Alone On Karon Beach In Thailand 2021

Ever had a 5km long beach in Thailand all to yourself? Complete paradise in a very surreal sort of circumstance. Thailand and specifically Phuket, is still reeling from the huge drop in tourism during covid. The majority of hospitality and tourism businesses have sadly been forced to shut down as you will see in my walking tour of the Karon and Kata area. Thailand is trying very hard right now to keep cases low, so to be able to open certain parts of the country to vaccinated travellers by July 1st. It's hard to say what will happen, but once it is safer and easier for people to travel, I hope you will consider putting Phuket on your must see list because it is still a phenomenal place to visit! I stayed at the beautiful Beyond Resort on Karon Beach (not sponsored) and would highly recommend their hotel! xx

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): safetywing.com?referenceID=alinamcleod&Ambassador
I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.

Well, Alina starts off with I'm literally speechless, and then for five minutes proceeds to rave about her room, hotel and beach and pool immediately outside of her room and then tells about hell of a deal she scored for this accommodation. She then tours the gorgeous beach area's and basically abandon town. It's sad to think of all the people trying to survive till business's can reopen, but she definitely makes the best of the situation. Thailand and Phuket are showcased very positively by this upbeat traveler. Continue to enjoy your exploring, and thanks for taking us on tour with you.

The island was and still is covered in rubbish. I did a massive clean of the beach in front of Beyond Resort when I was there, but it's still a mess and your average dumbass tourist doesn't help at all. I hate tourists and hope Thailand never goes back to 40 million of them trashing the environment TBH (but they will and the whole place will be like Koh Phi Phi Le in about 10 years 😤)

*_Karon Beach in Phuket is one of the longest beaches on the island, spanning 5 km of fine white sand overlooking the Andaman Sea. The northern end of the beach is usually deserted, making it an excellent spot for those who want the beach to themselves. The southern end, close to Kata, tends to be busier but it isn't that hard to find a nice spot for yourself._*

Union Mall just shutdown. Things getting worse now, even the big mall like that are dying. The Government is at fault for slow vaccination process and the people are afraid of vaccinating because the main vaccine they imported is Sinovac. People are criticizing the obvious that they're China's lapdog. Many wants Pfizer, but. Prayuth never care what the people want only what he wants, so he'll continues to import China's death vaccines.

@@jomontanee >Pfizer is quite risky What? This is objectively not true. Pfizer is the best c0vid vaccine on the planet. I had the options of Pfizer, Moderna, Oxford-AZ, and J&J, and I specifically chose Pfizer. SinoVac is complete garbage...its efficacy varies wildly between specific variants (was only ~35% efficacy vs. c0vid in Brazilian health workers, 50% efficacy for symptomatic c0vid and only 20% efficacy for asymptomatic infection, compared to 90%+ for both for Pfizer), and it's not even approved by the WHO. There's a reason China is shipping most of the SinoVac overseas whilst keeping a lot of the SinoPharm for itself. Can you figure out why? I'd only get SinoPharm if there's nothing else (non-Chinese) available. If all there was was SinoVac, I'd honestly not get it. SinoVac is so shitty that even 100% vaccination rates with SinoVac wouldn't be enough to ensure herd immunity, lol. That's before we even account for potential health effects (which are unknown because China never even bothered to do Phase 3 trials or release trial data to the public).

Glad we got the slow pan of the sunset later on in the video! Good footage of the menus = long enough for your audience to hit pause so they can read the offerings. Since tourism is so down, maybe you can have the desk staff at your resort reach out to find you a day charter boat for a cruise to the scenic sea sights? You could launch a drone from the boat to elevation to pan the coasts, beaches, scenery, etc. Could be a smorgasbord of eye candy for the vlog!!!

After living in Thailand for 6 years, it is a shock going to or watching videos from places I've been and it is totally deserted. Still, I cannot think of anywhere I would have preferred to be during the pandemic. Although tourists are to Thailand as oil is to an engine, I confess I don't miss the tourists who believe screaming at 3 AM in the street is an art form. I know a bit about Canada. I used to work for traveling concert tours and have done shows in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa,....et j'ai va aux Montreal et Quebec City,...Moncton, Halifax and Sydney. When you're in the water alone be careful of the undertow. We used to spend summers at the Jersey Shore. One day a kid, bigger than me, got sucked into the undertow and he was pulled out to sea. It took several lifeguards and a few rafts to get him back to shore. Those waters can be strong.....esp if there's no one around to help. So pls be careful.

The Andaman Sea is pretty shallow, usually 15 feet is as deep as it gets according to a Thai boatsman who was taking us out to Hong Island. The Jersey shore gets deeper quicker and since a rip tide is when a wave rushes over water going back out to sea, depth matters. I worked as a lifeguard on the stretch of ocean between Cherry Point, SC to south of Myrtle Beach. There was a point where several hundred square miles of swamps and bogs drained into the ocean at low tide and it drained through a narrow channel. The undertow was extreme! If you ever get caught in the undertow, do not panic, it will turn you loose as the current meets the ocean.

@@AlinaMcleod Phuket is known for having strong undertow. As long as you’re careful, and you’re not alone on the beach. That being said, I’ve always enjoyed swimming at Karon beach. I was there just before Covid hit globally. Thanks for sharing your experience. $50 USD a night in a premium hotel is a steal. I once had something similar about 15 years ago on my first trip to Kata Beach, just south of Karon Beach. Lucky you! Glad you could enjoy it!

Alina, you are a joy and an inspiration. How you got your act together at such a young age is impressive. Somewhere along the way I got on the wrong bus, and it has been a struggle to get back on the right route. Anyone who complains about your travel during these covid times should put a sock in it. U R the best. Keep the good karma flowing.

I went to Phuket twice, returned for 3 weeks in 2018 and explored almost every street, beach and even some villages in the outskirts on rented motorbike. A real touristy place, scenic, lots of great food, bustling and wonderful ! Seeing Phuket now so bare (even Walking Street) makes my heart cringe. Thailand will bounce back !

Be careful walking around at night by yourself like when you said you went to get some groceries, you’re a young pretty girl walking around a deserted area and remember there are a lot of locals there who aren’t making much money at the moment.
