the lighting at the dancebreak made it hard to see and some vocals were not coming out well but i mean its intense choreo but the energy throughout is there. If they are gonna see Dionysus id prefer the comeback stage. I wish people would look past than just the english songs, not saying they are bad just that they are easier to perform to and are a bit generic compared to their other songs.

It’s funny to me because bts don’t give even a third of the energy to American award shows that they do at Korean award shows. They actually go hard and put on P E R F O R M A N C E S during other award shows but when they come to America they give us cute bops and cute lil performances. I understand it and don’t blame them because why tf should they take American award shows seriously when they constantly use them for clout/don’t give them their proper recognition? But at the same time I hate it because then you have locals who think they’re ‘overrated’ or don’t give as good of performances as other kpop artists like…blackpink…I just feel like I want bts to go hard with their Korean songs during an American award show ONE TIME and people will not know WHAT to say when they do. But then, let’s be honest, American award shows aren’t gonna let them perform their Korean songs and to their full extent. Noooo, but BTS works soooo freakin hard! AMA’s just don’t show their true potential. I didn’t know about them until 3 years ago and man once my friends took me on a deep dive, they are truly some of the best performers in the entire world. Their choreography is insane, their lines and formations are insane! Their music production and vocals are absolutely insane and I’m not as much of a fan of their super duper pop stuff, but if you listen to their more Korean stuff that’s more hip hop and dance heavy you would gag, I’m telling you. I absolutely LOVE Blackpink and I feel like they haven’t gotten the influence of American culture too much in their music yet because they are not super mainstream in America and that has been so good for them! Please go on a deep dive into BTS please Zach, you will get your life👏🔥❤️

Yes! I’m not sure what it was, but the AMA’s performances did not seem to have BTS’s usual sparkle. They were fun though, and they did say they were nervous. I love them, and it sucks when people see BTS’s English singles and think that’s all they are musically.

Not a fan of BTS, but honestly, coming from a non-fan's standpoint, their Korean releases are 100000000000000000% better than their English releases. You can jam to their English releases and be like "Oh nice" but not the point where you would search for it. For their Korean releases, I would d!e for "Spring Day", "Fake Love" and "Fire".

If you want to see BTS perform they give it 110% at their concerts. But to start you off watch BTS performance at MAMA 2019. They have 9 studio albums and 3 EPs. My bad for going on a tangent. But I’m glad you are diving into Kpop at your own pace. And I agree this year’s AMA’s were good the performances I liked the most were BTS, Chloe, Olivia, and Silk Sonic performances.

Zach is you want to see an actual performance watch BTS MMA 2019 performance. It’s honestly one of the best i’ve seen and not just in Kpop. It’s just that Butter isn’t the most hype song but ofc since the AMAs is in America they had to do an English song. This isn’t @ zach but I wonder if it’s just me who hates when people form their opinion of bts, a Korean group, strictly from their English songs/performances. That’s not even their first language so how exactly would they be able to make their English music as lyrically strong as their Korean music?? And while they still do amazing performances on American award shows, they’re out of their element over here. Chloe gave EVERYTHING! She did so great! I feel like she's finding the balance between her stage personality and her stage performance. As far as BTS I agree. Butter isn't their best song or even their best choreo. If you're interested the other comments are right, any of their other songs (ignore ALL English releases) would give what you're asking for. Zach you're wrong about bts. they are extremely talented performers and artists. their English discography (3 songs) and their American awards show performances have nothing on their Korean discography and even their regular performances I highly recommend making a reaction to their 2018 Melon Music Awards (MMA, not to be confused with MAMA) performance. they performed 3 songs, one that's emo pop/rock, one that's Latin inspired, and one that's an African/Korean fusion song about self love. they can really command a huge stadium no matter what type of performance they put on but they really are able to go all out in their home country instead of in a foreign country. even if you don't love their music i hope after seeing these performances you will at least respect them as artists and performers.

One thing Americans have to understand is that BTS don't do shows for you gp, they do it for ARMYs. Their English songs were just for the fun of it, BTS' hard work goes mostly to their Korean songs. They just get to show their artistic side better. Plus, Butter would've hit way harder if the camera was actually focused on them while the performance is going on. It's not hard to just go and look up 1 performance that isn't in English, you'll see what they're actually about. I can't wait til BTS drops a full Korean album again and y'all finally get to shut up about their performances…

Kpop girl groups work harder? Don't get me wrong they work hard but the male kpop groups are a lot more versatile sonically, lyrically, and choreography wise, especially BTS. The kpop girl groups rely on their sex appeal and visuals, and are pretty much models who can dance and sing and I do like Blackpink too. But I just don't know if Blackpink is going to have the longevity with their music. BTS do it all write, produce, sing, dance, rap, act, model. The problem is they've kind have downplayed what they can do to be accepted by American audiences. Do BTS have albums? They've been a group for over 8 years, they have like 14 albums if not more and over 250 songs of various genres and subject matter. You need to watch BTS give a real performance like their MMA (Melon Music Awards) 2019 performance. 37 minute performance at an award show and it's one of the best award show performances I've ever seen in my life.

BTS’ Korean discography blows their English songs out of the water because their strength that’s their foundation that’s their core & this is what I don’t like about the Grammys forcing them into a box to do English music (& those who have just listened to their English songs are missing out & ignorent in thinking all their songs are in this kind of style bc their actually pretty versatile in terms of music) just because they refuse to recognise Korean music (xenophobia) bc they were in the states for years before Grammys recognised them for an English song (Dynamite) over Black Swan & On which I would have chosen both of those songs over Dynamite tbh hell this year would have chosen Life Goes On over Butter & on top of take advantage of the boys like Grammys did last year & imma be honest with you Zach that you never really gave them the chance you did Blackpink & Chungha I’m just being honest with you & I live for you, I will always live for you but like you’re always honest I have to be too & hope you don’t get offended by it.

& Zach bc of their label YG does not let Blackpink or any of their groups (except first year rookies) attend Korean award shows what makes you think they’ll let them attend American ones TWICE, Red Velvet or lately even Itzy & aespa would have more a chance of appearing on an American award show than Blackpink!? Like if they were gonna let them last year would have been the year to do it! I was in the same headspace before I became army earlier this year - kpop girl groups were my bias. Mainly the ot9 snsd and twice. But then Lana Del Rey dropped her lackluster chemtrails album in March and bored me out so I decided to give BTS a try. Damn fate makes no mistakes, got hooked right from the start and never looked back.

@@crystalsnow1138 to be honest, it wasn't a song, it was that one clip of an army yelling "J-HOOOPPPPEEE" at the top of her lungs. Boy with luv was the first song that exposed me though. Then I listened thru Love Yourself Answer and liked idol, gogo, euphoria, and dna from the get go

Let me just say BTS american performance ms is cute, but their performances in Korea is on another level. I fell for them for their dancing in Korea, it’s nothing like you’ve ever seen. If you have time to, check it out because their America performance is very limited due to space of the arena, budget, etc.

I loved all the performances including Butter, I found BTS performance sweet and simple like the days of old Jackson 5 vibes. This was a good night for the AMA's, I especially loved New Edition performance. Cardi was a great host too, I love her personality.

The thing about bts’s American performances, is that they’re really watered down compared to when it’s they’re event or even when they’re in they’re own element. Like if anything BTS are ALL about flashy performances and dance numbers when hundreds of people, fireworks, even real life animals on stage. They don’t get the credit they deserve in America tbh 🤷🏾‍♀️

@yassssssss they didn't have real animals on stage during the performance, it was a pre recorded thing done before the award show just to show an opening, during the real live performance the animals weren't there.

I like black pink but when it's comes to performances? they are good but they ain't close to BTS. A lot of Americans haven't seen the amazing performances of BTS and mostly their English songs don't do their performance justice but for some reasons they blow up with their English songs. If you want to know more about their hype, you need to see more of their performances from Korean shows/performances. I understand what you are saying.

BTS is EXTREMELY SICKENING! But I won't lie, as much as I still stan them, I miss when they were just in Korea because they were really hitting hard then. But they are still amazing now, too! I like their Korean music more than the English music. I will also say that the girl groups do give choreo, vocals, attitude, sass but so does BTS. If you actually do your research and watch all of their performances, you'll see that BTS GIVES IT!

They've only made 3 fully english songs out of how many over 250 songs and people have a meltdown as if their Korean music has just disappeared and they will never make songs in Korean again. And I'm with you their Korean songs and performances are a lot better and should get more attention from western audiences but they don't.

I agree with you 100% on that. They'll make plenty more of Korean songs but I doubt the American listeners will pay attention to it since it's not in English and that really sucks.

@@stargazer5780 I never said that they moved to America. I said “I like their Korean music more than their English music” which acknowledges their Korean music’s existence. It’s basic comprehension.

I feel you on them allergies Zach, mine had me damn near deaf in my right ear, it was like I can hear, but it was muffled (it cleared up eventually), and my eyes and nose been stuffy and runnin like a track star. I usually take Benadryl, it makes you drowsy af, but it does help.

BTS goes hard for their Korean award performances. You should check some of them out in your spare time. MAMA and MMA puts the western award shows to shame, it's a whole concert when the artists are done. I feel that the AMAs don't give them enough free reign on what they can do for a performance.

LOL! They were given the same opportunities on the AMA stage to perform just like any other artists and it was lackluster and at times boring... They're vocals were not strong and the choreography was messy. BLACK PINK would have have destroyed the AMA stage if they were performing.

@@rjw4159 NOPE, they would be watered down like BTS was because the networks in Korea put BUDGET & not just somthing like Olivia the other night but BUDGET!!! into award show performances, watch BTS MMA 2019 & swallow you're words & YG does not allow any of their artists to attend Korean award shows (AKMU are nominated as is Rose, Lisa & Mino from WINNER are all nominated for their solos this year) but I'm telling you now, YG isn't adding MAMA or MMA or anything else their schedules so what makes you think they'll allow them to attend & perform at the AMAs???? Like NOAM!!

I agree with the rest of the comments. If you want to give BTS an actual chance, watch their performances at the Melon Music Awards, or even their performances on Jimmy Fallon or James Cordon. There's significantly better set design and the camera actually stays on the performers rather than the audience.

I'm a BTS fan and I agree with you, especially because I know they can and have done better. For some reason they only ever do cute performances for American award shows, but chiiiiiile, the performances for Korean award shows be on crack basically.

The reason is very clear. It's obvious that they're limited with what they can do on American award shows. We've seen what happens when u give them some extra time and full creative freedom not just some changing lights on the background

Blackpink is cool, love there title tracks, but they are kind of one layered for me. It's the same, same beat and hype. There's a reason that BTS is as big as they are. They are multi-layered and diverse. Always giving something different, and as a fan, I am always surprised and MORE than satisfied. Performance, music, personalities, everything, 10/10.

Honest Question: Have you heard all of BLACKPINK's discography before forming this opinion? I know I know there aren't a lot but their bsides are really deep. You Never Know for example is really heartfelt and sincere. I also have heard enough about YG's treatment to know that they kneecap the girls as artists. Jennie had a notebook of songs that YG stole and made disappear. I understand they can appear one-dimensional to non-fans but that's definitely YG's doing. I wonder how they would better thrive under BH or even another company.

@@ijm1261 they are still not very diverse imo (this coming from someone who has listened to all their songs). It’s not even BLACKPiNK fault. I blame teddy. Lmfao. They need a new producer or let the girls produce. It’s the same beat, the same vibe. Always the same. It’s so bad to the point you can find countless other producers make ‘black pink like’ beats and songs. I’d event prefer their concert songs- at least it’s got some rock and roll elements. They can switch the genre as many times as they want but the problem is every producer has their own footprint. I’m tired of only listening to teddy’s.
