Great vid Jon! Ordering ones for wife's 2013 4runner 👍 BTW the cutoff lines on projector headlights supposed to look how they did when you installed them (lower on driver side to minimize blinding oncoming traffic, also each assembly projection tilted lower on left to minimize blinding oncoming traffic). My 2019 RAV4 hybrid XSE with factory projector LEDs came exactly how yours looked on install without adjusting 👍

Decided to get the morimotos with the amber drl with the Labor Day sale. Got free pair of morimoto fog lights with the headlights and also ordered the morimoto taillights with the Labor Day sale. These lights are absolutely amazing and way better and brighter than the alpharex novas which is their top of the line model. The drls on the morimotos really stand out and pop. The alpharex drls are weak and in the daytime under the sun you can’t even tell they are on. Def Better than stock tho but if you can get the morimotos on sale I totally recommend.

I bought these back in November. I tried to give these a chance, but they really have an awful beam pattern. They look amazing on the 4R, but the cutoff is distracting and pretty bad actually. if you want blacked out lights you might be happy with them. I'm very disappointed that I trusted a few reviews of these lights. My fault.

So I may have missed this tip, but my DRL are still on OEM style with the Luxx installed and harness set up... I’ve tried troubleshooting for 45 mins and can’t figure it out. Any idea? I’ve got the fuse tap, yellow wire plugged and all wires crimped. Not sure why it’s not doing the LED strip during the day, or LED strip on DRL mode?! Might buy a new harness? Tried reaching out to AlphaRex haven’t heard back yet.

I have the hid in my stock housing and I'm afraid these won't be bright as that. 200$ for quality hid kit vs 700$ for these.... 😬

Hey TRD Jon, I purchased and had these lights installed on my 2017 4runner. After about 6 months, both headlights developed a break inside each bulb. The fine black line where the light stops reflecting developed openings. Causing the lights to shine right into the vehicle in front of me when I drive. I am now going back and forth with Alpharex trying to get them to stand by their product. They're making me jump through hoops (pictures... 2 sets) and no response still. This company has a terrible customer service system. I spent a lot of money for this product and Alpharex has a terrible problem trying to keep their customers happy. Maybe they're good with you but people need to be aware! Over $500 for a set of lights that burned up in 5-6 months! And no correction to the problem!

Hey Jon, Thanks for the video! It made the install a piece of cake. Thought it would be harder then it was. I did notice my high beams flickering when left on for a bit. Have you noticed this on yours?

They should have a relay box. If not hit them up and they should send it to you.

I was looking at these how good they shine down the road with LEDs. I know sometimes videos make it look better then what it is.

The lights look great! I'm personally not a fan of the DRL/sequential eyebrows, but they're good looking headlights. Does make me glad that I did my own retro though

Nice lights. But dang, it's a real bummer when it comes time to change a burned out low beam bulb. How long do you estimate time wise to take off the bumper & light assembly to change out that burned out low beam and then reinstall everything? I don't recall you telling us in the video how much time you have in this mod.

I really like those aftermarket lights, but just the thought of removing all the front just to replace a 💡.

Can the side marker lights (switchbacks) be accessed from inside the wheel well? I have one of my switchbacks that is not turning orange causing hyper flashing. (the switchback just stays white)

I recently upgraded to these and there is a huge dark spot in the headlight beam on the driver's side lowbeam. I've adjusted them, but the shadow persists. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Got to wait till Christmas to get these!

yes you can. Just like the OEM housing. Just be like 25' from a wall and adjust them to line them up with the rotory knob.

Major help. I was torn between Aplha and Anzo and this was the deal breaker. Definitely going with alpha. Doing this on my early 5th gen and removing the grille completely. Awesome review. And I’ve heard a few people say they are having issues with the morimotos. Light flicker. Sequence not matching. Water. Just food for thought.

I think your 2021 has a different wire harness. But alpharex I believe has updated lights for that.

Can you wire up the DRL positive/ground to an auxiliary fuse box instead of right onto the battery? I hate wires coming up the main battery. Makes the engine bay look messy. Any plans to do an auxiliary fuse box setup on your rig?

Hey Jon thanks for the tutorial. Really helped convince me to buy these lights. I do have one question though. You show that in DRL mode the turn signal lights are on as well. I bought the same LED switchbacks but mine don’t light up in DRL mode. I even reached out to Alpharex about this and they confirmed the side lights don’t come on in DRL mode? Can you provide any clarification? Thanks!

The Pros do not do the activation light “show” when you unlock or first turn them on. Only the Luxx and Nova series have that feature.

Now can you make a video on the differences between the nova, luxe, and pro ?

No worries. The features essentially stay but just have to do the lights yourself.

Jon, how are the lights holding up? Do the AlphaRex LED headlights provide enough side lighting to make turns down dark streets with the foglight off? I've heard that the 4 Runner Morimoto LED headlights have a really bad side cut out that require you to have your fog lights on to provide enough side lighting to make sharp turns.

What about the DRLs...can you turn those off. Not sure about earlier models, but my 2020, I switch off the DRLS while the truck is still running. Great for stealth mode if in a campsite at night and leaving engine running for whatever reason.

Yea when I shut them off the light stays on for like 10 seconds and then it is completely dark

Sorry I know this is a old video but do you remember how you handled needing to tap the fuse for both the raptor and DRL and the original fuse?

Just to be clear, the headlights are user serviceable? I see on their website that they use Alpharex's LED "chips". I know that the Morimotos are sealed units and the chips can go bad, requiring factory servicing. Are these actual LED bulbs that can be replaced or what?

Yea you have to take off that upper valance. But i'd snip the wires and then do quick disconnect wires.

Any hyper flashing? What lights did you replace for the low and high beams as those aren’t halogen that came with it, correct?

So this is the luxx series, it comes with built in lights from Alpharex. Their pro series you have to supply you own lights. ZERO hyper flash and I had them on for a good while while recording too

They do have a 450$ ish option. But yes still more expensive than $100 for like 2 pairs of led or HID.

Yes! I just bought some and thought the same exact thing. They are very bright during evening/night but on a sunny day, the DRL and sequential turn signal are hardly even visible. Wish I would've known this prior to purchase.

I am looking to upgrade my 4 runner headlights but torn with which one to get. I heard luxx have built in leds but cant change them and pro has built in halogens but can change them to leds. Mark David Casino I got the Luxx series. The Luxx series already comes with LED low and high beams. They are very bright at night and offer great visibility. My only complaint is that the DRL and sequential turn signal get washed out on a sunny day. Personally, I feel like the poor turn signal visibility on a bright day is a safety hazard for other drivers.

Loves mine. Had them less than a year and the driver side turn signal started to hyper flash. Has anyone else ran into this problem? I doubt it’s the bulb burning out since they are still fairly new .

Any resolution to this for you? Mine are hyper flashing upon install but I added the same led switchbacks that TRD Jon referenced and I think that’s part of my problem.

How does current draw of this setup compare to stock; does the stock alternator and battery require upgrading with this headlamp system and your light bars? Also, how well is temperature controlled; any concern with the light housing overheating?

I don't have a concern with it. And I feel the draw would be less than stock since LED has less draw than Halogen.

Would you recommend getting the cheaper line and replacing the lows and highs with LED bulbs or go for the LUXX ones and having the LED's already in the housing?

Are these the LUXX G2 or non G2 ones, how long have you had them and any issues? While doing research on these I read that they were not that good and some were getting dimmer after a year. Trying to see if they are worth upgrading from stock ones. Thanks.

Hello Jon..I have this Morimoto XB on my 4runner and im not satisfied with it... somehow it doesn't give me a streak of beam towards the road just like any other light or bulb would do...even my stock halogens create a beam where you can see where the beam is pointing at..i cant really explain it but I hope you understand me...I want to return this or maybe sell it at a loss...my writing to you is about your stock housing ...what are the bulbs that you installed on youir stock housing...seems youre good with it...I would like to use my stock housing again if somebody like you can recommend what bulb brand and spec to use for the low and high..Thank you ..hoping for a reply from you..

Hey Jon I’ve had these headlights in for 2 years now with the LASFIT Switchback blinkers too and my right side blinker started hyper flashing recently, I was just wondering if it’s easy to access the blinkers without taking off my bumper completely

Hey Jon I just installed the luxx on my car with the lasfit switchback led just like you The problem is when I turn on signals, both left and right, the switchback stay white and the drl flashing fast but they work perfectly when the hazard on What could be the problem?

I forget off the top of my head. It's above the 7.5 amp and below and 10 amp

I've already had issues with my set. Both HIDs they provided went out like 3 weeks in with little use. They sent me another set and then the drivers side went out when I closed the hood. Opened the hood back up and it turned back on. Closed it again and hasn't given me an issue since. Maybe I got a bad set but I guess they look good 🥴

Jon, newbie here Love the vids they have helped quite a bit. Have a 13 limited and am in a toss up on the Alpha pro or Luxx. With the Pro did you swap out both highs and lows with LED? if so use the same bulb? also did you swap out the amber side and turn? if so I assume it was a Lasfit what bulb was used? Hello, I see you connected the largest cables but it doesn’t show where. I’ve been trying to fix mine the right one blinks faster than normal and I don’t even know how to do the set up for the lights either. Most important part where is the brown cable and where do you connect those large black ones

I'd get with the company. Sounds like your missing some wires.

Those are hot AF...def on the MOD list. 👍

Jon I connected mine , but for some reason my drivers side blinks really fast when I signal while my passengers light is just fine

Bad resister probably somewhere. Their customer service has been amazing to me. Definitely reach out.
