Alternative printing Gumoil Printing

This video is about the Gumoil printing process which is a relatively invented process. It was invented in 1990 by. the late Karl P. Koenig .
This is what he said about this process:
"Each gumoil image is hand-crafted after coating a sheet of 100% rag paper with sensitized liquid gum arabic and contact-exposing it to a transparent or translucent positive under intense ultraviolet radiation. The coated sheet is then developed in water, thoroughly dried, and later rubbed with a dark pigment such as lamp black oil paint.
Excess pigment is wiped off and the paper is briefly dipped in a bleach bath to oxidize away (etch) some of the light-hardened residual gum arabic. This leaves the next tonal region of the picture open to a second pigment application."

    How long do you rinse your print after exposure? Cold or warm water?

  • @AnaloguePT

    @AnaloguePT

    10 ай бұрын

    I use room temperature water which is about 28C here. Just rinse until whiter area (the shadows on actual image) are almost paper white.

    How long time the exposured print should be soaked? Do you use cold water?

  • @AnaloguePT

    @AnaloguePT

    You can change the water or use running water. Develop it until the shadows area(dark area on transparency that is not exposed to much UV light) is almost as clear as the paper white.

    best on good cotton paper around 300gsm. it should be able to take the long soaking and washing and not break apart. Arches Platine is a good one.

    i got my friend to help me print. I believe for gumoil process, any decent inkjet print will do but the key is to use a good transparency like the Pictorico .
