My sister’s boyfriend once left a lighter in his pocket and it made it to the dryer and almost exploded. No way I’m not checking someones pockets before doing laundry. If you don’t want your pockets emptied, do your own laundry.

@@smileylaury13 My husband would be the same at first, like he would see the laundry done and ask if I’d find whatever thing in his pants, and I would always say “I dunno, why would you leave it there when tossing it into the hamper?” And he would say something along the lines of ‘you should always check the pockets in case I forget’ to which I would reply ‘maybe it’s not important then, since you forget’. After a couple discussions like this he eventually learned to empty his own pockets BEFORE putting dirty clothes in the hamper. I feel as adults we should be responsible for our own sh*t. I’m trying to raise my kid to not be used to me picking up after them, so why would you, my grown-ass husband give me more chores.

Ran into a guy at work, and he had little kid lunchboxes. I complimented them, and we had a little chat about it. He carries them around because they're fun and they make people smile. Yeah in my country (the Netherlands) colourful socks have become a pretty common thing for workplace attire, there’s even a few sock brands that specialize in it. And it sounds like the work environment of the poster is pretty toxic and childish. Laughing at someone is never okay imo, not even behind someone’s back.

Since it was the first time she met his parents and they aren't together for that long, you can't really say what could go down. Ya, trying to change a pet person into loving their animals less is a quick way to ruin a relationship. And in reverse, trying to convert a person who doesn't like animals into an animal person will just cause resentment. You can make compromises but pinning a relationship on someone sacrificing something intrical to who they are as a person will never work out well. Lol, I probably will never date someone who doesn't like animals. Just won't happen. They are a part of me. My BFF is terrified of dogs but we have grown as people to respect each other's boundaries and she doesn't live with me. My partner who would live with me needs to be ok with my pet sometimes sticking their butt in your face, eating your food, and sometimes destroying something. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If you can't eventually brush that off, we as people just aren't compatible to live with each other.

But I think if you have your person and you wouldn't have fun without them and you want them to come with you to my wedding, you definitely should be able to. And if the poster didn't want people she didn't know personally at her wedding maybe she should grab a dinner with her cousin and their person in order to meet them and maybe they would feel differently about them? 🤷🏻‍♀️

As someone from Germany I find the bride and groom somewhat reasonable, tbh. Here it is not standard practice to get a plus one. You get an invitation and the people on the invitation are invited. Why should people that do not know me, but know my boyfriend, pay for a plate and have a stranger present at their moment? We are invited to 4 weddings this year (all his friends - he is 7 years older), 3 of those couples we've been out with regularly. Only one couple I don't know. I was explicitly invited too, and was a little surprised, but am happy to come. But even though my bf and I have been together for 7 years, it would have been totally okay (and normal) for me not to be included. I don't know them, they don't owe me an invitation and my boyfriend is his own person outside of our "couplehood". Maybe if we were married that would change things slightly, but even then... if there were financial or spacial (venue capacity) restrictions, I think it would be totally okay to just mention that in the invitation. Weird to just expect strangers to want you there for their wedding... I suspect it might be a cultural thing. We might just be a little more guarded in general over here.

Interesting, it must be a culture thing bc for an average wedding here in the US “plus ones” are pretty common. Usually it’s not for some random date or brand new partner but if the wedding has the room and budget a lot of people in a long term relationship will get to bring them as a plus one. The European option certainly sounds cheaper lol but sometimes it’s a weird fun time being at a wedding where you don’t know a lot of people as a plus one

Also if it's your special day, surely you want to spend it with people you know... I do think she becomes an AH when she's not willing to meet the guests, like, go out to dinner with your cousin and his fiancee (?) Yeah, like, having a "no plus ones" rule in general (as in, only people invited can come) isn't bad in itself. There can be financial reasons, venue size restrictions, and also you might feel compelled to invite some people who you don't know well because, family, and then not trust them not to bring someone horrible. Also some people might find it very stressful to meet a load of complete strangers, like if people bring "dates" who they may not even know well themselves. However, if you know someone has a partner they've been with for a reasonable amount of time (like, I'd probably just say if they're together when you send the invites and you know about them, since invites generally go out some months prior to the wedding) it's definitely polite to invite them along too if you can afford to. Personally, we had some evening guests so if people had new partners we told them they could invite their partners to the evening too. And for a couple of people we thought might not know many people, we gave them unamed plus ones. Also this bride is literally basically saying "I don't like your partner so they're not invited". Lol

I think with the tattoo one, it’s a kid losing his idealistic version of his parents. Growing up, usually, kids put their parents on a pedestal and think highly of them. And as we get older we realize they are humans and can make mistakes just as easily as we can, but we still generally hold them to a higher standard. Even as an adult when things don’t go well you turn to your parents. So I think he just had this idea of who he believed his parents were based on how they raised him. And when that idea was shattered he didn’t really know how to handle it. I think it has less to do with him not having some kind of control over the decision and more to do with the fact that he felt blindsided by the whole situation. His mom getting a tattoo was probably the last thing he ever expected, so to see it happen and seemingly out of no where must have rattled him. But even so, his gf is right. His mom is a grown adult and can make decisions for herself. And if anything he should be happy cause, 1. He knows that if he ever wants one they won’t give him kickback or flack for it. And 2. He knows they’re ok with him dating someone with tattoos.

Imagine if your mom yelled at you when you tried getting a tattoo as a teenager and then, 20 years later, she sees tattoos on someone else and immediately gets one herself. As a gay man, I experienced my mom being annoyed at my sexuality, but when she saw other gay guys she'd be like "oh look, he's gay, it's so cool that he's brave enough to be himself!". I think the feeling must be similar.

Lol I think it’s sweet. I think caring for a pet together has been a bonding experience for us and I feel even closer to him because of his acceptance of the kitties. It’s not just about the cats. His behavior shows me the empathy he has for other living creatures, and the respect and care he shows them warms my heart. We didnt invite cousins to the main part of our wedding as they all had plus ones and kids and we did not want a huge ceremony and could not afford to provide for them all at the wedding meal. We did separate invites for the buffet and party in the evening as that was cheaper, and we did not mind that part being less intimate. I think that was a good compromise for our budget, our desire for a smaller ceremony and not hurting peoples feelings. Weddings cause so much agro 🤣

In regard to tattoos, how long it takes it depends on how experienced the artist is and the size of the tattoo--at least in my experience as a tatted person, not an artist myself. My favorite tattoo is probably the most detailed, with delicate line work and shading, and it's beautiful! The artist was incredibly skilled, and it took him only about an hour. It's totally possible the guy and his dad went outside and just got to talking, and before they knew it an hour or so had passed. What I'm getting from the post was that the tattoo wasn't huge, and it was probably dainty (just assuming so because it was flowers and the mom's first tattoo). So it's very possible to complete a tattoo in that time :)

I've always understood the general wedding plus-one rule to be that spouses, fiances, and long-term partners get an automatic invite, and everyone else is on a case by case basis (socially recognized couples being a single "unit") If you want to give everyone else a plus-one, that's great. If you want to keep it to familiar people, that's fine too. but those "units" have to be invited together.

They still decided to invite their close friend's partners and to the ones that they didn't invite they explained that they were on a budget and really wanted the ceremony to only include people that are close to them (this applies to family members too). Everyone was understanding. My boyfriend didn't get invited because we've only been dating a couple of months and I didn't get mad about it, I think it's completely understandable.

The tattoo story had me rolling!! y'all what the hell? also the size of the tattoo had to do a lot with the time it takes to create it, stencil it etc. That dude is a grown ass child. If a parent wants a tattoo then a parent gets a tattoo, same goes for any grown adults that wish to get one. Plus I think it's sweet that the mom go it from the girlfriend and not from a stranger,... It bonded the GF and the could be mother-in-law and he knows that its safe and nothing should go wrong with it.

One thing I’m concerned about that I haven’t seen anyone else mention in the tattooed gf story is that the guy asked her to cover up her tattoos before meeting his parents…does that not seem like a red flag to anyone else? If her tattoos are what he likes the most about her as he so claims, then why would he ever ask her to cover herself as if her tattoos are something to be ashamed or embarrassed about? And what, does he expect his gf to wear long sleeves/pants for the rest of her life just so his parents won’t see?? Idk, that just doesn’t sit right with me. If he really cared about her and the way she artistically expresses herself, then he should have wanted to present her to his parents just the way she is, in her full authenticity :/ I agree with Ben & Simply in that maybe he has some control issues and he wants to be the one who dictates when, where, and to who the gf gets to express herself with her tattoos. He should be happy his parents and his gf get along! I think his parents accept her more than he does 😂

It could also just be a thing to protect the girlfriend from judgment. This story was wild, but usually conservative parents are conservative parents. Sometimes it’s best to maintain a cordial (but not close) relationship with extended family and occasionally covering up tattoos can be part of that. It is a thing to navigate together as a couple. The problem is this young man’s language, ‘telling her’ to cover up. It should always be a choice, not a command.

  • @regular_bee

    @regular_bee

I kinda get him tho (I interpeted it as if he asked her to wear that clothing, not demmanded). He certainly has no right to dictate what she wears, but in this case it was for safety reasons. He thought that his parents were very judgemental and conservative, and probably he didn't want any confrontation. Maybe he wanted to protect his gf from negative comments, one never knows how accepting or mean other person will be. So I get how he kinda warned her about a possible negative outcome, and suggested her to change clothes to avoid that. Again, I interpreted as if he told her something along the lines of "My parents are very conservative and don't like tattoos, please wear long sleeves so that they don’t make any negative comments and you get along better", kinda asking but not demanding

okay i’m listening to this as i’m doing my laundry. tuesday is my day off and i usually clean the house while listening to this pod. the first one about the cat rubbing on the toothbrush made me think my cat would never do that. the pod keeps going and i’m listening to the tattoo one and my cat meows to go into the bathroom. my cat loves to drink sink water and never passes up a chance, so i let her in (we keep the door closed because she jumps in the tub then walks around the house with little wet paws and leaves toe bean prints all over). she jumps onto the counter and i happened to leave my toothpaste out and she immediately starts rubbing her face on it. apparently it’s not far fetched to think she would rub on my toothbrush. my cat is a rescue, i used to work in vet medicine and my mom is a vet, and i kind of happened upon her. most people in vetmed have “messed up” animals because we’re good at caring for the ones with strange health things. my cat happens to have chronic rhinitis, and she sneezes snot globs a couple times a week when she has a sneezing fit. she’s also quite greasy and doesn’t groom herself because her nose is all messed up (that is the reasoning the feline internal medicine specialist told me-i got great discounts so she’s had nasal flushes and a CT and a rhinoscopy, and the specialist says there’s nothing we can do for my cat’s sneezing). many people find it very gross, but after seeing the gross things other pets have going on, i don’t think a little snot is all that gross. she sleeps on my pillow with me, and lots of people are horrified that sometimes she sneezes on me or the sheets and she’s sometimes a little smelly. but ultimately i wash my sheets very regularly, and i had her tested for fungal infections and stuff and they were negative so i know her condition won’t hurt me or anybody else. my partner also worked in vet med for a while and he doesn’t mind it either. though if he did he’d be sleeping on the couch-nothing could happen that would prevent my cat from sleeping with me in my bed because that’s what she wants and she gets what she wants. just cat owner things. lol.

I do realise it’s different when it comes to kids, but he was reserved and sort of awkward and the socks sort of helped people warm to him, as well as worked as an icebreaker, even with the other teachers. He had a pair of broccoli socks, and they were sort of infamous in our class, every time he wore them, people would go “Broccoli socks!” and cheer. I really don’t understand what the big deal was, even if the environment was slightly more professional than a school setting.
