Alprazolam (Xanax): What You Need To Know

Alprazolam is a common benzodiazepine in medical settings that is also taken for recreational purposes. It's normally used for anxiety and panic disorder, though it has antidepressant properties.
The drug's recreational effects include anxiolysis, disinhibition, and euphoria.
It was the top benzodiazepine in the US within a few years of its introduction. The substance has remained one of the most common psychoactive medicines.

The Drug Classroom (TDC) is dedicated to providing the type of drug education everyone should have. Drugs are never going to leave our society and there has never been a society free from drugs.
Therefore, it only makes sense to provide real education free from propaganda.
TDC doesn't advocate drug use. Rather, we operate with the intention of reducing the harm some substances can bring.

Shit's rough man. I wish I wasn't a dumbass back when I was a teenager with daily panic attacks. I abused the hell out them, and paid big for it. I smartened up later, especially when I finally realized I didn't even like the way they made me feel lol. I literally just took small amounts of Klonopin for a few days after not touching benzos in almost a decade. They're a last resort for me, but you're absolutely right, there's nothing else that even comes close to fighting away that anxiety. Just knowing I have some if I need it is enough 99% of the time.

@@DoctorCreepy13 yeah, they love not helping at all these days lol. It pisses me off, because I honestly don't give a shit if something is addictive or potentially harmful, you should be able to get it if you feel you need it. Something being addictive doesn't mean much when you're feeling like you're literally about to die constantly for weeks, months, or even years at a time. It seems much more harmful to not take the risk of becoming dependent. Personally, Gabapentin or Lyrica both work very well for controlling my anxiety on a more permanent basis, and it's much easier to get. Well, Gabapentin anyways lol Lyrica is bitch to get for anxiety in America. You could look into it though, I'm not making any promises, I think only like 15% of people get the effects that I get from it, but it'll be worth it if it does work.

It amazes me that we humans are so affected by molecules acting upon receptors in our bodies. We are walking and talking combinations of chemicals and molecules that are acted upon or interact with other molecules or chemicals, endogenous or exogenous, that alter our perception of reality... We are a series of sensors and receptors... And that's fine by me.... Thanks again, Seth, for making KZread so valuable.

About 25 years ago, got hooked on Vicodin. Went to rehab, detox etc. Was on .25mg of Xanax once a day for about 20 years. Never abused it. Went through a divorce, started taking about 2 to 3mg per day. Coming off of Xanax was an absolute nightmare compared to Vicodin. Hallucinations, and thought I was losing my mind. Was then detoxed and weened off under a doctors care. Scared the living hell out of me. Never again for this guy.

Benzos have saved my life. I suffer from severe panic disorder and have used these drugs for almost 9 years now. I would not be here anymore if it wasn't for this little pill. Lately I have been going through a lot of problems with doctors wanting to prescribe my meds. In 2012 I had a bad car accident because my old primary doctor took me off klonopin from one day to the other and i seized while driving. I am one of the few who never found any euphoria in benzodiazepines and was very sceptic at first. As time went one my body got use to the impairing effects and I reduce my dose when I don't need it. I am currently taking Valium but really want to go back on klonopin. Xanax is either not helping me with anxiety or it knocks me off my feet ice cold, so I stay far away from this medicine. I love your videos btw.

I prefer Valium (Diazepam) over Xanax (Alprazolam) both in recreational settings, and as a drug for both anxiety and panic attacks, only that xanax is better for panic attacks due to its starting to work within 20 minutes instead of one hour with Valium. (This is my personal experience, and your may be very unfamiliar)

I have been presbribed both Alprazolam (1mg /4xday) & Hydrocodone (10mg/6xday) since 2007. My doctor & pharmacist shows no concerns of abuse or it having terrible effects on me) I have had seizures since 2007. I have been unable to go without a seizure for a whole year. The states best neurologist told me that I will be on these medications the rest of my life. I have refused "uppering my dosage" because of videos like this and just because I have not "misused" my medication the team of doctors see no problem and like I said, multiple want to increase it. My husband and I had our son March 2007. It was May 2007 that I began these medications. Over the next 10 years my husband and I suffered from FIVE MISCARRIAGES (one being a set of twins) in August 2016 we conceived our precious daughter & in May 2017 she was born, because of all the medications I take our daughter spent 39 days in the NICU & during my whole pregnancy we were under the care biweekly of a gynecologist from the "High Risk Pregnancy Unit" I was NEVER warned by daughter would have to "withdrawal" & be in the NICU for 39 days where I never once left her side--sleeping in a chair and later being moved to a room bigger than a small public bathroom. My husband couldnt even be in the hospital room without crying or becoming outraged with the staff for telling us it was completely safe. With every ounce of faith in me, I would tell my baby girl daily, "you are a fighter! We are going home to Daddy & your older brother and we will get through this together! Mommy will never give up and I will fight for you when you cant" Our daughter is completely fine and even ranged at 5months in the 12month bracket of motor skills and communication" I tried on my own getting off the medication because I felt NOTHING BUT GUILT....that it was MY FAULT. Whenever that happened, I had 3 seizures in a 24 hr period leaving me with 40% chance of mental retardation. I knew then and there that the research was right, as bad as I wanted it, I just couldnt "stop". I thought that act was doing good for my kids. But im fact, in was selfish because I could have died...leaving them motherless. After that incident, 2 neurologists, my family doctor & a team of 3 more doctors I never saw explained to me I will ALWAYS be on these medications. It has caused a HUGE wall in my marriage because my husband doesnt believe in prescription medications and even more so after our daughter being in the NICU. He wont even begin to listen to any facta, reason or logic--he only has pure hatred for pharmaceutical drugs.

I started getting panic attacks on a daily basis about a year ago. And I know how addictive these drugs can be that’s why at first I declined to ever take them until things got worse. I couldn’t work much my body felt as stiff as a stone. So I said ok I’ll try but I want to take as little as possible. So that’s what I do, I do have to take it daily but I don’t want to take too much to the point to where I’m taking a very high dose. I Wish this wasn’t the case. I’ve been fighting having to take this stuff but 5 trips to ER in less than a year I can’t afford to increase my bills as they already are. I’d suggest anyone that is prescribed this be very careful with how much you take if you can get by with taking less I’d suggest it. It is very effective in my situation. I’ve tried other benzos like k-pin but it just made me feel depressed after a couple weeks on it and that’s one side I never want to feel. Also because these benzos can make you very lazy I asked psychiatrist to put me back on Vyvanse for my adhd to help me get things done and I will say an amphetimine and a Benzo works very well together. Cause I can get things done and I’m relaxed as well. Just don’t take them at the same time and be careful with doses

My first weeks on Xanax I had really bad mood swings. I would started crying without feelings sad I just couldn’t stop crying. It’s prescribed for anxiety but it gave me anxiety attacks and I rarely get them. Then 10 min later I’ll be back to normal like nothing happend and it wouldn’t even look like I was crying because usually when I cry hard you can tell even the next day but my eyes and face was back to normal like nothing. After the first two weeks it got to the point where I couldn’t sleep without it and now when I don’t take it before sleeping I either break night, wake up in the middle of the night a lot, or have sleep paralysis. I tried to get off of it because I didn’t want to depend on it for sleeping but then I started to get withdrawal symptoms and it’s soo painful. My tounge taste buds literally felt like they were stabbing my mouth and I would feel so awful that I couldn’t concentrate on school. I know it sounds crazy but it’s true.😕

And I want to stop taking them. Any good advice. The doctor told me I had a chemical imbalance but I believe it was a combination of my ferretin being a 5 and going through premenopaus that was causing me to have mood swings like crying every day , feeling scared, insomnia, panic attacks , depression and anxiety. I couldn't eat after not seeking help for 3 weeks I went to the hospital and the doctor gave me hydroxyzine 50hcl and I calmed down and was able to eat and taste the food.

Hi on xanax here. A little bit of advice. Dont "cold turkey" or stopping the drug immediately if you dont want to continue the treatment. Taper it slowly and gradually overtime. It is very slow process. And might be up to a year. So be very patient. Im truly glad there is another patient that can benefit from this drug. This drug is infamous and have bad reputation. Im truly sad when a legit medical patient need it, it came with massive stigma along with it. Another small tip. If you tapering, try get L-Theanine on iherb.com. OTC for anti anxiety. If you prefer organic, you can try green tea. Same ingredient just not without caffeine. So it is good for sleep.

6mgs a day??? That's not healthy... it effects you without you even knowing. You mispelled a couple words by the way. Try meditation and who cares what people think. Chances are, it's all in your head anyways. I'd suggest tapering down to 2 to 3 mg daily. Just be honest opinion.

Can you do one on lorazepam please. The Benzos are particularly dangerous. The withdrawals are beyond anything ever heard of in withdrawals from any types of drugs.

Try high dose Oxycodone withdrawals then, they are to me at least far worse than Xanax or Valium which, so far I have no withdrawals from after years of use.

Honestly I only ever see Xanax being helpful in rare episodic cases of panic attacks. Only ever taken it twice in my life but that was only during the times where I couldn't easily bring myself out of a panic attack due to generalized anxiety causing my thoughts to loop. One low-dose SSRI and repeat behavioral therapy are much better alternatives by far.

I was prescribed Xanax for over ten years with a daily dose of 8mgs for the last five. I was forced into abrupt cessation by my physician which resulted in dozens of gran mal seizures and psychosis. I had a stroke during my seizure and have lost much of my ability to speak and coordination. I was over prescribed obviously and then not even offered a taper. The recovery village refused me for insurance purposes because I was taking them as prescribed. I have anterograde amnesia for most of the last decade. A cautionary tale for everyone. God bless.

WOW! THANK YOU for this extremely informative video! My Pain Management doctor recently gave me Xanax 0.5 mg to take six times a day for muscle spasms and anxiety that comes along with my pain. I'm a chronic pain patient and use it mainly for physical relief of my scrotal pain/spasms. Other muscle relaxants just didn't work. This medication is great for chronic pain patients, too. This is the best and most detailed video I've seen on Xanax. I subscribed. Thanks!

I was addicted to all manner of benzos for 6 years, where anything was fair game, even rohypnol. I'd still say, milligram for milligram, nothing hits quite like alprazolam. It's the heroin of the benzo world.

Most of the bars you come across that you weren't prescribed are not made by a pharmaceutical company. Alprazolam is mas produced in China and is then sent to the US/Canada where pill pushers press their own pills, often with various doses, even though they'll still say "2" on them. Some contain up to 4mg! Be very careful with this stuff if you choose to take it! The people pressing these pills often don't really know what they're doing, and are not nearly as careful with the dosing of the pills as pharmaceutical companies, meaning 3 pills from the same source could contain 1.8, 2.2, and 2.5mg! I had a friend who loved bars, and would take quite a few at a time, but when he got some from a different dealer and took his normal amount, he OD'd. Also, these pills are most likely either cut with other substances, or contain something else entirely. There was a case when someone was pushing bars that he put fentanyl in, causing multiple deaths. Stay safe, people!

I don't like the name brand xanax bars they take too long to kick in and is delayed release. I was impatient on 1 bar to kick in then I popped another and blacked out.

Matt Joss can't overdose on xanax, the lethal dose is over 2000mg, a bar is two mg. Your gf xanax was probably cut with an opioid or wasn't even a benzo at all.

starving kid from africa gg249 bars are some of the most faked bars, meaning they're usually diluted alprazolam powder from India or china, then pressed into weak pills in the us by street dealers. The real pharmaceutical ones such as s904 are the hardest to fake, I never got dealer pressed s904 green bars, they were always the real pharmaceutical ones
