What do you recommend for me? I'm a pi tor and I only use it to clean cabinets and vacuum the floor and not do so much dust. I know there are many festools extractor like yours
The festool disposable bags do have a sleeve you can use to close the bag before throwing it out. Making sure the dust does not escape. My two pence from the UK
Scott your videos are relaxing, I usually watch them after work, almost as relaxing as Swedwoods vids.Crack on from New Hampshire
Was gonna sleep but some Scott Brown never hurt
“I don’t remember yesterday bro, so no” lol my fave. Cheers.
As a cabinet maker, after getting my Festool ct26 and making all my tools hook up to it, I will never be able to work with out it. I work beside people who don't have dust extraction and it makes you realise how good it really is having dust extraction. Also for the "throwaway" festool bags I made my own version of the lifetime bag clip from two different sizes of water pipe that slide over each other, I cut the bag open empty it and seal it up with my diy clip and I use a bag for around a year before throwing it out.
Getting that warning for not using a vacuum must have Sucked. . . . . . . . I'll let myself out

Hi Scott i use the mini as well. One feature i like is how the bags fill up from the back first and solidly with waste too. Thanks for your great videos. Fred
Another fantastic video Scott , as always really look forward to your posts.I noticed one of the comments below mentioned doing a video on the Makita 36v track saw, im a diy guy and i bought one as i was watching one of your posts about track saws and decided to buy one.i find it to be a fantastic tool , i also bought two 5ah batteries to go with it as i felt the 3ah batteries i had which are the old type and a few years old to be a little under powered , its great to get these reviews from professional tradesmen
Omg I just noticed I wasn’t subscribed to your channel. I’ve been watching you for over a year. I’m a Dutch carpenter and I’m planning to start my own YT channel soon. You’re so inspiring and informative.
"Having it is better than not having it" - inspirational, love it. (Forreal though, we just got the ct36 AC to use with the planex drywall sander, absolutely invaluable)
Well, let me tell you this, as a customer :). I had some cabinetry fitted about three years ago. I only finished painting the room, and fitters came to get my cabinetry sorted. All morning they worked without extraction vacuum. I offered them my small Karcher but they pointed out that they have extraction with them. I thought it is strange not to use extraction, especially as they were cutting Corian worktops but it is their health... However once they left I got massively upset. My freshly painted walls were all covered in the dust. And this was especially visible on my dark navy blue feature wall. It cost me 4 hours of vacuuming walls from the dust plus I gathered it is better not to breath in this shite. Extraction protects you and environment you work in. It is a good idea to use it :).
Last couple of years i worked in a factory making stairs even with powerful extraction on the CNCs you could still see dust in the air, mdf was the worst It started to effect my health so i took redundancy and now have set up a workshop in my garage at home.
I really like that negative-detail wall you made there and the featured one in the bedroom. It's just makes a wall look so much better than just a painted wall.
Great work as always but I would have to say the faster way of making these rebates is just to get the right router bit. You can get 25mm bit with a 12mm bearing on it so that when you run it along an edge it will overcut by 13mm instead of doing a flush cut. Very convenient way of doing this. I use one for doing rebates from time to time.
@scottbrowncarpentry Love how you start each video with your patented, "Scott Brown here" 😁 I've failed miserably trying to imitate it with my American accent. Good stuff though man, huge fan from North Carolina 👊

Scott great video I'm in Canada and as far as I know we don't have the dust extractor law but I will ask some of my contractor friends .. Keep up the great work .. I have the corded compact router by Makita and I love it ..
I added the CT-VA to my Midi and it's fantastic (yes it fits just fine despite their website showing otherwise). I highly recommend it for you guys. It captures like 90% of gypsum, sawdust, you name it, before it hits the bag prolonging your bags significantly.
I’ve got the same festool vac. My chest feels a lot better and lot less cleaning up. I took the small hoover attachment and glued it to the sawdust exhaust port of my hitachi mitre chop saw. Now I’m using the vac on a daily basis. It’s the way forward buddy. Love from wales 🏴
I use the disposable bags for my Festool CT36, but I don't throw them out, I just shake the dust out of the hole. The bags are about $100 Canadian for a 5 pack, so I save several hundred a year.
Finally broke down and ordered one. I cant use this shop vac a second longer. Cheers man!
Job well done Scott !!

Hi Scott, what is the model number of the Festool Vacuum. How does the DeWalt flexvolt vacuum compare? Thanks 👍

I bought the festool cyclone about a year ago and its like a turbo booster and you do not loose any suction. The clear container is a real eye opener as to how much dust is coming out the machines.
@clearcut6818
2 жыл бұрын
The festool cyclone separator decreases suction by 15-50%
Lifes a learning curve. Sometimes it takes a trading officer to bring things to your or anyone's else's attention. Not only for health and safety but will cut down cleaning time once finished each job
Awesome work
What's your thoughts on the dewalt cordless extractor? When is kameron starting a youtube channel?
I got the Festool cyclone trap / pre-filter. (Should work on your model, also on Makita’s vacuum systems with the systainer clamps on top) It’s Festool so it’s arguably overpriced for what it is, but at the same time it saves me money on bags. Especially if you have a lot of router work. You still need to replace the bags once in a while. Not because they are full but because the ultra-fine dust leaves a coating on the inside, clogging up the airflow.
@Boz1211111

I also use small cyclone whenever i can, no matter how big the vacuum you get so much more out of your bags. Thing is mine cyclone is small so i need to empty it all the time, so im looking to buy something. Main issue is i dont know how to connect it and not use too much hoses
To extend the life of your vacuum filter, consider using a cyclone separator between the vacuum and the tool. I've found that it will divert over 95% of any wood dust, and about 90% of drywall dust. "Dust Deputy" makes a version, and Home Depot (US) has a version that fits on a 5 gallon bucket, called the Dustopper. Likely pay for itself in the cost of Festool filter bags alone. Not sure what is available in your area.

Hey @Scott - do you find L Class dust extraction on your Midi is good enough for the work you do in New Zealand? Thanks!
I remember working on building sites in the mid/late 1980s in the UK and back then H&S was just started to be taken seriously due to the 1,000s of people that where getting killed on building sites etc and now day what happened back then would never be allowed today and today sites are a total different experience
I've noticed you tend to have a DeWalt advertisement before a Makita review episode. Well you had a ridged cordless vacuum advertisement before this one. I think someone is paying attention to your channel lol
The plywood walls look great, did you guys cover the exposed edges with any banding or tape?
I don't think I've ever seen dust extraction on a drop saw on a job site, ever. only ever in people's workshops.
How does the festool vacuum go with the bigger tools like table saw and drop saw. I see the input to run tools is about 1200W but most drop saws and table saws are up around 1800-2000W????
66.6k subs... just saying ... Subscribed just to keep you out of purgatory. And for the great content. Really enjoy the tips. Very inspirational. Greetings from the Netherlands.
I've been using M-class HEPA extraction on absolutely everything for years. Such a shame that my DeWalt DWS780 and Makita LS0714 1st and 2nd-fix mitre saws ignore the megabucks vacuums and spew dust out anyway. The only mitre saw I've ever seen which extracts properly is the Kapex, but I tried it and hated it.

Hi Scott huge fan been watching for ages I have one year left in school and am considering carpentry to do after would you recommend
10:02, did you think about having the rabbet overhang the small pieces around the windows/doors?
I’ll got a Makita mlt100 table saw and today after replacing the the brushes the commutator is poked. Is it worth getting it fixed or should I buy and new table saw? It only 2~3 years old. What should be an expected life span of table saw for an weekend warrior wood worker?
I swept a new home under construction, it hadn't been swept since they finished the drywall and the vacuum filter was torn so it just pumped out dust the whole time. I really wished I had wore a mask, I could feel it in my chest the next day. I imagine it will take several months before I get most of that out of my lungs.

Nice job. I just got a Makita guide rail for my router for repeatable grooves/dadoes like fake shiplap. Might get a small cordless Bosch dust extractor and a large cordless starmix batrix (also sold as metabo) class m. Scoring plywood is something I also forgot yesterday. Especially crap ply
you should get one of those rebating bit for you router, kinda like a big flush trim bit but with a small bearing, that way you wont have to setup a rail for every cut

Hey scott Quick question for you, is your vacuum an l class or m class?? I have a vacuum already but its just non big brand. Does the job, i keep it clean but i want a festool with the blue tooth because i use mostly battery, mitre saw track saw etc. Would the l class be alright for this work and cleaning at the end or the m class? Thanks Shane in ireland/cavan

I wondered how long the bags last as the capacity is 15L which isn't a lot? I'd use a bag every few days of work at 15L my existing vacuum is a shop back and its 40L.
How’s the diamondback review coming along? Looking forward to it mate
My Q&A question is what is your favourite tool at the minute and why? Love your vids by the way.
The same thing had happen to me, under the risk of being thrown out of site I had to buy one. A slightly bigger than yours Festool CTM 26, it cost me a lot of money, but I don't regret it one bit..... bigger challenge was to find rubber adapters for every different type of tool....
We just bought at work the first vac. U showed and its expensive as hell and we didn't even buy all the accessories. We only purchased the wall sanding attachment. Its a good vac. It was purchased with covid money my work gets for keeping people working. Otherwise we never would have gotten it and I would be sanding 3 floors of walls.
My q for q and a would be what brought you to sunny Scotland, how long were you here and where other than Edinburgh did you work? Thank you.
Hey Scott, love your videos bud. What kind of camera do you use? Greetings from Georgia, USA!
Damn it’s crazy how different countries have such different building laws & codes. In the states I’ve never heard of that. In 8min through and this is reminding me of some panels we did in a bathroom and library. Mahogany veneer mdf cut with a 1/2 or 3/4 piece added in between each panel painted dark (almost black) it have the perception of similar to the groove you cut. Same depth. We had 2-3 of up doing it. It was tough bc the homeowner wanted every grain to match. So the veneer were all straight grain up/down. It was just a bitch handling those large sheets of mdf and getting the grains “book matched”. PL glue & 15/18g. I was up on the ladder while my coworkers were down below and I turned around and there was a cop standing at the entrance on some ok wrap it up! Iduno how long he was standing there bc we were in the zone! Caught us off guard lol dope vid brother! Looks sick!
I just bought this and after seeing your video multiple times I think it's going to be a great edition. Every feel like you need more capacity?
It seems to me that, except for the inside corners, routing with a fence attached to the bottom of your baseplate would yield faster and more consistent results.
what was the marking gauge you were using to score the sheets
when are you going to drop the SBC Full skate vid part?
Great video! I am relatively new to the channel but truly enjoy the artistic nature of your videos as well as your knowledge. Not sure if you’ve addressed this in other videos, but a possible question for a future episode - How did you get into carpentry and how long did it take until you felt proficient and skilled at your trade? Hi Scott. I am interested in the Festool MIDI vacuum but the shop said the connected tool power outlet on the vacuum was only good for sanders and low wattage tools and would not cater for my 1700W milwaukee dropsaw or my 2000W Dewalt Table saw. He said I would need to get the bigger CT26 Vacuum and also change the switch from 5amps to 10amps. I see you have connected your drop saw to the midi and table saw also. I gather these are high wattage similar to mine. Have you experienced the MIDI tripping out at all with high power tools? Cheers
Hi Scott, if you were to get a bigger van what make would it be and do you think you would ever build your own house?
Was just thinking. Can you please try to compare the hikoki drop saw that’s like the makita one you have?
How would you use the vacuum for gyp dust collection?
Is the flexvolt vacuum corded and cordless? Thanks
Dust extractors are where it's at. I even have a shroud that lets me hand sand with collection. Festool plastic is too delicate for tools of that price, in my opinion. It's my only complaint about the brand, and it's kept me from buying anything of theirs- as great as they work. edit: Not to mention the time my boss told me to just put a bag on the sander, while I was setting up the extractor. It set the fire alarm off, which was tied into their home security system. Good times. Always extract. We don't use any treated timbers in interior construction here in the US (at least in New England). I'm not sure it's a good idea.

@@rgbking488 another option could be the scaled down Festool CT 15. Essentially a midi scaled down in features and minus the Bluetooth option. Only thing with the 15 is that it doesn't come with an antistatic hose and so I'd source one even going with something like a Cen-tec antistatic hose to avoid the 130 USD price tag for a hose.
Here is a question I have had since watching the house extension series way back. New Zealand homes don't seem to have any exterior cladding. That is, here in USA, homes almost always have an intermediate layer of osb or plywood, or more recently specialty weather proofing layers like ZIP on the walls and roof, with the siding or roofing on top of that. Why not in NZ? Thanks.
@N1rOx
2 жыл бұрын
Saves on timber. We don't clad twice. Our engineering (shear as an example) is done usually through our drywall. When we need extra in certain planes of the house, they sometimes spec individual 6mm ply panels that are installed to the outside as you would your osb system. However it is usually to the bracing elements specified length and not the length of the entire wall like you guys do.
Question for the QNA What do you think about asbestos and what’s your experience with it? My dads a site manager and surveyor for asbestos here in New Zealand and has been doing it for 37 years he says it’s not always properly disposed of and the removers miss a lot of it
Scott brown carpentry, love the video and I know its old. Hopefully you or someone can answer my questions...what is the plywood for? Does it get stained or covered? Why you paint the edges black? Does it hide the joints?
