Alpinestars Toucan GTX boot review 70,000 Miles Later...are they the "Best Motorcycle Boots" Ever?

Alpinestars Toucan GTX Boots Review after 70,000 miles." "Best Motorcycle Boots ever"
I have to say that since my initial purchase of these Alpinestars Toucan GTX boots, they are hands down the best all purpose riding boots ever. These boots give you the protection you need whilst being water proof. From snow, rain, to 100º temps they have been outstanding.
I have to say that they have lasted longer than I would have ever thought of with minimal wear and tear.

thanks for the review, i have trouble finding any footwear wide enough to be comfy, and dont like having to buy sizes larger just so i dont feel cramped, so am going to check these out, and even though a tad more expensive than i would like, if they do the job i'll be more than happy to pay it as they look like they will last for many years. I cant say enough about them. I am still riding mine and getting closer to 77600 miles on them now. They are still water proof believe it or not. I use my old ones now for just commuting to work and around town and the new ones I bought 2 months ago and have not broke them in yet. The soul is finally loosing some stitching and stuff but my new ones are so nice i dont want to dirty them up right now lol

@@RockyMountainMotoAdventures thanks for the reply, and may i ask you if you think these are suitable for just regular road rides and tours?, i'm a bit fair weather & usually ride 80-250 miles in the day, so do or do you think they are a bit overkill, or a good long term investment? as i dont commute every day, and as yet have no plans for any serious off-road, but sizing & comfort are my main priorities as safety is a given. btw ive ridden 10000 miles in the last 15 months. thanks

I think for the protection and what the boot offers, I think this would be a great boot for a long term investment for sure. From the sound of it this could be the last pair of boots that you buy based on how much you ride. @@Bob-ts2tu

Actually I have a bit more than 70K miles clocked on these boots. Bought them back in 2017 and I've used them for daily commuting to work to all my tours. These have actually been the longest lasting boots I've ever owned and still are water proof. Now the stitching around the toe box has finally started to come loose, some of the material from all the rubbing of buckling them on and off are showing but overall still water proof. The other thing they have only been submerged in a river almost waist deep when trying to help a friend cross after getting stuck but they dried out nicely and never give off any orders. Very impressed.

Hi. A superb and to the point review - remarkable that it’s still going on at 70k! You mentioned there are vents on the sides for airflow. Do they let water seep through in?

So I finally received my replacement pair and they are just as comfortable as the old ones. But a little stiffer cause there are new. These boots are totally waterproof still after all the miles on them. I also use them as my now daily commuting boot to work etc. You will be more than happy with them if you purchase them.

The Gortex membrane would keep the water out. The vents would allow moisture/water vapor to escape as Gortex is breathable and allows that to happen

Superb to the point review. Short and crisp. Thanks. I use a tech7 on my Africa Twin for my off-road rides but they are an overkill on tarmac and broken tarmac rides. Would you say these are the perfect bridge between a touring boot like the Forma ADV (very little protection) and the Tech7?

I totally think the toucans are an amazing boot giving you the most between a touring boot and a off road boot. I have more mx boots and i do love them but they are not for my everyday commute to work or getting out and playing around on the bigger adv bikes. When I take out the smaller lighter bikes i do wear my mx boots more. I also love that these toucans are still water proof after all this time. Honestly for the money they are well worth it for me.

Great review, thank you! I am painfully trying to choose between the Toucan and the Tech 7 Drystar. No one seems to carry them in stock for a side by side comparison. My use for the boot will be both long distance touring and off pavement/BDR/moto-camping on a 1250 GS. Have you tried or are you familiar with the Tech 7? If so, is there a big difference in lateral protection (should the bike come to rest on your leg in a fall) between the two boots? I guess what my question comes down to is, are you confident in the level of protection the Toucan provides or would you consider sacrificing some comfort by going to the Tech 7 for more technical off pavement riding while on a touring trip? ...is the added protection beneficial enough to sacrifice comfort? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hey Hey so first off I would think about really what type of rider you are and what kind of riding you do and how much of that you do. I would do exactly what I did. I bought on Amazon the Toucans and the Tech 7s. I did make sure I could return them before purchasing. Now I have been using the Tech 10s since 2003 and every 5 years i will get the new pair of Tech 10s. I get those because they offer the best in protection. I will say they suck as an ADV boot. So the Tech 7s are great and are primarily a off road enduro boot. biggest difference is that the boot is taller than the toucan so if you have riding pants like me where the Tech 7 gets in the way of those in the pant pads are a pain. So with Tech 7s I wear a more traditional motorcross pant with knee guards. I wear this set up for desert riding and more harder riding enduro. The Toucan is a lower boot. its water proof. its faster to get in and out of them. This is what i love about them. Ive been riding to work still even as its Dec and my feet are warm and dry. easier to walk in than a tech 7. The Toucan I take on all my BDR rides each year. I do the Colorado one in sections each year and never have an issue. I honestly think you cant go wrong with them and I have no peg to lever placement with those boots on any of my GS bikes as well when I go playing around with my wife on our Kawasaki's. Now if you like to ride fast, take jumps, push yourself to the extreme on smaller bikes but it sounds like you ride your 1250 mainly so i think your good to go. Dont hold me to anything but accidents happen so no matter what boot you choose nothing is for certain. If you you want to ask me anything about any products you can message me on FB facebook.com/rockymountainmotoadventures

Hello! yes you can wear these boots with im sure majority of motorcycle pants without any issues. I have various BMW riding pants as well as Klim pants. All work fine and even the knee pads inside the riding pants do not give any issues as to the position they sit on your knee. I occasionally will put on a pair of MX pants with knee guards and have not issues with the boots. They are not as high up the shin as an MX boot. I hole heartedly believe you will love the fit an feel with the boot with any pants you own. If you are wearing jeans well I can not attest to that as I never worn jeans or just pants itself when riding. I take that back maybe back in the 80s and early 90s lol

They are great boots. The Corozal is the cheaper version of these and even those are amazing boots. Only difference is slightly less protection on the Corozal, and a narrower toe box. Can't go wrong with either, I'd say if you have a wider foot then get the Toucan.

I'm buying my first motorcycle soon and I'm looking for appropriate motorcycle gear. Would you recommend those for a sport bike and almost exclusively road riding? I'd assume they give a lot more protection over standard sport boots which is what I'm looking for mostly. I'd prefer to have more protection rather than a bit more comfort, but I'm afraid they might be too hot for the summer. Any recommendations?

Thanks for reaching out. I would love to recommend you some riding boots for sport bike riding, however I am afraid my knowledge on the ends and outs of that style of riding is very limited. Honestly I would suggest going to a multi brand dealer that would by chance hold a large selection if riding gear. This way you can try on various brands at various price ranges that would fit you budget and needs. Maybe join some sport riding facebook groups and reach out to those to see what advice they recommend.

Hey Hey! Yes I can for sure say they are wider in the toe box than the Sidi Adv is. I also like the fact that they are not as high up the towards the knee as they are as well. So no matter what riding pants you are wearing that has built in knee pads will fit just fine over the boot.
