    I don’t ever weld aluminum, but if I do, your video gave me good insight, and good practices as a baseline to follow so thank you.

    When I use double pulse, the beads are nicer and it reduces the heat of the aluminum plate. Thank you for what you have provided. I enjoy and benefit from your work as an expert who explains the most important negative points that we encounter. Especially for beginners

    When you're production welding on aluminum a pulse welder will just get on your nerves if h You're an experienced welder When You'remaking 25 foot welds without stopping you're going to want that constant current that a transformer provides the only thing l can say about pulse is you can weld downhill but the welds don't look as good in the flat is so much better A pulse welder just makes a c quality weldera b quality welder which isn't saying much. I had to use one when they scrapped our transformer machines and l frickin hated it

    The one thing that no other video on this topic has addressed, is that the metal heats up, increasing penetration as the bead continues. That is what has caused my mind to not work, ending with me selling off one welder, buying another one thinking that was the issue when it wasn’t. I am on welder 3 now and I feel like I have what I need for this. I can’t thank you enough!

    I typically use scrap to dial in the machine, human error will always be a variable in welds. running on scrap can ensure you have the right wire speed and heat input for the thickness you’re welding. My favorite method of MIG welding aluminum is the whipping motion. It leaves MIG welds looking like stacked dimes. Mainly only do it because i love the way TIG welds look.

    Reminds me of those old beat up spool guns. Pulse is far superior, but you did a decent job with that process. I would keep the angle to a 5-15 degree...

    The old saying, practice, practice, practice, is especially important with aluminum since it’s so sensitive. Unfortunately, I only weld aluminum around every six months, so I’ve never developed a really good feel for it. I’d rather weld magnesium and I don’t like welding that too much.

    Great video sir. I would love to see your technique on aluminium plate welding. We use 3mm plate with an single square joint, single side welding with a bend test afterwards. It's really hard to not: burn a hole in the plate, restart without excessive weld metal, have perfect penetration and not destroy the materials structure for the following bend test. No one that I can find has a video on this (or similar) welding, maybe you're the to fill that gap. Thank you as always for the great quality sir.

    Thanks! Without some way of varying the amperage along the length, that would be very difficult because of how much aluminum heats up as you weld it.

    Is the black soot common when mig welding aluminum?

  • @TimWelds

    @TimWelds

    Yes, it's very common, particularly if you are using 5356 filler metal. It's not necessarily a problem, but it can usually be eliminated or greatly reduced with the right setup.

    No pulse, just “good old regular” manual program, one knob for wire speed, one for voltage, no pulse nothing synergic, just trying to imitate the Vulcan with a spool gun. Any “regular MiG welder” could get you those results

  • @TimWelds

    @TimWelds

    @azah57 Like Peter said, it was just run on DC. Normally, I would run pulse on 1/8" material since that machine does it very well. Honestly, the remote amperage controller on the HTP is equally beneficial, if not more to allow a hot setting to be used at the beginning and cool it off later in the weld. I was just trying to illustrate what can be done with a basic setup on stock settings and show how technique can make a big difference in the result.
