This is exactly why I'm sticking with UniFi.. it's not perfect but at least it's under my control.
I use the Aruba Instant On range, similar setup with me need to have a controller which helps massively. The good thing with them is that it is based on the enterprise Aruba Networks kit, just a lower cost version so the support is really good and price is similar to the Ubiquiti’s of the world
This feature exists since ages.. it's called multiple pre shared key, mpsk, dpsk...etc every enterprise vendor has a name for it. That said, it's amazing to see it in an entry level product.
Great video! We are really impressed with Alta and their new products.
Looks good for a new company but you only really need the controller you mentioned for external access, otherwise all access points are pretty much plug and play with the same web based settings page for management locally.

very similar to the open-mesh brand that is longer but the aps and cloud portal still work just fine just cant upgrade the hardware. glad someone else came up with this.. cant stand paying fees / having a controller.
He Alex can you please create a video for loadbalancing on amikrotick or tplink to combine band width thanks
Does the Hotspot setting have a splash page for FB and Insta or does it have pay for access guest network with credit card or Paypal billing?

for speed limiting - is that a cap on the entire connection? i.e. if 5 devices are connected with the same password, and I set that passwords connection speed to 20 down / 2 up - then all devices connecting with the same password have to split that 20/2 connection ? OR does it give each device connected with that pw a 20/2 connection per device, and 5 devices would end up using up to a total of 100 down / 10 up ?
Nice one Alex keep up the good work thanks
The trouble with new wifi toys right now (especially considering the size of investment wifi 6 represents) is wifi 7 is just around the corner. I'm even holding off on installing multimode in my house because of the implications of wifi 7 until we get some real-world numbers.
unifi doesn't need a controller in it's stand alone mode. The controller you can use a raspberry pi or if you already have a server you can run the controller off of that. Yes these controllers would probably cost something but either not that much or it's on something that you're already running.
This is quite Impressive for a system like that

Alex I always like your videos...but in this one im not sure your fully comparing apples with apples. Have your unifi speed tests been conducted via a Unifi controller that doesnt have security throttling enabled, like IPS, which would throttles your WAN speed? Failing that the devices do seem a good way to bypass a few hundred pounds on a controller if someone else offers it as part of the price.

12:40 Of those 4 access points, 3 are using the same channel.
Needing an online account and an internet connection for setup instantly makes it a worse solution than others like Unify. Being able to install a controller locally or host your controller for free locally makes security miles better and makes setting up and managing possible when your internet connection goes down.

Although I enjoy these videos, getting excited over having the same SSID and different passwords show lack of experience with enterprise wifi solutions. As a qualified professional, I've seen this on many other vendors like Aerohive networks (Extreme networks they're now called) gear.

Thanks forid200. You’re right. The feature certainly isn’t new in the market place. Just what we are doing with it is. There is so much more behind Alta Labs access points. We would love to have you take a look at everything our platform has to offer.
@paddyd9615
Жыл бұрын
The feature is also the opposite of a benefit if you can't split the SSIDs into separate networks the same as Unifi. Imagine connecting to the SSID then wanting to switch to the other network, you would have to forget the network and then enter the password every time you wanted to switch. Seems more like a gimmick
@chaseharrison5869

@@paddyd9615 You can have multiple SSIDs per site. The password ideology is to help clean up broadcast traffic. I don’t see the value in these if you’re in the Unifi ecosystem, but would be useful in other scenarios. My Unifi APs already get the speeds that were shown in the video. Single SSID is nice, but I would rather have one management software solution than two.

Because why aren’t you using Ubiquiti UniFi 6 Pro Acces Point Wifi 6 Because that’s more of a comparison…….. because if you use in a long-range AccessPoint it’s going to be using 2.4 not five or six Maybe you are using them access point set forgot to mention it , and it’s not true, you can set up a ubiquity access point, and not have a cloud key /….. I get what you were saying, you can set up this device and have full control like a access key
