Almost Like Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce:
******************************
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups ketchup, preferably organic
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup pineapple juice (or you can sub apple cider vinegar)
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon worchestire sauce
2 1/2 teaspoons ground mustard
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (use less if you don't like the heat)
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons liquid smoke
1/8 cold water mixed with 1 tablespoon corn starch (optional)
Instructions
Combine all the ingredients except the water and corn starch mixture in a medium size sauce pot. Bring to a boil and reduce and simmer for five minutes or until all the sugar has dissolved. If you like a thicker BBQ Sauce add the water and corn starch mixture. TASTE!!!! Adjust spices where needed. Simmer until desired thickness is reached, but watch closely. It thickens really fast! Serve immediately or cover and store in fridge.
I stored mine in a large Mason jar. The boys LOVED it!!!!

Heather, I watched this video again a couple of days ago and found that I was running low on my store bought sauce. Since I was hosting a dinner the following day for 16 people, I thought it best to try this recipe since I was going to be serving pulled pork sandwiches. It was late but I wound up making the 5-1/2 pints and canned it that evening. It was a real hit with my guests and my husband and I love it. Thanks, so much, for sharing this with us. 💝
I spray my measuring cups with Pam. It makes everything just slide right out!
Looks great! Many healing prayers for you and your family 🙏🙏🌻🌻❤️
Thank you for your ideas. They will help me create my own sauce.
This is a fantastic recipe! I made it on a whim this evening and so glad I decided to go to the work of pulling out the ol' Presto. I borrowed Noreen's idea, using pineapple juice. Since the can didn't quite measure out enough (I may have taken a little swig...) I add apple cider vinegar to make the full amount. A real keeper. Not too sweet, not too sour, some kick but not too much. Thank you!
I just now made this sauce. Just to try it out. Man!!!!! This is so good. I will be making this from now on. Thank you for the recipe.

I can't wait to try this
Heather, I just had to hwartch this again! We love SBR original!
Made this today and it was a HIT out of the ball park with my husband!!!! He isn't crazy about BBQ but he LOVES this. I did leave the salt out and added some onion powder. Now my question is, when I go to can some of this, will I need to add any salt? LOL cause as soon as he tasted it, he said, "Soon as we get you a pressure cooker, this is being done up!" Thank you to you and I'm sure Noreen also!!!
I love this recipe. My fav baby rays is the Videllia onion sweet baby rays bbq sauce. How would you make that up.?
I added just a little bit of hot sauce and I have to say it's the best sauce ever. Thanks for sharing. I have a friend who makes her own sauce the same way you do. God bless you both

I love sweet baby Ray's too!!! I like your recipe. Hey I have a suggestion for your Cayenne dilemma. Mexican markets and some major super markets have cayenne in small bags for about $1. Its usually in a different isle other than the spice isle. 😎👍

Thank you for your tip on cayenne pepper. If you want to spice something up but not to the degree of cayenne pepper, try some pepper flakes.😊
Oh I can't wait to try this! I will definitely can some up if it works out! I was wondering if you can can this with the corn starch added?
@TheKneadyHomesteader
10 жыл бұрын
i wouldn't, just because of the starch BUT, once you open up your canned jar to use it, when you warm it up you could add it then, if you like it super thick. :D
Hi, I love this sauce, just one question, can you 'can' it? How long do uk think it would last on the shelf? I'm in the UK and this sauce is soooooo good. Thanks so much for posting the receipe.
do you use the liquid smoke? Thanks Teanda
Yummy! I can't wait to try your recipe! I just found out that the Business Center Costco's (you can use a regular membership to get in) sell Grandma's brand Molasses for $12 a Gallon! Need to plan a trip ASAP!
@TheKneadyHomesteader
10 жыл бұрын
yeah, it is so much cheaper to buy it by the gallon! i just made a video on making homemade brown sugar..... you need molasses! :D
I may try this. That's the only brand I'm willing to buy.
How would you can this?
I am praying for you and your family🙏
Oh no! I started rolling my eyes when you mentioned that you make your own brown sugar and then I remembered that because of you I MAKE MY OWN BROWN SUGAR AS WELL! Now people roll their eyes at me. Buying that stuff in the Box is just sooo gauche 🤣🤣🤣

Mmmm.... you are making me hungry. I imagine that the cider vinegar would really help to tenderize the meat you put the BBQ sauce on, especially if you marinade it overnight in a plastic bag. Thanks for making me salivate.

YUM!!!! great idea! :D
I noticed you didn't mention the liquid smoke or use it. Do you normally use it or is that an optional ingredient?
in case you didn't see the response, but chef larry raymond shared this video on his facebook wall with the following: "Hello, I would like to tell you that I enjoyed watching you make your barbecue sauce. It looks very tasty, and you look like you're very comfortable making it. As far as your presentation, if you do it on film I would suggest having all your ingredients measured and ready to pour in more quickly. As far as my barbecue sauce, your has four different ingredients than mine, and is missing a very important ingredient onion salt. I could tell by looking it is obviously a much sweeter, and needs more heat. Chili powder is a bad replacement for red pepper flakes, we use a hot sauce. I also would like to compliment you on your use of pineapple juice. When I first started making mine at home I use that also. Good luck with your barbecue sauce, and tell your son I'm very flattered that he likes mine. The best to you in the future. Sincerely, Chef Larry Raymond. PEACE!!" awesome sauce! ;D

no way! WHERE? do you have a link? HAHAHAHA
Love this recipe, will definitely make this but will omit the cornstarch……..just don’t like the gloopy texture when anything is thickened with cornstarch. 😁🇬🇧
You don't use the liquid smoke that is listed? YOu didn't put it in?
does anyone know how can I turn this into a big batch like I need help with the measurements
@pepsicola5634
4 жыл бұрын
jacob thomas just double every measurement
1 1/4 cups catsup 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup molasis Stir well over medium low heat 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or 1/4 cup pineapple juice, stir 1/4 cup water, stir 1T worshchestersauce 2 1/2 tsp ground mustard, stir 2 tsp smoked paprika 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/4 to 1/2 tsp chili powder or pepper flakes, stir 1 1/2 tsp salt 1tsp black pepper Stir Taste and adjust seasonings if needed Cook stirring Bring to boil Simmer on low 5-10 minutes Pulled bbq chicken sandwiches
This is a family favorite now. The deal is, bring my jar back, & I'll give you another one. 😂 note: I usually use Heinz, but Hunts was on sale so I used it in my last bath. It is not as thick of a sauce as the Heinz- lesson learned!)
Will it work without liquid molasses? What can I substitute?
@KJsGarage

Honey would work as well.
Hi Heather or anybody really, could some one recomend a substitute for the liquid smoke in this receipe. Here in England it is impossible for me to find Liquid Smoke. Thank you so much in advance. Just love yourChannel by the way between you Lindas Pantry and Bev over at Our Half Acres Homestead I have been inspired to learn to can . I made your carrot cake Jam the other month and I already need to make more as the family loved it so much Thank you

I like using chili powder to add some spice, but I can't always use it. If you add enough, you start to taste the cumin and other non-pepper things they put in it (usually just the cumin). That's not always a good thing, so I really like cayenne.
@TheKneadyHomesteader
10 жыл бұрын
my chili spice is just pure chilies..... i buy my cumin separate.... if i buy the combo you are right, cumin always over powers.... which makes my taco seasoning and my chili taste funky. LOL once i can find cayenne in a small jar, that doesn't cost over $5 like at walmart, i will pick some up. LOL i am frugal!
@thethegreenmachine

jakluk4 I didn't know they made chili powder with none of the non-pepper stuff added. If I had that, I wouldn't need cayenne for my stir fry, but I think I'd still have it.

i also sometimes use pepper flakes..... and crush them with a spoon or glass.... i really need one of those mortar/pestle thingies, but i am too cheap. LOL

I used to work in the bakery of a grocery store where all our bread products were frozen and all we did was proof them then bake off. There are next to no grocery bakeries that make anything from mixes even and I am willing to bet less than 1% who bake from scratch. Customers are being deceived if they think their bread is fresh. Was Mason saying Daddy at the end of the vid?
@TheKneadyHomesteader

that is some fantastic insider info, mama! thank you!!!!! yeah, Mason is BIG into calling for Dad now. He screams DA!!!! DA!!!!!!! hahaha especially when we are out shopping and Matt falls behind or goes down another isle. LOL Matt melts every time he hears it. HAHAHAHA its adorable. me, well i am chopped liver. LOL

That is so funny, after a successful not sure what it is, without fail my husband and others ask what's in it, is it a recipe, can you make it again. And, I just know I would not be able to repeat it, when you don't measure and you get a quirky thought to try something different in what you are cooking, you just kind of get lost in the process.
You can buy it at pretty much any store and it's not that expensive. Why go to this trouble?
next time instead of the extra brown sugar try adding some Smucker's grape jelly!
