Yen Estelles thank you so much for this video. I was stranded last night in a parking lot after a concert. Not fun. Thanks to KZread, I found out how to release my shifter from park, and thanks to you, I was able to repair it today and with no extra parts lying around. It was a little more difficult to remove the panels than your video, but I got to it. There were parts all over my backyard, at some point I thought oh my I hope this fixes the problem. It did. While I was at it, I fixed the light that was burned in my console under the P R N D little sign, it was driving me nuts. I called the dealer for the part number of the light bulb replacement, the guy told me they don't repair that part, they sell a new console, I just hung up. There are plenty of video on KZread that shows how to replace the part, I just didn't know the part number. I took the bulb at the car parts store, with my console parts on the passenger seat and the white plastic knob gear thingy sticking out and they found me a matching light bulb $5 for 2. Yeah, all fixed!!!! I owe you a beer or a nice bottle of rum.

Mr. Yen Estelles thank you so much for taking the time to make this video you are truly lifesaver. My 2013 Nissan Altima with about 94,000 decided to do this to me right out of the blue. The dealer wanted to charge me $600 plus tax and that was just for the part not including the labor. I’m pretty mechanically inclined so I watched your video very carefully and sure enough that was the exact issue that was taking place with that little white switch under rather the gear shifter. Once again Thank You for helping others. I’m looking forward to watching more of your very helpful videos. Kudos !!! Way to go !!!

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima with the same issue. I followed the video step by step, pausing and rewinding when I needed to. Spoiler alert, it worked GREAT and the vehicle is working again. Thanks so much for the video wouldn't of been able to disassemble that console without it. With that said, I went to the dealer attempting to buy that switch and found that shifter assembly is NOT SERVICEABLE. You need to buy the entire assembly for $530 and change. The parts guy sold me a brake pedal switch and recommended I speak with a service advisor. They were no help and acted like they have never seen this problem before. I am so disgusted with Nissan this has been one of many other issues with that car. I bent the tab forward on the shifter switch and reinstalled everything and it works now. Thanks again you saved me a lot of time and broken plastic parts.

Thanks to your instructions for getting the console out of the way, the switch was fairly accessible from the driver side. I was able to pop the switch out and make the repair without removing the shift assembly or cable.

Great step by step video and you saved me time and money. I didn’t know where to start and was going to take it to a mechanic until I came across the video. Probably took me one and a half to two hours to do the whole thing and put it back together. Thanks you!

Excellent video, thank you so much for posting it! Amazon and Walmart both show a replacement switch kit with harness and OEM plugs to fit for 2013 through 2017 Nissan Altima. $50 ! if the original switch has not failed, bending the tab on the switch up as shown in the video should definitely fix the problem but not sure for how long...I have used that repair technique for over 40 years on various types of machinery and devices. It is definitely the most cost-effective solution LOL. This project is enough labor time that I think I will go for the new switches and improved positioning brackets that might prevent the problem from ever happening again.

Amazing tip! Also.. if you are doing this on a 2015 Pathfinder or similar.. you only have to remove the center console with the cupholders etc, not the rear vent covers or any side panels. The small metal tab that you bend is visible in the gap on the drivers side, with 2 small hook tools or similar you can bend it while its still in place!
