Am I Too Old To Get a College Degree and be a Doctor? | OldPreMeds Podcast Ep. 287

Ойын-сауық

Today our student is worried that they are too old to start going down the premed path. How old is too old for medical school? Will medical schools have a bias against him because of his age? We answer these questions on this weeks OldPreMeds!
First, be sure to check out mappd.com for Mappd, a premed app that's changing the premed landscape, especially for nontraditional students!
As always on the OldPreMeds Podcast, our question this week is taken from our nontraditional premed forum. (Ask your own questions at premedforums.com!)

Great video! I’m a 35 year old, mother of three teenagers and I’ve just recently restarted my journey toward becoming a doctor. It’s a long way down the road still but it’s time to live a long neglected dream of mine. Thanks again for advice it’s been very helpful.

Bro there was someone in their late 50s in my med school! 33 is young compared to that.

College has done WONDERS for me. I was frowned upon, and looked at as someone who would amount to nothing. I had no parent or knowledge how the world worked. However college changed my life for the better in many ways!! Everyone has different circumstances but college helped mine 🙌🏿

Go for it! I started this journey at 28 after getting 2 F’s back when I was 18 and not taking school seriously. I’m now applying this upcoming cycle and currently studying for the MCAT to take in a few months. I graduate later this fall and will be 33. I was in the same boat worried about age and timelines. The MCAT seemed like a point I would never get to let alone actually applying, and here it is! Like Dr.Gray said, you don’t want to regret it later on in life. If you truly want it, go all in and don’t stop.

I’m not trying to be a doctor, but I am in a Science degree, which for me is a big deal because I am a part time artist, and my math skills were always a massive source of anxiety for me. But I refuse to give up. I’m almost 27, I’ll graduate when I’m 30, and that’s ok!

You are so right on the money!!! I have been having recent hesitations and actually started to look at other quicker professions too get into, but at the end of the day it just doesn’t feel authentic for me choosing something over that I have been trying to work for months and years.

I have NEVER met an 80 year old that regretted their debt and the chances they took that didn’t work out. I have met COUNTLESS that BEGGED me to chase my dream and risk it all for that passion.

Wow so happy I found this video. I am 32 years old with only a few college credits to my name. I am a truck driver and work 60 hours a week at most on nights. Oh and I just bought a house so I have to work. But I want to become a physician weather it’s in my 40s or 50s. This gives me the courage to pursue that dream.
