Altra Provision 8 First Run Review | We test the zero drop stability shoe

Спорт

The Altra Provision 8 takes the brand’s zero drop design and includes medial GuideRail technology to add support and stability. There’s an Altra EGO midsole foam, designed to balance comfort and responsiveness, and it features Innerflex grooves to improve the natural feel and flexibility of the shoe.
Like all of Altra’s shoes, there’s a wide toe box to allow your feet to move around freely without restriction, and a secure midfoot to provide a locked-down fit. The upper is made from an engineered mesh for comfort and breathability, while the refined heel collar ensures that the foot stays in place with a soft padded design.
Tom has taken the shoe out on a first run to see how it performs.

Nice review. The shoe looks really nice too. I wish zero drop shoes were tested by runners used to them though. Many zero drop shoes get critiqued for straining the ankles or calves, but that's usually only because (as you said) runners aren't used to them and haven't appropriately transitioned. The first time I ran in zero drop shoes I couldn't walk for 2 days because my calves were on fire (I overdid that first run) but now I wear them all the time with zero problems. My ankles also have way more flexibility now.

Agreed. Another observation, fell/mountain runners might find switching to Altra pretty seamless. I think running up steep inclines targets the calfs and a lot of fell shoes are low drop anyway. Always find Altra feel very ‘normal’.

I find them to work pretty well for runners who have been in 5 mm or lower drop. I have been running in altra trail shoes so it was easy for me to hop into these. No stability issues here , definitely not a tempo shoe.

Thanks for the good review. I’m recovering from plantar fasciitis on my left foot, the Altra Provision 7 has been the only shoe that I can wear to walk around in comfort with the minimum pain. I’m looking forward to trying the new Provision 8 which I think feels a bit wider in the toe box than 7.

Decent shoe and it surprises people how well it works.

My Altra Paradigm 6 is hands down one of my favorite shoes that I have ever run in. Unfortunately the outsole just didn’t last at all. It wore down to the midsole somewhere around 50-60 miles. I can’t justify buying another pair of Altras until I hear they are making more durable outsoles. I’ll be watching out for a follow up video to see how it lasted.

You can see in the video, you are not landing heel first. On higher drops are you hitting heel first?

Currently switching off between the FWD and Vanish Tempos. I’m thinking of adding the Via 2 as a recovery day shoe though the Topo Atmos looks tempting
